The tour for the album 'Animals' was called 'In the Flesh' which is also the name of this song. It's also where Roger started coming with the idea for the concept of 'The Wall' when he spit on an audience member

how can I ever forget.... I saw them in '92 at Sun Devil Stadium while I a student at ASU. My girlfriend then, a hot blonde with a graduate degree made my night complete. However, the little house she lived in was known to have a scorpion or two hanging around, literally, so it always made reluctant to stay regardless of the rewards. Memorable !

I saw this show 2/27/80 in Nassau Col. It was fucking mindblowing! Anyhoo the comment about the guy talking at the beginning of the song. This character came out on the stage at the beginning of the show and the start of the second half of the show and announced to the crowd to NOT make any excess noise, applause, no photography etc.. While he spoke his apperance "aged" and his voice changed and then he dropped thru a hole (elevator) into the floor ! Fucking mindblowing!

@TheRockNRollFan Yes. At this point the whole concert is supposed to feel robotic and mechanical, a band just going through the motions. He's also doing what Hitler used to do at a Nazi rally, deliberately delaying his speech and working the crowd up into impatience, so that by the time he was ready to speak, they were fanatical listeners.

He said after Pink Floyd started playing more and more arenas, he began to see the strange parallels between rock stars and dictators. He struggled with weird feelings about he himself being in that position. His character in "The Wall" is just an exaggeration of those parallels.

How and why would Eric Fletcher Waters, a member of the British Air Force, get his hands on an authentic Nazi jacket? "My dearest Mary, "Please look after this jacket I took off a dead Nazi soldier. I thought little George might enjoy wearing it, when he's older, in case the "Nazi" look ever comes into fashion again (but we both know THAT won't happen, will it?) "I love you desperately and with all my heart, --"Fletch"

Don't give up hope. I'm sure Roger has a clause in his will stating that whoever gets his films and unreleased tapes (presumably son Harry), will be free to release them so long as it's done in high-grde audio/visual quality, and not some thrown-together thing to make big bucks. Hell Roger may get those tapes out before he dies. But first he's got his solo DSOtM to worry about (that IS happening) and then his solo Wall shows (which were somewhat better than PF's, from what I've seen of both.)

I loved that too. Never saw them up close enough to see how well the masks worked, but I'm certain from an audience-to-stage perspective, they were quite convincing. I wonder if the bassist was all, "I can play guitar, too; can't I be David instead of Roger?" wherupon Steve O'Rourke assured him there would be enough groupies to go around for all of them.

yea, i agree....but Floyd is one of those rare bands that people can not help arguing about...everyone interprets them in a personal way...which makes it brilliant!! So when i see it, i like to read it for others interpretation....a good one makes me go back and listen to an album like The Wall again with that perception in mind...and its almost new....thats all a bit cheesy....but true.

@EVHfan5001 hes not wearing the jacket. Pink Floyd would have a tribute band come out and play In the Flesh? and In the Flesh while wearing masks hence the lyrics "they sent us along as a surragate band" and "youll just have to claw your way through this disguise"
@Paddycake_Games15 жыл бұрын
@xXxGODSMACKxXx Um... no. During the Animals tour, they were playing for really huge audiences and Waters felt increasingly isolated, as if there was a disconnect between the performers and the audience... this came to a head one night when he spat in the face of a guy in the front row who was being a drunken ass. This gave him the idea of a wall between the band and the audience, exploring that led him to the ideas of self-imposed isolation, which spawned The Wall album and stage show.

No it didn't. I suggest you do some research and watch some documentaries. The Wall was never performed live, nor were any songs on The Wall performed live before the album came out. The evfent I am referring to which spawned the idea was during the "In the Flesh" tour which was promoting the Animals album.
