Pioneer DJ XDJ-XZ Review

The Pioneer DJ XDJ-XZ is the newest Stand alone Rekordbox DJ setup that includes full sized jog wheels from the DDJ-1000 and a full DJM-900NXS2 mixer setup for club-standard familiarity. The XDJ-XZ truly feels like a real flagship Nexus setup without the hefty price tag.
The XDJ-XZ has the ability to playback files directly from the unit via USB drives without the need of a computer. When a computer is connected however, the XDJ-XZ can also be used as a full out controller for Rekordbox DJ, Virtual DJ or Serato DJ Pro. The Pioneer XDJ-XZ can only work with two channels in standalone mode but can unlock the other two channels using a computer with RDJ, VDJ, or SDJ. The XDJ-XZ can also work with all four channels when using two external XDJ or CDJ decks via RJ-45 Link cables.

Pioneer In my opinion makes the best controllers on the market for DJ's I recently bought the Prime 4 and that was a big mistake. I will definitely will buy the XDJ-XZ but I want to wait and see if they will upgrade it so it will be a fully complete standalone controller. Great video..

I hear people complain about the 4 Chanel Pioneer XZ not being able to beat Jump more than 8 beats, and there's no digital in for cdjs only RCA hook ups. If this is true do you know of a way a person could use Cdjs for digital and digital/analog turntables without compromising the sound quality?

I got mine last week. I LOVE IT! I prefer using it in standalone mode much more. I do miss decks 3 and 4 sometimes but I’ll grab a pair of CDJs soon.

Thanks for in-depth review Kareem. Muscle memory and familiarity are a top priority for me. As a DJ who spins out I want my mixes to happen effortlessly without thinking or searching for buttons. That’s the reason I stick with Pioneer. I do wish Pioneer would innovate more. However, I look at Dennon as Kia, they are innovating, proving their ground, reliability and resale. Pioneer is Toyota slow to innovate, strong reliability, proven and a strong resale value. Kareem as a watch guy as well, I also appreciate your watch game. Respect.

Thanks for the kind words on the review and the timepieces. I totally agree with you and as an old-school DJ, nothing can replace the feel you have when you are behind a quality DJ setup. The XDJ-XZ definitely gives you that presence that some others don't... I still like the Prime 4 a lot, but they need to make a few tweaks for the MK2 to get it up to par in other areas.

Hi, I have the xz, I always mix in the headphones with the cue, when the vocalist works with me his microphone annoys me, can I remove his microphone during this operation? as? Thank you

Yes you can. if you have the mic connected directly to the XZ. You need to press or activate only the headphone buttons for the channels that you want to hear. Do no use MASTER cue as that will give you everything including the mic sound. Only use the CUE section and make sure to NOT have the microphone headphone button ON.

Almost any controller can be used with Traktor if you are willing to map every button and feature yourself. That being said, this is NOT a good controller for Traktor... Use this with Rekordbox!

Denon is cooking up some interesting things, with the lc6000s and the prime 4 being two of their most unique pieces of gear. Still…they have to get the community approval. If pioneer keeps up with the high prices, denon will soon become the new club favorite. The thing is that it is hard to get long time pioneer djs get used to denon. This is the reason i’ve got the xz. The jog wheels, the knobs and the club set layout are a few things that made my decision final. Go by feel dude, if you are a mobile dj, get the prime with the zonal audio, but if you like to scratch and want a little club rig to practice on, get the xz, you’ll have no regrets. Cheers!

Nothing really compares the the NS7 III as that's the only real controller that has spinning jog wheels. I would take the NS7 III over anything else if I wanted a controller!

It's because they can't do sampler functions in all-in-one controllers right now... It's not yet possible for some reason. There has to be on-board storage to call the Samples whenever you need them no matter what USB or Hard Drive is connected...They also don't have tone-play

It's a shame people are still using antiquated "industry standard" tropes & clichés as reasons to purchase gear but then are disappointed when Pioneer doesn't implement features that Denon already has. It's amazing how folks don't even realize how hypocritical they sound when they contradict themselves..."I'll take the Pioneer > Denon because Denon doesn't feel like my turntables"... so why doesn't the same apply to CDJ 3K vs SC6000M? Certainly the M feels like a turntable more than a CDJ ever will.

This is my review which means I'm giving my personal view on the product and what I like about it and what I don't like about it... In this review, I like the fact that it has the full size of club standard gear and the jog wheels that Pioneer creates on their CDJ series is the BEST jog wheel you can get short of real vinyl. Since this is a controller/standalone style of device, it should also have other bells and whistles like the Denon series. Pioneer could have added more but didn't so that is what I don't like. The same does apply for the CDJ-3000 vs SC6000M in my mind. The 6000M would be superior to me because I like vinyl the most. I just haven't reviewed the Denon just yet to give my say so... Unfortunately, the Denon Prime 4 and Prime 2 have jog wheels that are no where near as good as the jog wheels on this. Jog wheels/Vinyl feel is the MOST important thing to me when I DJ and Pioneer has the better feel as it pertains to all in one or standalone units...

Come on man, you get 2 CDJ2000 NXS2 and a DJM900 NXS 2 in one machine for only $2100. If you need to buy them separately you have to spend around $ 5000 i guess. It's a cheap upgrade for a lot of people, small venues and bars imho. And i'm guessing, more equipment rentals will be placing them to instead of the expensive setups.

As a pioneer user for more than 20 years starting with a djm 500, then a djm600, then a djm900nxs2, standalone rx2 which I sold, I want to convey my sincere disappointment with the brand with the direction that pioneer is taking with its latest products , more specifically with the dj controllers, you are making the client take as an option other brands that were behind regarding pioneer and among them me. You are making controllers that are missing many things, or things that a specific model lacks, you put it in another, and that other lacks what the previous one has, I do not know if I explain myself well. And all this you do is not to lose sales of your star product which is cdj2000nxs2 which is at an exorbitant price. Most of us are disgusted with the xdj xz which you advertise is 4 channels, but then with usb they can only use 2, you don't put usb 3.0, the truth is that since they did not give me one I would not buy anything from pioneer since you are lagging behind, for example with denon who is bringing out products that are up to these times, I just wanted to convey my most sincere opinion on behalf of many pioneer users around the world. Put the batteries and make a standalone of 4 channels by usb, with a screen in condition, with a resolution in condition and with all the options that a controller must offer: hardness of jog wheel, 4 channels BY usb, usb 3.0, .FLAC and a long ect. Estais haciendo controladoras que les faltan muchas cosas, o cosas que les falta a un modelo en concreto lo poneis en otra, y esa otra carece lo que tiene la anterior, no se si me explico bien. Y todo esto que haceis es para no perder ventas de vuestro producto estrella que es el cdj2000nxs2 que esta a un precio desorbitado. La mayoria estamos disgustados con la xdj xz la cual publicitais que es de 4 canales, pero luego con usb solo de pueden usar 2, no poneis usb 3.0, la verdad es que como no me regalasen una no volveria a comprar nada de pioneer ya que os estais quedando rezagados por ejemplo con denon que esta sacando unos productos a la altura de estos tiempos, solo queria transmitirles mi mas sincera opinion en nombre de muchos usuarios de pioneer de todo el mundo.
