Ivan, thanks for the great video! Without your help on this one, I'd still, most likely, be chasing my tail on this issue! 😅 I'm very happy to report that the Mountaineer is still running like a champ - no more "dee doo's" ever since I replaced the entire ABS unit. I put the ABS unit to the test a few times now; when it was raining I tested the braking and now with the snow that we just had, I put the spin test on it and its working perfectly. I also repaired that "badly repaired" hot wire that was under the battery tray and cleaned up the harness with some good wire loom conduit. Since it's running fine now, I think I'll keep as it reminds me of my mother, when I drive it and I'm sure she's happy that we solved the problem. How on earth she dealt with that alarm all those years, is beyond me. But, she was a mother with lots of patience. To all of you other shade tree mechanics out there, be persistent with problems that you find. I don't know of one vehicle manufacturer out there that doesn't have problems. Yes, I grew up with Fords all around me, but I'm not biased towards them. I still have a 2000 Ford Ranger that hasn't given me any problems except for the standard routine maintenance (and rust issues. But at 24 years old and living in the rust belt, I'm not complaining.) I've had Datsun's (yes, I'm in my early 60's) and I also have a 2011 Subaru Legacy with 232,000 miles and runs like a champ - and I'll most likely drive that car into the ground because it has been so good to me. The only problem that the Legacy gave me, was a bad solenoid in the CVT valve body - but, with some research, I fixed it myself. I've also had (2) Mercury Cougars XR7's in the past that were great cars. The way I see it, is that if you take care of them, they'll take care of you. And when problems do arise, and you're struggling to get the problem resolved, there's always Ivan to help you out. Many thanks again, Ivan! If I ever come across something else that I can't diagnose on my own, I know where you live. 😜

Much respect to people who try to fix their own cars, it's so worth it not just for money savings but also the satisfaction of figuring things out. I had that problem on the 'ol Marquis years ago. That ABS pump was about $400.00 and I replaced it myself. The ABS light would come on when the car went about 12 mph and would flash. It also works with the traction assist and in the owner's manual it says the hydraulic pump can overheat if you continually spin the rear tires. It has a thermal switch that is supposed to shut it down if it gets too hot. Great repair, Ivan! GREAT VIDEO!

HI IVAN ,great video.This was the needle in a haystack job.LOOSE PINS>OK that's a hard issue to "PIN" down.haha Teaching a customer how to do the right steps to diagnose his problem is gold. Proving once again that you want to involve the customers in the repairs themselves so they understand the issues and why they pay you good money.In this case i think the issue was pin fitment all along>and firing the parts canon would not have solved it.the factory ABS modual may have still worked but the last owner was unaware of the REPROGRAM ISSUE.Launch for the win.

Ivan, if the customer has a sun roof, that water is not draining out properly down the window pillar. Have him open the sunroof and use compressed air down the drain hole. You also may have to run a piece of 14 awg solid wire down that drain hole to clear it out. This is common on all older escapes and especially if the Car sits under a tree! Great video as always!

The ending reminded me of a R172 SLK350 I experienced with a bad abs module. The customer lived on a gravel road and when ESP cut in the motor relay inside the module got stuck closed and the abs pump ran continuously until you pulled the connector or the battery, it was sitting in the carpark whirring away after the tow truck dropped it off. To me it seemed a strange mode of failure for the ABS pump, and I was a bit surprised it had a terminal 30 connection tied to pump operation

Amazed to see that the Launch tool also has the exact same as-built programming Order of Operations glitch that the recent versions of Ford FJDS have had! It still works fine, it'll just spook you if you've done a lot of as-built programmings.
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics Жыл бұрын
What was the glitch? 🤔
@rhkips
@rhkips Жыл бұрын
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics It asked you to install the new module after you had entered the as-built data. It should only ask for that if you told it the old module was still installed, and it would prompt for it prior to entering as-built data. This glitch exists in FJDS as well, at least as of a few months ago (last time I used it), and if you're pulling data off an old module, it will really screw you up. It can be overcome with some trial and error (and bad words), though! It really highlights that companies like Autel and ThinkTool are pulling the code direct from the OEM software. Whether it's licensed or not, I do not know.

How fun was that ? I worked at a Cadillac dealership years ago, the early ABS systems did not have the ability to check for DTC's so it was all step by step diagnostics, there is one I'll probably never forget, it's a long story so I'll just summarize it, a pinhole leak in a heater hose would spray on the hood, drip down on the pressure switch causing the the not to run when needed of course this was very intermittent because the heater hose would spray more under engine torque, anyway it was an interesting lesson.

Although most of my trouble shooting is mostly on the industrial side with over half a century of training and experience the same rules and laws apply. All data points must have a weight or relevance that ought to be explained, hearsay or word of mouth must be given the least relevance and so on. Unfortunately, most of us with experience don’t do a good job in explaining this to those with less experience because we do this unconsciously. All trouble shooting should start with a symptom function analysis, lamp doesn’t work check to see if it is plugged in, back when we had mechanical ignition points, car starts when cranking but stops when you let go of the key is most likely the ballast resister. Modern cars are much more complicated, diagnostics are required in the use of a scan tool or other testing, or a scope using signature analysis that are given a weight or relevance that ought to be explained. If the weight or relevance is not one hundred percent, we start replacing parts unnecessarily….

I may have issues with mine as i cannot seem to maintain a stable connection to graph any trends where yours seems rock solid. I tried looking at their website to possibly buy another dongle and try that but I cannot seem to find any trace of the PROS on their website or how to ensure I'm getting the right one. Wish I lived close enough to have a certain someone "diagnose" my scantool. that'd make a good video eh?

Nice work Ivan! Electronic systems can be alarmingly difficult to most. That can ding you when a customer gets the "one more issue" return to shop light. At least the computer set the code right away. Was it because of the gravel road or does it check the pump each time the break is pressed?

After every startup the abs system checks the pump motor once the vehicle hits something like 5-10 mph. So that's why it went off down the driveway, he finally hit the test speed. In some vehicles you can hear the pump run when you hit the magic speed.
