Could it be because of the screen type, touch sensitive to finger, soft stylus, or pen. If I use a pen type, or my less greased finger nail, my scanner goes bonkers!

I appear to be an alien. I say that because I don't float when thrown into water, I sink like a brick, and touchscreens don't respond to my fingers. I use a stylus with my Diagun V since my fingers don't do anything with it. The stylus I use has what looks like a steel wool end on it. (although of course it isn't) and it's about a 1/4" in diameter.

I personally use both the Autel pro and Ultra. And an Autel AL539 for quick scans, battery tests and multimeter. Being that the shop I work requires inspections get done for every vehicle the AL539 is an essential. I feel scantools are a combination of preference and needs. Some scantools are better at one thing or another than others. No one scantool does everything the best. And depending on what you work on the most will dictate what you'll need in terms of scantool tooling. Everything the Thinktool does the Autel does. Saving reports. Complete scans. Etc. But I'm sure at some point there will be a car that the Autel will have issues with where the Thinktool won't. If you're a professional diagnostician you need multiple scantools. If you're a hobbyist a Thinktool will be more than enough.

Does the Autel allow programming of used and new modules?
@edwinlomonaco6754
@edwinlomonaco6754 2 жыл бұрын
@@DormantIdeasNIQ Depends on what you're programming. For most modules yes it will. But for some you'll need the Autel pass through. And for key programming they make a dedicated tool that programs key fobs/intelligent keys. Most manufacturers require subscriptions regardless. So ultimately if you're going to be doing a lot of programming and or updates you'll need the individual licensing associated with each manufacturer. In which case you don't need a scantool. Autel will allow some module programming. But that really boils down to what the manufacturers will let you do more than the scantools ability to program.

I have a brand new Autel AL 539 and never use it. I did use it a few times and then one day it wouldn't turn on. Itwas under warranty but Autel refused to repair or replace it under warranty so I refused to ever buy another Autel product again. They did me a favour in a way because I have bought several Launch products since and their scanners like Topdon offer me lifetime free updates. That fact alone has saved me a lot more than the cheap brand new Autel Al 539 cost me.

I have a cabinet full of car electronic tools and scanners. I have found that brands like Launch and Topdon offer the best products and after sales service. And most of my Launch and Topdon products offer me free full lifetime updates. Personally I have found that other big brands names like Autel do not deliver a product and service ike Launch. I have a brand new Launch AL539 which worked fine a few times but when it wouldn't turn on under the warranty Autel would not even repair or replace it under their one year warranty. They played me around for 6 months until it was out of warranty. It's still got the original clear plastic protection over the screen for Christ sake. Like new. Anyway they probably did me a big favour because I discovered Launch and they offer me the best product over a much larger range of cars with full free lifetime updates which has saved me much more than the Autel products have cost me.

@@globalcommerce7654 No, now that I have received my 20% discounted (### Thanks for the Tip, Ivan!! ### ) ThinkTool PROS in. I don't think one is a copy of the other. The thinktool seems to do a lot more, just in terms of saving data and telemetry on a vehicle to vehicle basis, allowing pre and post repair reports. That's a nice feature. You can save telemetry, photos, notes, etc from the looks of it. Comparing it by hooking it into a Honda CRV, it has more functions and pids. The interface is much faster. Some dialog boxes look similar but that's likely a function of whatever tool they used to develop the software. It scans fast too. The hierarchical view is new to me - it makes it all very clear. I haven't fixed anything with it yet but will try the launch and thinktool side by side.

I've had a Launch X431 Pad II for a good while now, back when I was working at the local Volvo dealer. I generally only worked on Volvo's, Mercedies and BMWs back then. It was far better than the shop's Snap-On scanner on those types of cars. Admittedly, it's pretty slow on initial bootup. But once it's up and running, it's reasonably fast. My only hang-up on it is that Launch scanners seem to be a bit lacking in TPMS support for a lot of cars. And now that I work for a body shop that works on practically everything under the sun, I'm beginning to wonder if I should consider upgrading.

Nice video. I bought the Thinktool Pros last month based on Ivan's recommendation. They had it on sale for about $970 plus a $99 off coupon so with that plus a small Amazon points balance I was able to pick it up for around $856. It's a very nice scanner and I have already used it on a couple of vehicles. I'm just a DIY'er but wanted something a lot better than what I had. I will point out that the Pros is a discontinued model and the new equivalent is the Thinkcar Platinum S10 which Thinkcar is having a 30% off sale right now. The S10 is more expensive at $1,499 but with the discount will be cheaper. I believe it offers a few things that the Pros doesn't like internet access. I have also bought some of the modules that you can use with the Pros and their Platinum series of scanners and they are pretty nice as well. We still use the Diagun IV in our shop. But, since we do a lot of Jeep and Dodge trucks, it isn't much use to us anymore. Remember, the Diagun IV is not blessed by AutoAuth so you can't get the Diagun past the FCA security gateway. Launch USA has other scan tools that are AutoAuth compliant but, the Diagun isn't one of them. Of our three scan tools the Diagun is great on Asian but, the Autel Maxisys 908 and the Snap-On Apollo D-9 are the go-to scan tools for everything else.

@Anonymous-it5jw 2 жыл бұрын
Yearly fees are a great point - one KZbinr recently recommended a great scanner, in his judgment, which I respect, but it proved difficult for me to access any of the free software for all vehicles that was promised. It was hard to determine if the problem was just a temporary software glitch, or a promise intentionally not honored by the manufacturer/distributor, since buyers had little or no recourse. However, over several days of trying to get the included software I had paid for, I noticed that purchasers were conveniently offered a way to easily purchase the modules you might need at considerable cost per module for each manufacturer and specific model line of its vehicles, if I remember correctly. What I do vividly remember is that the extra cost of having to purchase expensive specific software modules, for the scanner to be usable, immediately converted this purchase into a non-starter, and a trap for unwary purchasers. Luckily I had purchased it from Amazon and I returned it within the 30-day return window, rather than take a chance. Others, if they got the promised software, may have received a wonderful tool, and I hope they did.

I'd love to see an explanation of how the popular scanners relate to each other (like which ones share software and update providers), and also why it seems quite difficult to figure out which is the manufacturer website corresponding to especially the Launch products. It's almost like there are multiple Launch companies. Or different sets of products for different markets, with the Diagun being imported to the US through some back door or something. I'm not saying there's necessarily anything shady, just it's puzzling.

Glad you did this. Really helps. What about the bi lateral scanners that make the cars do test like evap system in specific please? I replaced the entire sensor and line all the way back and the price off the tank. Everything but the big square box between the frame. Been driving it for over 600 miles and it still won't test or what's called , be ready to read. Driving me crazy and need this for inspection.

@@sirsweetness8332 I bought an 04 E55 AMG in June 2020 and liked it so much I just bought an 07 S550 as a daily. The way I see it, I am putting my skills to work to be able to drive nice cars. The E55 was $9500 and the S550 was $12k. The E55 runs solid mid-12s and while an LS460 can probably do a reasonable approximation of my S550, it's not the same thing, at all. Guess a lot will do with the cost to update. I’m just a diyer and don’t want to spend a ton of $$ but would like a good scan tool. I’ve always done my own work but looks like an above average scan tool is a must have these days. Looking for one with bi-directional control, topology, fuel injector balancing, and good data stream capabilities in the $600-$800 range. Any recommendations?

Thanks for the ThinkTool Pros review. I ordered and received the amazon special. I will add that the literature states that you can continue to use the scanner even if you don't upgrade. I can find no source for what each adapter is used for. They appear to be OBD1 adapters. Do you simply go by physical fit to use the adapters? Is there a car vs adapter listing somewhere? My last question, can you use the phone app on this ThinkDiag unit once it is registered using the tablet? It appears that all the proprietary stuff is in the diag unit, not in the tablet.

ThinkCar/ThinkTool seem to have adopted some of the confusing naming from Launch. The Bluetooth dongles they have seem attractive for DIYers, but the way the software is licensed it would get expensive if you had to work on multiple different brands of vehicle.

Replying to myself and the rest of you. If you don't know, because the directions included with the Thinktool are just Chinesium comprehensive. In order to get the screenshot button to show you have to enable that feature in the scanner by running your finger from the top of the screen down to the middle and out of nowhere will appear a menu that allows you to select brightness and change some other settings. Selecting the enable screenshot icon will place the screenshot icon on the screen. This of course is not anywhere in the instruction booklet. Furthermore you can move the little icon anywhere you want on the screen once it is enabled.

Noticed you focused on speed (boot, diag) and data pid reading/graphing. Are these 2 equivalent in terms of bi-directional control and special functions? Did you not cover those areas because you don't use them as much or just because they are essentially equivalent between these 2 options? My other question is whether there is any difference between these 2 in terms of add-on fees/subscriptions required per manufacturer or vehicle (or do you get full manufacturer/vehicle coverage forever for the original purchase price)?
