What people don’t know is that the original Disneyland Pirates of Caribbean in Anaheim takes place outside the park berm. The first drop at the beginning of the ride is when you go under the railroad tracks at the park and into the show building and then back up the hill under the park’s railroad tracks and into the loading dock towards the end of the ride.

Correction the railroad track aint over the first drop its over the cave twixt the Cave of gold and the pirate ship which is in the show building

I was there when it opened! The 60's was the best time at D land... My friends and I would spend hours on Tom Sawyers Island getting into all sorts of trouble... I can't count how many times we heard... "Hey... you can't go there!" "Hey... you can't do that!" We were 7 years old, fast and knew where all the hiding places were...lol

Disneylands Pirates ride is so much better than WDWs, I rode it all by myself 3 times on my last visit. I thought the addition of Capt. jack Sparrow would ruin the ride but it did not.

As a child DL was our annual family vacation, and it was tradition that the very first ride we went on was always Pirates...OR, as I pronounced it as a kid..."Carrots of the Pirabean" I used to be terrified and scream/cry as we got on and all the way up through the dips....and I cannot tell you how angry and confused I was at the fact that everyone seemed to laugh when I would cry "I don't wanna go on Carrots of the Pirabean!!" Haven't been in about 6 years now and oh lordy...I miss that smell!! x)

My favorite animal is right when you enter the room with the three singing pirates. To the right there is a cat in the shadows, watching everyone pass by. I remember the first time I saw it and I had to ride it a few times to convince myself it was there because it used to be so dark. Now there is a little more light and easier to see.

Always go on pirates when I go to Disneyland. My grandfather was a sound engineer on the ride. Also they have a special button to stop the fire effect on the ride in case of a real fire so the fire department knows where the real fire is.

february and september are the slowest months by far. go on a tuesday or wednesday in those months and thats the best chance you'll have for low crowds

But HOW do they do the skeleton to human effect? On one side, you see the skeleton and you can see the wall on the other side. Past the rope right in front of his face, he changes, and if you look closely, it appears the human body goes all the way around the skeleton. Basically, the effect looks impossible, and I'm dying to know how they do it.
