Just watched this video cause I was looking for this! Yes, deadheading. There is this 'Coconut Surprise' I put in last year. Didn't know it was a perennial. The blooms didn't last long. This year they came out beautifully, numerous blooms and I'm finding out they will bloom all season. Love this. Other dianthus have the long stems, easy to deadhead. This one not so much. Thanks for the vid!

I like the idea of using the micro snips for deadheading these plants. I have a micro snip that I use on my indoor plants, and will now be using it outside also.

🏡. You're such a a cute couple as you work and conserve with your audience of one ! It's so good to see in times sech as these . I'm trying to fgh7ijj your video with cardboard as cover for weed suppression. I need my garden to be a sanctuary not a worry of energy and strength and money I do not have . Just the little fence line is just a pipedream .; but I can do it ? Thank you for sharing your fun side 🩷

I know nothing about flowers and last year picked some flowers including this. This is my favourite. I deadheaded using scissors, didn’t know anything. It comes back 3,4 times just until November while others are dead, now winter is over, it didn’t even get brown. I can’t wait for it to flower again. Lily is the least favourite. Only bloom once and take up so much space.

Fiskars also make a great little pair of dainty pruners like that. I have one pair I use all the time and I have three more pairs still in the packages for the future just in case they break or I lose them. I've often lost my original pair but I always find them before I open one of those new packages.

Hi! Would you be able to dry those dead dianthus you trimmed off? Or do the dead flowers need to mature on the plant, in order to harvest the seeds???

@Spoken Garden Hi I planted these pink dianthus in the spring in full sun in ground. Each plant only bloomed a couple of flowers and some not at all. I did give them some fertilizer at the end of Spring. It's summer now and still no blooms but the foliage looks healthy. Should I give up and pull the plants?
@philisbramlett6890
@philisbramlett6890 2 ай бұрын
Please don't pull them up ! I have made so many blunders 💔 Stop over water except when extremely hot . I treat them like lilacs , They do not like "wet feet " so don't ! My plants Thrive on Neglect With Love . I am older , weak , I love gardening in my "not so filled in " new cottage beds .but health and strength and finances I must trust GOD TO regenerate as I go I buy Drought Tolerant after Established plants . Rabbit & Deer Resist. Mold resist , hardy . Full SUN. ( tolerates heat well) to part shade . Dianthus are beautiful 🩷 Just plant in the soil that you have stirred up loosely or mix 1 cup potting soil inr broken up soil make it Lofty to root in easier .. Looking good already 💫 Water well 🩵 PS... If the plant IS lush and green and not producing blooms : Buried too deep .( Not ) Overeater ( ?) maybe NPK of fertilizer ? ( too much nitrogen like grass fertilizer NO NO ! Not enough phoshorous to produce blooms . "Plant tone" in spring & fall . SUN : Not enough sun (?)

I live in the north east. We had alot if rain about 3 weeks ago. The buds were brown and mushy so I dead headed them with my hands. I think I over did it and took off the good buds. So far I only have gotten one flower to bloom. I don't know what to do. Will it grow more buds or did I ruin it?
@SpokenGarden
@SpokenGarden 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ingrid! 👋 That is a very good question. It's good that you took the initiative and removed any brown, mushy, or otherwise bad-looking buds because you don't want to encourage any diseases or pests to set up residence on your plants. Good Job! 👍 If you had lots of rain before and the soil around your plants hasn't had a chance to really dry out yet, it might just be a little to wet and this could be stressing your plants out enough that they dont' want to flower. Definitely check the soil around your plants to see and physically touch it to check how it is. Also, since lots of rain and water can move many available nutrients away and out of soils, try fertilizing (if you haven't already) every week or two with a liquid fertilizer when you water to stock back up nutrients to be available to your plants. If you have any yellowing or drooping leaves, this could be also a sign of soil being more wet than needed, so def check your soil moisture. Hope that helps and we hope you see lots of new flowers in the weeks to come! 👍😃💪 Thank you for watching!
