Pink Floyd - "The Wall Movie Soundtrack Album" Project

Here is my attempt to create The Wall Movie soundtrack in a form and with dynamics of music album - rather than straight and plain audio rip-and-cut from the movie and simple fading in and out (as most of The Wall Movie bootlegs are). Lots of edits were performed: careful fades, crossfades, sound panorame improving, inclusion or exclusion the non-musical film sounds, etc. Some volume alterations were also made - in the movie the quiet parts in some of the songs do sound too quiet (which is fine for the movie but not quite fine sonically)
In particular:
1. When The Tigers Broke Free - presented here in two parts (as in the movie). Part 1 is an edit of the "Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd" version (intro and the first verse) and the ending choir part is from the original movie audio source. Part 2 is an edit of the single version (the first verse is cut out).
2. I decided to include Hey You (Reel 13 version), though it wasn't used in the film. But as we can hear from the known raw video source special edit and remix was prepared for the film by James Guthrie, so it is a unique version and very much worth using.
3. We'll Meet Again, sung by Vera Lynn, was added before In The Flesh.
4. Stop - only the original song lyrics (more acted than sung by Bob Geldof) are featured here. All the other phrases (later found in Your Possible Pasts and The Moment of Clarity) were edited out - they are effective in the movie but not sound well in the sence of music album dynamics.
Hope you enjoy my efforts. To my ears it's sounds optimally good for non official release.

This has been beautifully done. As a teen, slightly drunk and very stoned sitting in the sunshine on a long driveway with friends, outside a factory unit, roller door wide open will the wall spinning on the turntable. Every decade or so it's worth a serious visit alongside the wall with a belly full of beer and ears wide open. Reminds you of what life could be, it could always be worse. So get up tomorrow and leave the walls behind.

Patrick Lena Wouldn’t say it’s better in a sense, but I guess it’s closer to what Roger wanted to convey. But also they needed to produce an album that would sell, and for that, they mastered it. The film is a sewerage masterpiece and so is this tbh

My man, this is the greatest online audio editing effort I've heard. The affects, from subtleties in some of the stereophonic affects, the putting together of different versions of songs from different areas, and overall how incredible it sounds for the audio. I've been busy tweeking your creation... it gave me an excellent base to work from. First, I just had to have the longer versions of the songs that were shortened... lots of cutting and pasting, to not lose the film versions attributes. Second, I don't like the song "We'll Meet Again" where it was... I prefer it to be at the very end, with an echo added (to make it sound dreamy and from another time) and faded out about a minute and a half in... making it kind of a hidden track. My favorite take away from all this, is "What Shall We Do Now?" Every time I watch the movie, I think "Where the hell is that song on the album?" Now, everything is right in the world!

We deal here with the OST, not the Ultimate Wall with every full and complete version of every song possible to stuck in. The Wall '79 is The Wall '79 and The Wall OST '82 is The Wall OST '82. There were differences and they must stay. To mix all together isn't necessary. I now have two versions and to my mind and taste they taste different and that is good and interesting. 2) To put We'll Meet Again at the end - someone has put it right: the symphonic version if Outside The Wall is the best and ultimate song for the ending credits. No need to add something further. And if you think, the theme of We'll Meet Again has something close to The Show Must Go On, something in the mood, some bitter irony here. Pink goes mad, he's Comfortably Numb - but that is not the end of the story, show must go on, we'll meet again. There is a Hate, but there is a Hope. Thank you for your attention.

Vinyl had limitations in terms of how many songs could be included on each side. As a result of that, the band was forced to remove some songs and adjust others for time. The songs in the movie better represent what the album was supposed to be. Had CD's existed in 1979, it's possible that we would have got the proper version instead.

Mother, Young Lust and Comfortably Numb are beautifully made in the movie. Mother with that pause and way more calm theme, Young Lust with the intensity and Pink's insane laughter and Comfortably Numb with that guitar solo that's accompannied by Pink screaming in pure agony.

I did this same thing from the DVD of the Wall however I didn't like how "What shall we do now" in the movie sounded. It sounds like the mix was too heavy on the vocals and the instruments didn't really hit as hard. So I spliced in the live version from the "Is there anybody out there?" CD set.

In my opinion that's more of "The Wall Anthology" style - to put in things from other different projects. There was an album, then tour, then movie. It's one big project but in three stages, they all sound differently. So my idea was to stay as close as possible to the third stage. Only trying to improve the flow of the music from the film as the soundtrack album. For example, Is There Anybody Out There - the movie version is too noisy with Pink moving objects on the floor. I could use the album version, right? But they are different recordings, even not remix, it was specially rerecorded for the film. And there's no way I could get rid of annoying sounds. But it's from that movie that I try to do the soundtrack album from. So it's got to stay as it is. Etc.

I started to do this a while back but, I ran out of patience, trying to separate what wasn't separate and splice together what needed to be, and it didn't sound right! Imho, it fits well, before all this fascist madness starts. Besides, it does has a very straight connection to the whole The Wall project. And it was played at the beginning of the original '80-'81 shows.

I first saw this movie in the early eighties, I bought it on DVD, long before pirates and it cost me the grand sum of £40! Roughly a weeks wages. The movie blew my mind.. At the time my father was very ill.. We cared for him at home. He also served in the Second World War, same as Rogers Father. My Dad came home, Rogers didn’t. Long before I was made aware this movie was partly about Rogers Father I used this movie as therapy during and after my Fathers death, why I have no idea.. My brother and I used to watch this... usually after too many beers.. TBH I’ve watched this film over 70 times and now 33 years later I’ve become a huge Floyd fan, just have happy memories of my Dad And learned to play the lead on Comfortably Numb. Funny where your journey takes you...

I think it wasn't done by group because there's nit much really new stuff to put out for a wide public - as a new product with PF name on it, as a "new and fresh" thing. For die hard fans and completists - yes. Couple of new rearrangements, two unreleased songs, couple resung songs. Most if all the other stuff - edits and not very much differently soundind remixes of album versions. Not much for a new release.

I only came across this on Vinyl in the mid Eddies add a record convention I have never seen it since this is absolutely amazing I wish I had bought it when I had my hands on it

As I stated I found this album in an import section at a record convention it did not have this cover to it it had a blue cover and it was music from the film and I assume it is this same recording and I passed it up at the time because they wanted $30 for it

@@patricklena9307,ah, now i understand. I know this 2lp bootleg, it's called The Film. Yes it's rather good edit from the movie audio track, only in mono, for some reason. I had it and I like it. Actually this project of mine i've made having this The Film boot in memory and wanting to make it much better and in stereo.

@@patricklena9307 You can still find vinyl copies on eBay, pretty pricey, as well as CD copies of it. I recently won an auction for the CD at $ 55. I had an original 80's vinyl one that got damaged, so it needed a replacement. Thanks to Schlomo for this project.

The first time I heard What Shall We Do Now was when I bought "Is there anybody out there? The Wall Live 1980-81 and it blew me the fuck away. I was like where in the fuck has this kick ass track been? (I hadn't seen the film up to that point) I always wished they would release a studio version of this track because the mix is a little off in the film. I mixed the Live version and the Film version together because the in the live version all the instruments are mixed louder and you can hear and feel the drums and bass. Technically speaking track 11. should be labeled "Empty Spaces/What Shall We Do Now."
