@Tinker18375 жыл бұрын
I liked the way the old V8 sounded... but that's about where the likes ended. They might not look like much from outside, but you crawl underneath & things become apparent!
@PatrickBaptist5 жыл бұрын
I had a 02 year D2, little ol 4.oh V8. It atleast didn't strand me till I blew the engine, thought the trans would go first but neah the engine had enough after I froze it solid with just water for coolant in the winter, thawed it out with hot water and went on down the road and the rad froze on it because it was so cold and I had no clue the rad hose came off, funny thing is that it snapped the cam. Blam headgasket had went out at around 70k miles or something like that, was leaking oil before 40k... It made it to close to 150k before it was over, but I was VERY hard on the poor thing, 4" lift and 38s. Not much on power but it sure never let me down off road, going places that my jeep couldn't get into (before I lifted and put tires on the rover, just stock). I'd love to have another but my 5th child is on the way and they aren't big enough for my needs..... I just don't have the money for a toy and that's how I view them in my situation. I brought my first child home in my rover, I wish I'd never let it go.... Ohh well. Electronics were an outright joke on top of it, when I bought it it was 2 years used with only 17k on the clock, blame thing went through gas like it was nothing, put cheap fuel in it and you get to hear it knock like crazy, back when gas was over $3 a gallon and it was getting about 5-8MPG depending on how my foot was feeling. If I didn't manually shift the auto it would slam into every gear and shudder hard over it, this went on for a good 50k miles, I overheated the trans a few times over a leak in the cooler that I was too lazy to fix LOL. How that slush box made it that far is beyond me, I'm notorious for friggin up an automatic unless it's an Allison. Anyways sorry for the long blabbery, I really have enjoyed watching, thanks for sharing!

@@Tinker1837 No problem man. So i have a question: would having the internals balanced decrease engine noise in addition to harmonics or are the two things separate of each other whereby resucing harmonics is it's own thing and engine noise another? I'm interested in swapping a 5.9 12v into something and was mildy curious if it would work on a noisier engine especially the 4bt
@Tinker18375 жыл бұрын
Separate, & while I think a "blueprint & balance" could help a little with vibrations inherent in the 4-cylinder, but I don't think it'll help with the clatter associated with any mechanical diesel. That being said, the 6-cylinder is smooth as butter in comparison to the 4BT, as with most straight 6 engines.
@02honeydew5 жыл бұрын
@@Tinker1837 Oh alright thanks for the reply. Yeah now that you say it, it makes sense that most of the noise from a 4BT would be because it's fully mechanical Idk why I couldn't handle thinking of that lol.

Ahhh yes, just completed my elaborate custom turbo diesel engine conversion on my prized possession truck. Time to close the hood and.... Wait shit, the engine is outside of the hood? Crap.
@Tinker18375 жыл бұрын
Hoods are overrated ...not the first engine swap I've done that didn't fit under it's stock hood, ha! I've got a cool idea for the hood. Might be a bit of a pain in the ass since the hood's aluminum, but hell with it... more fabricobbling!

@@bradjd6957 Not having all that MIG spatter to deal with would be fantastic, & yeah that fine finish work ability seems well worth a little extra time & preparation.
