If you have a restriction up stream from the injectors, the individual injectors can pass a static flow test and they will only starve for fuel when the engine is running. Pressure can be good but volume inadequate. Don’t ask how I know 😂
@NCPDFSB5 жыл бұрын
my thought also..... needs a volume test on that bank to conclude theory.
@tomvleeuwen5 жыл бұрын
Would that not at least cause a small difference on the drop test? I don't think the drop test flow is significantly lower than idle, and most of the fuel pressure during the drop test is coming from the shared fuel lines. So the fuel pressure in the rail itself, after the restriction, should drop significantly during the test if there was a restriction which should result in lower drop overall.
@jkbrown54965 жыл бұрын
I can see that. A restriction that is slowing, not stopping, the refill downstream so that the rail goes lean as the fire rate increases volume needs.
@jackpatteeuw92445 жыл бұрын
Got to be fuel pressure/flow related !

@psdaengr9115 жыл бұрын
My WAG: If the pressure drop on a static test is ok but it acts like it's starved under load, then there's a restriction, possibly intermitent , not a solid blockage. Stuff could be moving under full flow conditions and compacting, or the line is pinched

(edited after rewatching) hint: *I can see two different runners for each intake tract* The injectors are firing but not enough fuel is getting to the Bank 2 (even numbered) cylinders. Are all the injectors plugged up on Bank 2? (nope, not entirely) When Ivan cut the ECU trigger to the even numbered injectors there was no difference in the engine speed or roughness. When he cut the odd numbered (Bank 1) injector triggers then the engine stumbled on the loss of fuel. All the injectors are seeing the expected current profiles, including the extra "on time" for the fuel trims (lean running) on Bank 2. It's got to be something preventing the proper amount of fuel from actually squirting out of the Bank 2 injectors even though they are being properly triggered. The fuel pressure test equipment did not reveal a lack of pressure to either bank. All injectors fired off roughly the same amount of trapped rail pressure with the external injector triggering gadget. This may not reveal a partially plugged Bank 2 fuel rail that passes fuel but not enough to prevent starvation. The idea of the VVT or cam phasers having something to do with it is a bit over my head. *I can see two different runners for each intake tract* -- a short and a long. Is the port injector upstream of the plenum butterfly? Is the plenum butterfly stuck in the wrong position on one side? I have a second gen Acura TL that the stealership sabotaged by pulling out the wire that goes to the plenum butterfly solenoid. Obviously ripped out by hand on purpose. It only threw the money light on when I floored it to pass a truck two weeks after the dealer service. It took me a while to figure out what was going on. They didn't get a dime. I never went back to them again. (original post) Maybe I wasn't paying attention but why isn't it the O2 sensor? You have injectors firing and fuel pressure. Maybe it's restricted fuel flow like someone already said. It's like having voltage but not enough amperage (current). Keith already knows and he's making you learn the hard way so that you remember this lesson. Great Teacher NLA.

@VoltageDropDiagnostics5 жыл бұрын
@@mikemiddal6245 the difference in the pulse width is because the computer senses that the one bank is running lean, so it is trying to correct it by leaving the fuel injectors on that bank open longer.

maybe injectors firing at the wrong time from mixed up control wires or bad computer so no combustion taking place and air going straight out of exhaust valve and pegging AF sensor lean causing computer to try to add fuel hence the increased injector pulse width on bank 2 injectors and also accounting for the misfire on all 3..

The amount of investigative guess work on newer vehicles is totally reckless as an automobile manufacturer. You would think there would be minimum design/engineering requirements set for mechanics to be able to diagnose faults much easier. This is why the public can't find good solid repair shops, most of them can't do this and opt for the parts exchange process.

The manufacturers have been playing around. They used port injection, then decided that direct injection was the better system, but that also gives up some torque and creates issues with valve deposits. So they now have decided that both is the way to go. This is still going to get worse though. There are engines on the drawing boards that use both fuel systems, plus VVT on top of variable displacement and compression with turbocharging !!!

So, crazy questions time! 1) Does this engine use Variable Intake Runner Geometry to change airflow characteristics between Port and Direct injection strategies? Have you ever manually actuated a runner flap on a car when the engine isn't expecting it, and seen what it can do to fuel trims? 2) How many upstream O2/AFR sensors does this vehicle have PER BANK? Dual upstream O2S systems don't always display on scantools. Also, this being a Toyota at heart, what are your ETFT/Post-Cat Trims looking like? This car is only 3 years old; your ETFT data can, on occasion, give some insight into the nature and duration of the problem.
