VTOL VR has always felt like a midpoint between the arcade nature of Ace Combat and the hardcore simulation of DCS.

That is exactly how I have described it with the guys I fly with in DCS. It is just immersive enough to feel better than AC and DCS in flying but less mentally taxing than DCS. I feel like I can jump into VTOL and compentantly fly any aircraft pretty quickly unlike DCS for me at least.

incredibly, vtol vr actually simulates radar cross section better than dcs, but dcs beats it in other things.

@@amazin7006 no, its a more advanced version of dcs with cartoony graphics and simplified controls. Its chaff and radar are actually modelled like real life, unlike DCS, which just gives a % chance that the radar loses lock(very unrealistic).

Just to help clarify. They plane shown in the game for the majority of the video was the f-18. He did quickly show the f-35 and his buddy was flying one but he was in a 18. That’s why he had a hud instead of the helmet and no touch screens which you mentioned. The game does have a fully operational f-35 B with all of these features and more. Hope this helps

@@Fergus_0703 In Vtol vr its not supposed to be insanely accurate like ie having the stick in the middle. and the devs of the game said that and even said that they put the sticks on the side as its easier to code and its more accommodating for the user.

yes! the fully integrated HMCS, sensor fusion with TSD and added stealth make the F-45 a properly cool representation of 5th gen aircraft especially comparing to the "older" F/A-26 in game.

@@owenmills6923 all planes in vtol have hmd and hud turn on hmcs knob or button (head mounted cuing system) and then pull the visor down (vsr button or trigger while you have your hand up to your head)

@@sakatababa no they don't all have HUD. Some only have a full time HMD visor like the AH-94, F-45A and the EF-24G. They all have a switch to turn it on or off, but the visor doesn't need to be flipped down to use it. The F/A-26B, AV-42C and the T-55 have a dedicated HUD with HMD capability only when it's turned on and visor is flipped down.

Wdym some? Literally all generations of fighter jets can use roads to takeoff and its not just the Swedes that do it but its not often done because not every country has terrain like Sweden

@@gregoryandreevich it's not about terrain, but roads themselves (length, quality, width, risk of foreign object getting into air intake, having enough clear space on sides - no poles, trees/bushes, railing, buildings, etc) and how much ground support aircraft need (for example only airport in Europe suitable for hosting of b-2a spirit is former backup airport for space shuttle in England, due to requirements for communication and radio equipment for instrumental flying). Landing/taking off physically is one thing, operating from that piece of road entirely different one. Sweden sports this capability of operating from improvised runways as part of their tactic since drakens (at least, j-32 and j-29 probably was suitable for it as well) and design aircrafts around it, it's defense against vulnerability of airports to strikes by Russians, it's not related to their topography (which isn't nearly as ideal for it as some of the more flat countries).

DCS only makes official planes for which there is enough data. The F-35 details are heavily classified.

Well no. All of the basics are covered, in great depth might I add, but the f45 is not as indepth as the real deal

@@beanieteamie7435 The *core* is there, The fact it's stealthy but has limits on that stealth, the fact the F45 can VTOL but has limits on what you can carry if you wish to do so, the fact it can fire AAMRAMS without turning it's own RADAR on, etc. But the *really* crunchy stuff like hydraulics systems and whatnot are indeed simplified, as are *why* it can fire it's AAMRAMMS without it's own radar (Datalink is implied but not actually modeled per-se). That's just as true of the F/A-26, AH-94, and new T-55 too. Basics are there and are solid, but the super-fine-detail stuff is omitted for sanity.

@@DFX2KX Yes I'm aware, I have a decompiled version of the game and can read the code. :P It's not a simulator, and to imply it is one is wrong. It's just a game with a lot of depth that I enjoy playing.

The very first thing he mentions, where you're interacting and don't have any physical controls to grip on to is definitely a thing with VTOL and it can impact certain aspects of the game in strange ways.

Just change rudder control from twisting to thumb stick control. I noticed that because there's nothing to physically grab, I tend to twist my wrist on accident during maneuvers which activates rudder controls which makes the planes fly weird. Moving that to thumb stick controls makes flying the virtual stick a lot easier and precise.

@@VIDGamer it’s very much possible. After you press start game, eventually there will be a settings button and in that menu you’ll find the option.

11:31 the game mashes together different planes that one was the F/A 35B it is mainly f 15 but with some F/A 18 in there like how the vertical stabilizers are slightly slanted, and all aircraft in the game are carrier capable.

@@ThatSpecificIndividual not quite. you have a plane that is f18 in a f15 airframe, an f35 ripoff, some strange hybrid between a10 and osprey and the most "f14 at home" brick ever (with both seats, too, giving off some strong "you can be my wingman anytime" vibes). that is pretty much what you want from a game of this type. while airframe and hydrodynamic (read "aerodynamic") sim is a bit lacking, the radar and electro-optical simulation is unparalleled. i love that raider, sead, role so i am thrilled like a child again. i don't do trainers or sky blenders so i never bought those dlc's...

The f26 is the best one imo, you can turn off the glimiter and rip your wings off. I like doing it and doing inverted flyby’s over the runways of ATC severs

I like loading up on 31 GPS guided bombs, taking my sweet time to get up to max possible speed at max altitude (≈20 minutes) and then raining hell on the airport and getting tf outa there before anyone can get close enough

It should be worth noting and you should tell the pilot that the game is set in the near future, all the aircraft are fictional, the one he's flying is called F/A-26 and it's mainly based on the F-15 but a modern rework with stealth features and for example the modern helmet used in the F-35. You should also tell him there is an F-35B based fighter with the only difference being the fact it uses Canards instead of a horizontal tail. Also in VTOL VR you wouldn't be using a mouse, you use some VR controllers where you can control your in-game hands and therefore do feel the throttle sticks up to a certain extent.

I know that the A-10s have practice in multiple States in multiple countries. To practice the logistics and safety of landing reloading the arming and getting that plane back up in the air as quick as possible.

You gotta get him to react to or play IL-2. It's way better and more realistic than games like War Thunder, and it competes with DCS for which is more realistic. Just make sure everything is set right.

Only issue is that il-2 is ww2 era aircrafts only and really showing the game's age (but I still love to sink hours and hours into it occasionally). Maybe rather Lock-on? It's also ass old game, but with more recent aircrafts (and essentially predecessor of DCS), so closer to his field of expertise.

For starters, war thunder is not a sim lmfao. So of course its more realistic. Secondly, il-2 is old and only about ww2. DCS has ww2 aircraft and custom made ww2 missions. No real reason to go to il-2 if you have dcs and no real reason to get il-2 over dcs unless you're just a ww2 enthusiast.

@@DCGMatthew1 I'm very aware of the release dates lmfao. Which game gets current patches, keeps up with current hardware, and has continuous content updates? DCS does. IL-2 does not, making it the older game. Not to mention that not every il-2 game has vr support. Everything about DCS has VR support. Plus il-2 looks like it still runs off of ps3 graphics. And to top it all off, I don't play either. I play vtol vr lmao. So you can dismiss whatever bias you thought I had 😂

@@MTEditz IL-2 literally does still get updates, content, patches, etc. Though. I'm not even sure why you'd say something like, "Not every IL-2 game has VR support..." Like, yeah, the older ones that came out before VR Headsets were really a thing. Every single IL-2 game and DLC after BoS has VR support. Why would you even bring up the old games? I wouldn't bring up older builds of DCS that didn't have VR, because that makes no sense. And honestly I'd probably say IL-2 has way better VR support. And if you think it looks like a PS3 game you either need glasses or a better computer.

This is for the pilot, you can use an actual flight sim stick and there are accessories to turn your controller into a flight stick. However, not having a physical stick is not too bad, it just makes you a little shaky lol. I am going to try to use my hotas stick next time I play Vtol and see if it is better or worse.

you may want to use your armchair rest to stabilize your hand hotas makes it less immersive in my opinion. that interactivity with the actual knobs and the pressure from headset is truly what "sells" it to my brain. simple things like you can't fiddle with your stick, throttle and change your mfd at the same time because you don't have that third hand or the precise simulation of radars is amazing.

As a dude who works on Lockheeds Full Mission Simulator, the Vtol VR F45 cockpit looks surprisingly similar to the cockpit in the F35 FMS. obviously missing features but the displays are good.

Can't do that with the VR controllers. But the MFDs are pretty bang on. Oddly enough the Jettison knob is the same lol. Same placement, same thing altogether. Weird how the dev did that

VTOL VR doesn't use real plane models, they're all fake aircraft made to resemble real ones by mixing and matching different parts of different planes but none of them are actually depicting a real life aircraft.

If they happen to get into a dogfight and don't jettison that munition then they're putting themself at risk of not just dying, but also getting a few hundred million dollars worth of aircraft destroyed. Whats worse? Losing some government pocket change over a couple GBUs? or a pilot dying in an aircraft thats north of $200 million? Get your priorities straight lmfao. Pilots will jettison tanks and unneeded munitions in BVR fights as well. You gonna complain about that too?

It's a VR game and a pretty well optimized one at that (I managed to run it with an old AMD R9 290 GPU and i5 Haswell Refresh CPU). You don't want a UE5 game running at the high resolutions of VR, trust me. Not everyone has a RTX 4090 with an AMD Threadripper CPU mate.

he wanted to know what the aircraft in the game actually are, when he asked about it specifically, the video had a clip of the pilot flying the FA-26B which I think is supposed to be kind of a mix of the f/a-18 and a sukhoi su-57, and I think a little bit of F-22? in other parts of the video the pilot is flying the F-45 which is the game's version of the F-35, but it has canards as well the Helicopter is the AH-94 and I can't quite put my finger on what influenced its design other than the apache this video was kinda ass tho
