I wouldn't focus too much on the winning. Really focus on improving your technique and then the results will come. In terms of tactics when playing a match, try and find what side your opponent is weakest. Is it there backhand, forehand, or middle? Once you know that play more balls to that area. Also find out what serves of yours they don't like. Good luck!

I discovered this shot a few years ago and this has become my favorite offensive shot. I love to get the opportunity to hit this one because I can get so much spin on the ball that it can go almost 70 degrees on a slower shot. No doubt that this is my go to fun shot!

Do you guys have a video on how to return the hook or fade shot?
@pingskills6 жыл бұрын
Not specifically, that is a good idea for a video. You can either try the block but adjust the angle to counter for the sidespin. Or you can try to counter topspin the ball.
@joshandrews89137 жыл бұрын
So I have an odd question about a special case for a serve. I understand that for a serve to be a let, the serve hits the net but must otherwise be a legal serve. Normally this is when you serve, the ball hits your table, the net, then the opponent's table. However, what if the order is changed? I got a really lucky (or unlucky) serve where the ball hit the net, my table, then the opponent's table. In short, a normal let serve has the order table-net-table, but what if the order is net-table-table? Thanks!
@pingskills7 жыл бұрын
Wow, interesting question. I don't know that off the top of my head. I've never seen this happen, do you think it's even possible? If you like you can ask this on the ask the coach section of the website and we'll see if we can get an official umpire to answer this for you.

How did that happen at 3:15? Can you explain how to spin with forehand?

That's what the video is trying to explain. The spin is generated by contacting the side of the ball with a brushing motion. That gets the ball spinning sideways.

Good suggestion. For the moment take a look at our forehand block and backhand block videos. This is the basic stroke you need but you have to alter the angle to counter the sidespin.

@x.x.76467 жыл бұрын
Very helpful. But I must say that it looks easier than it is during a match. I´ve already tried it but the error rate was quite high. So I find it better to concentrate on placement and topspin variations.
@pingskills7 жыл бұрын
That is true. We try to emphasise that this is a riskier stroke. It's a good idea to concentrate on getting a really good and consistent normal topspin before using this too much. However keep trying it occasionally in practice.

@pingskills4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure exactly what you mean but if you get the ball spinning sideways then it will curve through the air.
@mustafaaljanabi48184 жыл бұрын
@@pingskills its not really about curving in the air, its the same as your concept BUT the different is the contact point is to the FRONT of the ball, the players face not his opponent, and then yo brush it to the right or to the left. No my follow through is about shoulder high, and the ball is kept on the rubber a n d sponge, very little wood of the blade. There is an extreme amount of top spin, its more of a spin shot than a power shot. The ball jumps into the floor. The b all probably only clears the net by 6 inches. I use Hadegawa's grip , index finger straight up the bat. I have been tolf this is a semi penholder grip.

Does it possible to attack Backspin?
@darthdani005 жыл бұрын
I PLAY FOR YOU I just saw your comment today and I hope my answer can be useful. Yes you can use backspin as an offensive tactic, you need to send them really near the edge of the table and trying to keep low with a lot of backspin. It is hard to topspin them and you will most likely get a high ball thag you can easily attack
