Great work! I too would replace Old transistors. People don’t understand it’s like having four old tires and one goes out. Changing it’ll get you down the road but it ain’t gonna last long. Excited for the next one.

I see it all too often. One transistor replaced in a parallel bank may work in specific low current applications but not so much in high current applications.

I just bought the same amp of off FB market. The seller said it worked and I had no way to test it at the time. Well it didn't work and the positive terminal sparked when nothing was on. It fried the positive wire. So I got some 6AWGC wire. Wire didn't get hot but all 3 fuses blew. Power mosfets all checked ok. The end pree amp tested bad. But I'm thinking the diode is bad. Because in circuit at times it would show a short and sometimes it doesn't. The spark on the positive terminal without even powering on. Just leads me to believe the diode is allowing current to flow backwards causing the spark. Circuit board is clean. No discoloration or burn marks.

I have this amp, my transistors on the power supply are all popped. Theoretically, if I replace with the same part I should be good, or are the other things in line that may have blown first?
@ellensburgamplifier
@ellensburgamplifier 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the channel support. There are a few reasons for the power supply to fail and one that is most common is a shorted output. This overloads the power supply causing the transistors to fail. Another is reverse polarity, just as damaging but less common. Under-voltage and heat would be the next runner up. I would check for low resistance values on the output transistors (gate to source) and let me know what you find.

I have the same Amp with Red Light and a beep sound on when turned on. Is that the same problem or something else?
@ellensburgamplifier
@ellensburgamplifier 2 жыл бұрын
It could be a lot of common things. Does the blue light try to come on at all before the red light? Could be a bad power supply or output section. Now the "beep" is not normal but could be a high frequency going through the output inductor before shutting down.

If it is not a loose solder joint, then it could be a failing LED but they tend to fail in a different way. I would suspect a bad solder joint or leaking transistor that is driving it.

Should i attempt to fix or just leave it? as the amp is fully working and thinking if it went into protection the red light would come on if any problems, would you say its a soldered joint close to the led? Or would it be one of the amplifying transistors that fix to the metal body? Thanks for replying very greatfull 😃
@ellensburgamplifier
@ellensburgamplifier 2 жыл бұрын
@@coregts3504 You can leave it if you choose to do so. Eventually it will not come on at all. It may be at the LED solder pads or it can be any one of the SMD components for that circuit. The transistors along the sides are just for power which the LED is not connected to.

I've got this exact same amp. Mine will work on startup, then stop pushing sound to the subwoofer after about 5 minutes or so. The power on the amp stays on, no protect mode, constant blue power light even when the bass/sound drops out. I've checked signal wire, which is constant when the truck/stereo is turned on. Power wire and ground wire is also good. I figured if those were bad, the amp would go into Protect Mode. I tested my subwoofer with another amplifier and it's still working great. Could you point me in a direction of where to start on the amp board itself? It seems to me that something is failing within a component that plays a role in the sound output.

Thanks in advance.
@ellensburgamplifier
@ellensburgamplifier 4 ай бұрын
@@livebig6414 I will safely assume that the 1.5 ohms load across a bridged channel is too low for that amp. If I remember right about the 4 channel amps, each channel is rated 1-ohm minimum stereo (model dependent) making it 2-ohm minimum bridged. This will be the heat issue. As for the glue, I always recommend Gorilia Glue Clear Grip or E6000 depending on the application. The E6000 is much thinner but can get down into windings better.

I used another power amp for testing, all components were working fine without problem. What do you think the possible reason of this issue? thanks for your comments.
@ellensburgamplifier

Blue light with no sound is either bad output transistors, bad drive IC, bad pre-amp. You need a scope to see if you have any switching at the output transistors if there are no shorts or low ohm values.

Hi, thanks for good explanation. I have the same amp, after 3 years of using it, I changed the subwoofer and by accident short the speaker wires, and I think the same transistor for mine has been broken. The question is, there ar 6 of them, the top nr is for all of them IRFB4227, but three of them has second P538P and three P542P. I search on ebay from top part nr, but many of them the second part nr are different, it's safe to use them?
@ellensburgamplifier

The bottom numbers are the date code. I would make sure for good practice that the parallel set of three is the same. Or if you can get all six the same that would be easier. A current-based issue. Depending on the severity of the output short, you may also want to check the TO-92 drivers and possibly even the drive IC. Hi, I am hoping that you can assist me in diagnosing my 5 channel Pioneer Amp. GM-D9605. The Amp. was playing fine and all of a sudden, the front speakers started acting up. When the car is turned on, there are strong statics coming out of the front speakers without having to turn the radio on. When I turn the radio on, the subwoofer and rear speakers work fine. However, the static continues in the front speakers. The left front does have sound and static but the right front does not have sound, only static. When I switch the front speaker wires, the driver side goes quiet while the front right starts playing which suggests the speakers are not the problem. I probed the transistors/mofset, not sure the difference. I found 1602CT and 1602CTR top, and 1602CT and 1602CTR bottom or (opposite sides) reading positive to a continuity test. I thought that was the problem so I replaced them. Only to find the new ones behaving the same way. When I tested both the new ones and original ones out of the board, all tested negative for continuity. So, they only test positive when attached to the board. I soldered back the original mofsets since they seem to be fine. When I disconnect the front speaker wires, the Amp. Plays as if nothing is wrong with it, except that there is no sound from the front speakers obviously. I am therefore stuck. I am not an amp. Tech. Just trying to repair it as I do on many of my electronics. Hope this gives you some idea of what might be going on with the amp. This is the best Amp. I have ever had, sound-wise. Any suggestion as far as what else to look for? Thank you.

I have not had a 9605 in before but I am suspecting there to be two IC's that will be driving the 4 channels. One channel will be defective at the IC. The 4 inductors is a sign of this type of setup. The IC's could be underneath as I don't have any pictures of the board to know where to direct you to look. The CT and CTR TO220's are rectifiers. You will show a short because they are connected to the secondary windings of the transformer. The reading you are seeing are correct.

I would just like to ask about one thing in your movies, when it comes to this model you have resistance 4.7 everywhere I have 4.6 is it normal? Many thanks

Yes, you will have a tolerance value with almost any electronic component. The key is looking to see if any are substantially off.

Is the remote not turning it on? I don't have a 9601 in but I do have a 8601 that may be the same. You will have to follow the remote circuit to the first transistor. You may have a failed remote circuit depending on what the original fault was.

@@ellensburgamplifierpioneer 9601 hav ability to turn on with 12v and ground connection with rca cables running through music system of car only, this amo doesn't need to connect remote wire connect with 12v. But the issue is my automatic turn on sensing with RCA cables is not working, i need that solution. Please ??

Does every transistor supposed to be the same
@ellensburgamplifier
@ellensburgamplifier Жыл бұрын
The rule of thumb is every transistor in a parallel configuration should be the same. For instance 4 "push" and 4 "pull" transistors for a transformer would be 4 transistors in parallel for each push, and pull group.

If you are wanting to send it in then www.ellensburgamplifier.com/get-a-quote is the best way to get ahold of me for this. If you are wanting to fix it yourself then the first question is do you have a scope?

I would love to be able to fix it myself but I’m sure its way above my skillet 😔 I don’t have access to a scope but I would be more than willing to learn how. Very curious what a typical repair job would cost me

(If you have a scope) Do the output transistors have the high side and low side switching on the gates? If so is there any modulation as you increase gain or change frequency?

Can I send u an amp to repair
@ellensburgamplifier
@ellensburgamplifier Жыл бұрын
Sure can. The first step is to submit the service request form at www.ellensburgamplifier.com/request-a-quote and I would also check to see if it is on the list of amps I may not service at www.ellensburgamplifier.com/FAQS
