About Kirby:
Kirby Pábalan-Táyag Aráullo is a renowned Filipino Culture Bearer and currently the National Coordinator for Culture and Heritage for NAFCON (National Alliance for Filipino Concerns). He is a Dátû and Lakan by blood, a direct descendant of the last indigenous Paramount Kings of Luzon (of both Lakandúlâ of Tondo and Rája Matandá of Maynílâ), and of the anti-colonial revolutionary Katipuneros who fought for the liberation of the Philippines from colonialism. Kirby's upbringing exposed him to the contradicting worlds of traditional politics and grassroots activism.
With a keen interest in varying fields (such as history, culture, government, and human rights) and a strong commitment to serve the community, Kirby studied in some of the world’s most prestigious universities, such as Harvard, UC Davis, and Université catholique de Louvain. Kirby is also the Co-Founder of the Bulosan Center for Filipino Studies and author of the book “Black Lives & Brown Freedom: Untold Histories of War, Solidarity, & Genocide.” He is a visiting professor at various colleges in the Philippines and a research fellow with Sínúpan Singsing, an institute for indigenous advocacy and the study of Kapampángan language, history, and culture.
Dátû Kirby is an educator who is well-rooted in his culture and passionate about his heritage; he strives to decolonize Philippine history and democratize Ethnic Studies through knowledge and play.

Nakaka-amaze lang na may ganitong channel. Makes me more proud of my Kapampangan/Tagalog/Batanggenyo roots. UNITY IN DIVERSITY. Sana balang araw maging ganito tayo. Sa ganitong paraan din ako naniniwala na uunlad ang bansa natin.

I’ve been writing in indigenous Philippine scripts (#Baybayin & #Kulitan) since childhood. I first learned about Baybayin from my dad before the age of 7. On the other hand, my mom’s clan has been instrumental in keeping Kulitan (Sulat Kapampangan) alive through the centuries! 😊📜

Thank you! Love your energy! Fun fact: The Rivalry of The Naga's and Garuda stems from Vedic Culture. Also the way you spell Divata stems from the Sanskrit word Devata which has the same meaning.

Wow. I said this in another video, but we have mythical bird in my culture. It's name was Tupwurase. (I'm from Chuuk, Micronesia). This bird was so big that it can lift driftwood and humans. The thing about this bird was it'll get mad if you look at it. And when it's mad, it creates typhoons.

Like I said in many of my videos, I'm sharing from what I know best. Unlike other people, I don't claim to know everything which is why I am also cognizant of what I am sharing. I'm not gonna claim an expertise on something that I am not. I have always made it clear in many of my videod and lectures in various universities in the US, Europe, and in the Philippines, that the Mythologies and the Histories of the Philippines is very diverse. There are many perspectives one can look upon, that my perspectives are based on my cultural and educational background and years of research. Nobody really knows absolutely everything in all of these subjects. Which is also why I encourage people to share what they know from their own backgrounds and culture. I would rather consult and defer to people who actually know things better about a certain subject rather than pretend I know better than them. I share what I know best and what I can actually defend with years of research and cultural upbringing. I never said this typhoon mythology is all encompassing for the entire archipelago.

@@lakas_tama Kapampángan mythology still belongs within the umbrella of Philippine Mythologies. If someone made a video about Visayan or Tagalog Mythology, and also label it under Philippine Mythologies, I would not take offense. In fact, the mainstream narrative of Philippine Mythologies more often than not, focuses on Tagalog Mythology.
