this is one of my favourite songs on the wall. it is really the finale of Pink's sanity. it is actually such a scary song.

In my eye, “Goodbye Blue Sky” and “Empty Spaces” are Pink’s loss of innocence from his childhood and transition into adulthood. In Goodbye Blue Sky, the Blue Sky, much like in The Thin Ice, represents innocence and life and the addition of “Goodbye” is Pink saying goodbye to childhood and Empty Spaces is him saying hello to adulthood.

@AfternoonProductions ....writer of those songs. He was assisted by Waters. Specifically, Waters and Gilmour both agree that they co-wrote "Young Lust" together. "While most songs on The Wall were written by Waters alone, most of the music for "Comfortably Numb" was written by David Gilmour, who originally recorded the instrumental demo during the latter stages of recording his first solo album, hoping to find some later use for it. Gilmour later brought his demo of it to The Wall sessions."

Also, I once read a "fictional biography" of a Pink Floyd Syd Barrett never left, never went insane, and kept his knack for catchy hits alive. In this alternative PF, Rick Wright (of all people) was the one to collaborate with Syd the most - sometimes on titles we recognized, but mostly not. It was ROGER who felt his songwriting wasn't getting the attention it deserved, so he left the band early on, It was a fun read!

@davidgilmourrocks01 So true... those are things I wish almost every time I hear music from that era and before. The musical industry these days is saturated in a way that nothing really is innovative anymore... Pink Floyd for ever, and it will be as far as I'm concerned!!

@kibbles1053 I had to miss it last year because of prior commitments, which was really depressing.. especially when my friends who went to the concert rubbed it in my face.. BUT! lo and behold, he's coming back to my city in July and I got my tickets as soon as they went on sale!! I can't wait!!

I understand why you'd believe that, but it's really not so. As Gilmour once put it, "[Roger's] had three other goes at making solo albums, and none of them are as good [as The Wall]. Now The Final Cut, that's a different story. It IS all Waters. Roger offered, in all sincerity, to make it alone as a solo album, because it was so personally important to him. He would be glad to take it off their hands. But as Roger put it, "They didn't want that, because they know songs don't grow on trees."

@AfternoonProductions Just because Waters departed from the band in 1983 after finishing The Final Cut, doesn't mean that the band broke up. Gilmour and the rest of the band mates kept the name up until 1995 when the entire band officially split up and called it quits.

I can never remember which is which, but originally the song that they played live (like in this video) was supposed to come between Goodbye Blue Sky and Young Lust, with the other appearing later on side two. But late in the game, after the lyric sheets had already been finalized, they decided to drop the first song, and move the second one (which I think was originally supposed to segue into Another Brick Part 3) up and have it segue into Young Lust.

@AfternoonProductions Also. The tour that is going on right now is called "Roger Waters: The Wall" because he is the only member of Pink Floyd who is doing the tour.....if Mason or Gilmour were with him for the entire tour, they would be calling the act Pink Floyd....as they had several years ago for the Live 8 benefit concert.... You need to get your facts straight.....

@AfternoonProductions Dude.....PINK FLOYD broke up in 1995...... Roger wrote a very large portion of the Wall, so legally he is allowed to tour it. Gilmour gave him rights to perform Young Lust and Comfortably Numb. (In addition....Roger wanted Gilmour to do the tour with him (because he likes the way Gilmour performs his two songs), but Gilmour refused because of the troubles and the rift between Waters and the rest of the band). RIP Wright

Be careful, and be committed to seeing that show! In 2011, I was so deeply into drugs, I was barely aware Roger Waters was in Dallas, and I damned well wasn't going to bu a ticket for the same price as five bags. But it was a "bottomitng out" for me. Sring 2012, I had a second chance: Austin, a mere four hour drive. But then my wonderful, warm, affectionate Grandma -without whom I would have been lost - died a few days before the shoow.

@hydrake wait woah woah woah. PINK FLOYD broke up soon after THE WALL came out. 1983 to be exact. And roger wrote every song in the wall, David only HELPED write those 2 songs. i dont know who told you they broke up in '95, or who said gilmour wrote those on his own. again, its called ROGER WATERS THE WALL 2010. not pink floyd the wall 2010. ok?

@AfternoonProductions I do think I know everything about Pink Floyd. What are you talking about when you say, "used the name"??? Don't you mean David Gilmour, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason continued the band??? Just because Roger leaves doesn't mean the band isn't Pink Floyd anymore. Also....you'll notice that the style of the songs, "Young Lust", "Comfortably Numb", and "Run Like Hell" are drastically different than anything else on the album.....this is because Gilmour was the principal....

@omarmhalilovic @HappyInsaneBicho You're both right and you're both wrong. Later in the years it got to the point where either Roger or David were in control, but it was never always one or the other. The Wall might have been Roger Waters, but The Division Bell was a huge Gilmour effort and was a very good album.

@AfternoonProductions I did keep one opinion. You're just freaking out because you don't have any information to back yourself up with. Btw, I have a lot of Pink Floyd albums. I have: Animals, Atom Heart Mother, Dark Side of the Moon, Division Bell, Momentary Lapse, The Wall (The demo version which was the first ever run through of the album before practicing the album and recording it for release), The Wall (production release), Wish You Were Here, and a bunch of live albums you don't have.

Not exactly - Gilmour, Mason, and Wright consistently described developing The Division Bell by frequent jamming in DG's houseboat studio. BUT, as for A Momentary Lapse of Reason, Rick eventually said "Roger [Waters]'s cricticisms are fair. It's not a group album at all." THAT's the one I consider Gilmour's third solo album - Momentary Lapse. Written by DG and a host of outsiders. Sadly, I consider it better than Division Bell, in which Rick did more composing, TDB is just unlistenable, IMO.
