Pilot Emergency! MAY DAY vs PAN PAN call!

The difference between the May Day and the Pan Pan call is that one is used during a life-threatening situation.
Let’s imagine, you take off and you have an engine failure with no fire, is this situation putting the life of the people on-board in danger?
Most probably not, because the Aircraft with 2 engines are certified to fly with one engine, and the Pilots are trained every six months regarding this.
So a Pan Pan call is required, because your situation requires priority and assistance both in flight and on the ground however the life of the people on board is safe.
The scenario is different if shortly after take-off you have an uncontrollable fire, is the life of the people on board in danger? Of course! So, in this case, you want to send a May Day call.
This is because you don’t only need assistance and priority but you are also informing the ATC that the life of the people on board is in danger.
In my opinion, if you are in doubt about whether to send a Pan Pan or a May Day call it is better to send a May Day, or if the Air Traffic Controller is not understanding the situation send a May Day and he/she will immediately understand that you are in an Emergency.
You can always downgrade the call from a May Day to a Pan Pan if the situation gets better.
