Love the channel, but I'd have loved to see the challenge series have a bit more variety. Rather than putting the drivers through essentially the same process at each stage, advance as you would through the fitting process. So here's the idea: Round 1 - keep it the same - all drivers evaluated in neutral settings with the same shaft. Round 2 - Take each driver through a fitting to optimize the performance, these videos would be a little longer form and have more of the conversations that have been the hallmark of the channel. Evaluate the numbers the same way you would in any fitting Final Round - on course testing of the three drivers. It would be great to see how they perform over a round of golf in the real world. It would be a chance to really see if what's happening in the studio is reflected on the course.

One of the things that has amazed me about driver fitting is the amount of improvement I’ve seen in hitting the middle of the club face. I was hoping to get a higher ball flight, which I did but seeing little dimple marks in the middle of the face is a huge confidence builder. When I walked out of TXG with my Rogue, Mike and Chris both said, “don’t touch those settings “. I don’t and I won’t. It’s always instructive to watch the simplicity and power of Matt’s swing. @SMUGAMER5 жыл бұрын
I don't understand why you guys tested the 410LST (Fuji) with a different shaft than the 400LST (Pro White)? If the point was to see if the 410 was worth the upgrade it seems you'd have to keep the shafts constant to isolate the head differences. Now, I have no idea if it was purely the Fuji shaft in the 410 that was a better fit for Matty versus any measurable difference in the heads. What say ye???
@henrymonster99265 жыл бұрын
SMUgamer Dallas As an enginerd this drives me nuts. I assume they may have done some testing off camera? Especially since the shafts are not balanced similarly, maybe a profile Matt reacts better to with his swing. That being said, I appreciate that they keep the sample size big enough but not so big that fatigue plays out towards the end. Might be why we don't see every combo of every head and shaft. A good follow up video may be a "true fitting" for the 410 to perfectly dial it in.
@clubchampionmedia5 жыл бұрын
Shafts were optimized for each head, plenty of testing both on and off camera confirmed that decision. Gave both heads the best chance to perform at their best

Matty used to play the TPT shaft in his G400 LST. Not the Tensei White. But if the G410 LST is at least as good as the G400 LST and has the added bonus of adjustable weight and face angle change, then its a valid improvement over the G400 LST which has neither of these.

@scottclements6945 жыл бұрын
HI Ian, Great video as always. I am definitely interested in the G410! Many times in your vides you have talked about how spin stabilizes ball flight. I have never been clear on why. Could you explain how backspin helps to stabilize ball flight (in the horizontal direction). I can understand how too little spin would cause the ball to "drop" out of the air more quickly. If the spin axis is identical for two strikes and one ball spins more than the other wouldn't one expect the ball with more spin to stay in the air longer and curve more due to an increase in the magnus effect (magnus effect is directly proportional to spin rate). What am I missing?
@jayfangRSA5 жыл бұрын
Really good question, and with respect to genuine huge respect earned by Ian, who explained on another TXG video how "spin stabilizes flight" it was not convincingly done so for me. What I understand is actually happening is that a lower effective CG on a particular strike will cause BOTH more spin and a spin axis closer to zero as at the same time. Think of club tilting "upwards" at impact rather tilting than "left or right". Which is akin to the "effective (or dynamic) D-plane". Now D-plane is well understood more loft => straighter and more spin even with same delivery. What do you think?
@scottclements6945 жыл бұрын
@@jayfangRSA Hi Jason. Thanks for the reply but I'm not sure I follow you. I believe a strike lower on the face, i.e. below the CG of the club should cause the head to twist downward and cause the spin on the ball to increase via the gear effect. The club head would get an upward tilt if you hit the ball higher on the face above the CG which in turn would reduce the spin on the ball.
@jayfangRSA5 жыл бұрын
@@scottclements694 sure, I'm not certain on this. Now the gear effect is intended to affect spin so an extra variable. What I was referring to was same strike with different club. Another view is that a high strike has low spin (due to gear effect) but trends to fly straight (spin axis close to zero) because of the dynamic D-plane effect I suggest. Remember I'm definitively not saying spin means straight!
