When that fat old sun in the sky is falling,
Summer evening birds are calling.
Summer's thunder time of year,
The sound of music in my ears.
Distant bells,
New mown grass smells so sweet.
By the river holding hands,
Roll me up and lay me down.
And if you sit,
Don't make a sound.
Pick your feet up off the ground.
And if you hear as the warm night falls
The silver sound from a time so strange,
Sing to me, sing to me.
When that fat old sun in the sky is falling,
Summer evening birds are calling.
Children's laughter in my ears,
The last sunlight disappears.

I want to thank you, guys. For some reason i had a file with the cymbaline version in this record and i love it. So i search real hard on the internet (youtube included) to find the rest of the record just to hear it. When i listen to fat old sun (this version) i knew in some way that i will ever need it in an easy place to get it and listen it every time i want. Five years ago (i think almost 6) i wouldn't even think the power that youtube will have in the next years, but maybe i knew that pink floyd will ever be there for me and anybody that need them. I will try to upload the rest of the record and i want to make sure that nothing of this belong to me, except some photos in the 'video'. It's a pink floyd song, recorded by them. Thanks to dave, rick, nick and roger to give us their great music, and specially to syd, for make this magic thing happened. And thank you all again for your comments. When I uploaded it, i have an speciffic feeling inside of me, and i think we share it in a way, so i really hope you enjoy this song as much as i do. And I really hope you can see it live by the hand of mister David Gilmour, who were in Chile a few days ago. Saludos

The fire refers to the blaze on December 4, 1971 when (according to Wikipedia) 'the Montreux Casino burned down during a concert by Frank Zappa after a fan had set the venue on fire with a flare gun'. The Floyd's performance obviously dates from before then, but I'm not sure from what exact gig this version of 'Fat Old Sun' originates. The Casino fire was memorably described in Deep Purple's 'Smoke on the Water'.

never another band come close to Pink Floyd, melodic and shattering lyrics...put down the Wall and Dark Side of the Moon. They'll always be there when needed. Pink Floyd will knock your socks off with Meddle, in the Shadow of Vesuvius, Atom Heart Mother, and more. Not all their greatest worknis on KZbin....wish I'd kept those albums... :( you. yes, you Pick up their older stuff, take psychedelic (safely) and take the journey to the center of the universe within... you'll be forever glad you did.

+Jennifer Mahar (INNU Salon) Yea Darkside is played incessantly, but it is still one of the(If not the) greatest rock album ever. I have to admit some of their older stuff is just a little to abstract and out there for me, I totally get why people love it, that's why Floyd is so great, they have something for everyone. I still absolutely love Darkside though and I always will. Take care and peace. By the way, I wish I knew where to get some good psychedelics nowadays. LOL :)

For years I constantly listened to Floyd before Dark side of the moon, magical music. But let's face it, Pink Floyd was selling high volumes of albums without any media publicity, they have sold more albums than the Beatles and the Beatles got tons of media attention while Floyd had none back then, yet Floyd still outdid the Beatles selling more albums than the Beatles to this day.. And Nobody in 1970 would have guessed that just 3 years later in 1973 these guys would record the greatest album of all-time. And the 2nd best selling album of all-time (Dark side of the moon only 2nd to Thriller, with Michael Jackson getting a million times more media exposure with MTV playing it nonstop for years and various media outlets that Pink Floyd didn't receive, but Pink Floyd didn't need the media and didn't need to put their faces on album covers and didn't do many interviews). If you gave the minimal amount of media exposure to Michael Jackson that Pink Floyd received, Dark side of the Moon would totally crush Thriller. Heck, all through the Wall and mid to later 1980's I didn't even know how Pink Floyd looked like but listened to their music all the time and loved it. They were so ridiculously mysterious and beautiful. Because we didn't have internet of course, and their music videos didn't show their faces, and not on their records and tapes, and they didn't do interviews on TV. Pink Floyd felt like they were everything (overwhelmingly) , bigger than life, and at the same time they were nothing, and same with the music, their music is Everything and nothing at the same time, no in-between at all, and it was so indescribably beautiful. Being so young I couldn't afford much so could only buy those small single records that had one song and a B side song. And even then it didn't show their faces as it just came with a white paper sleeve to protect the record. In the early 1980's the Floyd single 'Hey You" was the very first single record I purchased when I was 10 years old one day after school, back in the days when we had record stores all over the place. And I was hooked !! Didn't hear anything like it and it was so magical to me. From that moment on I was all about Rock and roll. Just a week later I bought more rock single records. Queen's "another one bites the dust" , Floyd's " Time, and Breathe, and Another Brick in the Wall ..And that was the end.. or rather, just the beginning ;-) . Thank you for everything Pink Floyd. Infinite Endless Eternal Gratitude < 3

Montreux has always been one of my very favorites as well, simply because of the sound quality back in the bootleg days before youtube. I read somewhere that was because CBS had set up professional equipment to record this and release it as a live album, but Dave's goofy laugh on this track around the two and half minute mark caused them to scrub it. Dave was known to burst out in laughter on many occasions during his vocal parts. I laugh too, sometimes, at how gloriously beautiful this is.
