JHello all, how do you do. I’ve repeatedly been asked to talk about Lateral Navigation (LNAV), and Vertical Navigation procedures and sequence on the Boeing 747-400 air the Boeing 747-8. To put it simply, before departure, part of the preparation by the pilots ( While passengers are checking in etc), is to insert the planned route in the Flight Management system. In doing this, the pilots pre-programme the lateral route and also give instructions as to how high and when the aircraft should climb on the route. The Lateral Navigation engages at 50 feet after lift off while the Vertical Navigation engages at 400 feet. The required altitude is pre-selected on the MCP ( Mode Control Panel) and any other en- route climbs or descents too. Have a watch and I hope you will have some idea what LNAV and VNAV are and how they work. By the way, the landing gear is down so that i could slow the rate of climb giving me time to explain the events at a slower pace as they happened.So in summary, LNAV is left-right while VNAV is Up-Down. Hope you like it. Later!😀✈️✈️✈️✈️

Of all the Boeing pilots I've seen talking about LNAV/VNAV, none have been this instructive. The way you just show exactly which buttons you push and what they do explained in simple terms is unmatched anywhere else on KZbin. Thank you, Captain!

Nice explanations out here!! One question sir. Can the pilots set takeoff thrust by pushing the thrust levers manually to takeoff power setting, without pressing the TO/GA button? If yes, what would be the indications in the FMA?

Wow , i didn't know i could press altitude selector button on autopilot panel. I thought it's only possible in airbus... Well i guess this is the reason why autopilot didn't listen to me in vnav mod when dispatcher gave me a certain altitude.

Why sometimes I see when the speed tape indicates say flaps 10, pilots start retract to flaps 5 instead? Is that different plane models have different procedures or depend on their airline companies flight rules?

Hello Captain, just wondering for most of the cases, once the aircraft took off, will the speed need to be built up first or the altitude? Which comes to your priority?? Thanks
@pilot_obet
@pilot_obet 3 жыл бұрын
Its sort of both. First though just after liftoff, you attain a climb out safety speed. Then you maintain this this until a specified altitude, usually 1000 feet before you start to accelerate to retract the flaps😊

Quite a number of times, we may need to takeoff with the APU providing air conditioning air to the packs. This allows greater thrust from the engines. This avails a higher takeoff weight. So APU is NOT always OFF for takeoff 😄
@bruhitsmoh
