Pipe Welding-A Day in the Life-We Start Early

oh boy a day in the life of a rig welder. In todays episode it was slow. the job is coming to an end and parts have not shown up yet for the next project. So that being said this day was super slow. No welding no going fast. just a lot of cutting pipe pups. So lets break the day down a little. We start early. The alarms go off at 2:30 in the morning. We are on the road about 3:00 a.m. and jogging by 3:30 I try every morning to get in a 3 mile run and a lift, next is shower and meal prep for the day. Kiss the wife goodbye and leave for work. When we get to work we go into our first saftey meeting and then we go into a saftey tailgate meeting. after that on to filling out JSA job saftey annalises. then its on to cutting pups and finishing the day out. Next we head home and eat dinner then sit down and work on replying back to everyone I can. Wash,rinse,REPEAT!!!

Pretty funny the first time you said "talk and communicate" your honey didn't look like she was in the mood to say anything you wanted to hear, and before you finished saying 'communicate' you were walking back in from outside like she threw your butt out!😂😂 I don't know if you edited that purposely or not, but either way, it was great! hes a superintendant not a welder. Usually operators or foremans will drive trucks like that. Really good looking truck though.

Im wondering why guys put the gas bottle rack right behind the back window and the welder behind that, more in the middle of the bed. I'm planning on buildin a welding bed and had figured on putting the welder right behind the rear window and the bottle rack just behind the welder. My trucks a 4 door long bed so I'm wondering if they do that to get the weight off the front axle?

I do it for looks. My bottle rack was supposed to be laying down flat but with that new miller it wasnt going to happen. Dave likes to run his machine right up next to his cab. I would think it would help quite a bit to put that weight over the axle as well.

It would run really good on everything but the SA 200 I would imagine.

Another question for you brother. Way off the topic of this post. What are your thoughts on the Lincoln 305g? Thinking of getting one as a starter for pipe. Once I land a helper job I'm wanting a machine so I can practice (don't like using other people's things. I'm weird like that) and possibly becoming a pipeline welder with it. Till I can get a better machine of course

Michael great question. I dont know why but most companies will not let you test with a ranger. I would stick to SA 200 or something like that. I dont know the reaason why but I would hate for you to spend that kind of money on something they probably are not going to let you test with.

I did not the company provide them. they are 8' wide 12' long i think 8' tall Im not a 100% on the height.

Those would be the Tom Water Pipliners. They fit with the pancake hoods without requiring any modifications to the eye box. I believe you can get 2 different styles that will fit the pancake. Def worth every penny.
