I fitted a set of Angel GT2’s to my BMW RS just before going on a tour. Ended up riding through a absolute torrential storm. At one one point I hit a standing puddle of water going way to fast (100mph). The force of the water knocked both my feet off the foot rests. The bike did not even twitch. I think the only thing that saved me was the excellent wet weather performance of the Angel GT2’s. I swear by them. And as the author of this video says, their grip is phenomenal when the going gets fast. I run the Scorpion 2’s on my Triumph Explorer, and love them equally as much.

Excellent analysis! I can assure you that the more rounded shape of the Angel GT II allows for greater angle in curves. The proof of this is that you reached the bike's tilt limit, and the tire had not yet reached its limit, unlike the Scorpion Trail II, which reached its limit along with the bike. Thank you for the content. It helped me to choose the Angel GT II for my bike. Cheers from Brasil!

2013 Multi Pikes Peak. I run the Michelin Road 5's. The wet weather performance is great and the outer edges are basically slicks and if you are over that far you need as much surface contact as possible with out grooves and drainage sipes. Great tyres.

It's not the friction that heats up the tyre for the most part, it's the distortion, the constant moving contact patch area. That's why braking and accelerating works, you're distorting the tyre more. Great review, cool you mentioned the difference in shape, the rounder and flatter tyre type. I actually like the flatter type as well, doesn't have the most lean angle but it really inspires confidence. Who needs extreme lean angles on the road anyway :)

Great video thanks . I ride an fjr1300 and have tried most of the sport touring tyres all in the gt version , Michelin road 5 , metzeler roadtec 01 , angel gts and currently have the Dunlop road smart 4 . I’ve noticed the profiles on all the tyres differ and the subsequent edge wear .from memory I think the angels gt 2s had a slightly flatter profile . Just did a 4000km tour down in tassie on the dunlops and was really impressed on the lean angles on wet roads . I think the tyre technology is simply amazing now on all the sport touring tyres and those sphincter tightening moments we all have at some stage in the wet are probably not justified .

I loved my Multistrada 1260S original Scorpion Trail II tires on pavement and gravel. After 7000 mi I needed to replace them. The shop only had Angel GTII to fit. I had really liked Angel GT on other motorcycles; so, I was happy to buy them. After 400 mi I got rid of them, and went back to the Scorpion Trail II. The Angel GT wobbled on grooved pavement and in strong wind possibly because of the radial grooves. I just replaced my second set of Scorpion II for Michelin Road 6 GT to see if I could get longer life, because I like to take long trips and can't replace tires during the trip. I never tried the Angel GT II on gravel, but I suspect they would not perform nearly as good as the Scorpion Trail II. I can't say that the Michelin did any better in very twisty roads than the Scorpion Trail II. I only have about 2700 mi on the Michelin tires. I found that Michelin Power tires cupped on the front tire on my 2017 SuperSport. I hope the Road 6 will not.

Hi Carl! In follow-up of my latest comment now I can honoustly say how glad, no thrilled I am about mounting the Pirelli GT-2's on my 2021 KTM 1290 SAS. Two track days (one very wet) and a short holiday in the German Pfalzerwald and French North Vosges later I've experienced the tremendous grip and with that the trust in riding with these tyres. The short holiday was with passenger (like 85% of my time riding is with my wife on the backseat) and even with that and pretty high lean angle the tyres are always there, it's almost ridiculous! I did lower the pressure in the rear tyre with .2 bar cold (now 2.7 cold), maybe I'll try the front too but so far this works fine for me. So thanks again for your review!

Great tyre review and very interesting, well done. Sounds like the GT2’s are great for wet weather! However, I think the reason you are touching your pegs down, has much more to do with the profile of the GT2 compared to the Trail 2. The profile is changing the point on the bike which comes into contact with the ground. I think maybe the profile of the Trail2 means you have to lean further than the GT2’s, this could also be the reason Ducati has the Trail2 as it’s preferred tyre.
@justthewayitis2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rick, welcome to the channel and thank you for the feedback. Yes you could be right about the shape / profile having a greater effect on lean angle than the actual compound. I can honestly say these are the best tyres i have used touring in wet conditions, the grip was fantastic. I only got 8000km out of mine before replacement, maybe running to low a pressure as the bike was fully packed one up. Going again in three weeks so will try a little higher pressure in both, any thoughts? Great review

Hi Stephan good morning You haven’t mentioned wear front vs rear and without looking at the tyres it’s very hard to advise. But I tried raising the front from 36 psi but in doing so it reduced feel so went back to standard setting. On the rear, on tour, loaded up I ran 44/45 psi which helped maintain tyre shape and hence feel and wear. Agree with you, GT2 is amazing in the wet 👍 Have a great trip 🙋🏻♂️ Carl

Thanks Paul.

Hi Paul, both would work for your RSV, the GT2 would be a slightly more neutral handling tyre with great wear mileage and amazing wet grip, the R6 would be a quicker steering tyre and would drop into the corners quicker than the GT2, but the GT 2 might feel more stable once leaned over. Both are excellent 👍 Both if you’re not a knee down rider the GT2 would probably be my choice, it’s still extremely capable but just a little more natural in the way it drops into the curves. But, you might also find some good advice on the RSV forums they are going to have more experience than me with tyre choice for your bike. Let me know what you decide Carl

Thanks for explaining. I always loved the Angel GT1, (because they're cheaper, and gave me all the confidence and grip I needed) but for now I've mounted the GT2. (because there we're no more GT1 in stock, lol) What I always wondered, is how you can feel or communicate with the tyres. In my car I can feel/hear that I am on the edge of the grip and they begin to slide, but on my bike I don't hear or feel it. I just have to trust them ;-) Can you please try to explain what you feel for feedback and that you're on the edge of grip. Thanks in advance.

The tyres has already squared by the previous owner but I feel confident in any road when I pressure them. Now I am searching to replace them and I am between Pirelli angel gt 2 and Michelin road 6. I am mostly touring biker, some times with 2nd passengers and 3 luggages. But also in twisty road I like to ride sporty and I want to pressure the bike. I am wondering if they behave as sporty tyres because of the touring shape as you said. Because the Michelin road 6 they have more sporty shape as you said. Hello Mrmotoraki and welcome to the channel. Having had Road 5 and GT2, (but on different bikes) my thoughts are. Both are brilliant and offer amazing performance. The GT2 for me was much better in the wet but... in the dry it's very close and possibly the Road 6 has the advantage. But durability probably goes to the GT2. It's a hard choice between them, both are excellent tyres. For me based on all year riding and a long lasting tyre I would choose the GT2. But you might have different yearly requirements. Im looking at gtIIs but am curious have you noticed them tramlining on grooved pavements... heard they wobble a lot and try to weave to follow rain grooves in road?
@justthewayitis9 ай бұрын
Hi Phillip, I have heard that before but mine were perfectly fine and didn’t notice that at all. They were simply brilliant tyres especially in the rain. I ride all year and found them very good indeed. Plenty of grip and feel. Mine were fitted to a 2013 Multistrada. Carl

Great review. Thanks for sharing those insights. How does the trail 2 fair on gravel roads. I do 90% tarmac, but do visit local farmers who are only accessible on gravel roads. From what you said I'm assuming the GT2 is not the right choice for me, or am I wrong. I don't speed, I stick to max 120km/hr on tar and max 80 on gravel. Oh and I ride a 1150GS. (Wish I could afford a Multistrada😭)
@justthewayitis2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, great question, the Scorpion Trail 2, is great for exactly that and works great on dry gravel roads considering it's a road 90% focused tyre. The GT2 is not a good choice for that type of riding. The other tyre to look at is the Metzeler Tourance Next 2, ( pirelli and metzeler are the same company) both tyres are very good, you dont mention the year of your 1150gs but its probably 110/80/19 front and 150/70/17 rear so these sizes are available in both styles. I was recently at a tyre testing facility and saw what the Tourance Next 2 can do. Both very nice tyres. Do come back and let me know which you install on your GS. Beat wishes Carl

@@justthewayitis Thank you for the prompt response. The tyre sizes were spot on for my '03. Will def look at those recommendations. The other tyre I heard a lot of good things about is the Michelin Annakee Adventure. I am trying to get a balance between smooth, relatively quiet on tarmac, with good grip specially if it rains, and only occasional gravel use.
@justthewayitis2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, I actually have the Anakee adventure tyres on my current GS (you can find the complete series on my channel) and they are OK tyres, Michelin say they are 90/10 tyres but they are much more capable of road than that rating says. They are probably 75/25 tyres. I will have a full review of these later in the year, but from what you have shared about your riding requirements. The Pirelli and Metzeler are probably better suited. The one other tyre is the ContiTrailAttack 3 tyre which is extremely popular here in Germany, and ALL of my GS friends have these tyres fitted to their bikes. But that is more to do with the brand being German but it's still a great tyre. You now have lots of choices... smile. Carl

Dear Carl, would anything be different for a Multistrada 1100s? I do not have experience with any pirelli, my Mts had Metzeler sportec 7 RR.
@justthewayitis Жыл бұрын
Hi Nico, I think the M7 RR came out in 2015 so things have moved on a lot since then, but it was a good tyre. The GT2 if it’s available in those sizes would be a great tyre. Pirelli and Metzeler are the same company really and share compounds and technology. You could also check out feedback on the 1100 forums for more options. Best wishes Carl

First of all, thank you for this video, it is excellent. Second, and maybe if you can help, i have a Benelli TRK502 (heavy bike hehehe for 500cc 220kg), i made big trips with 3 cases and passenger however sometimes i miss a little bit light off road just for fun and explore new landscapes, the scorpion trail 2 is a good option to try or angel gt2 because i made big trips (2000kms or more). thanks for help !

Hi Pedro, GT2 for better mileage and last longer than ST2, but if want off road to, maybe the Michelin Anakee Adventure. ST2 and GT2 are both very good tyres, ST2 is better on gravel than GT2 which 100% road. Carl

At 6:29 when you say that in Germany when you fit a tyre that was not originally approved for your motorbike you have to carry an approval document. Do you mean a different size other than the one homologated for your bike or just a different tyre model? A different size is illegal in the entire EU unless you have an approval document, a different tyre model made at the same size is fine. Can you get an approval for a different tyre size on your bike from a tyre manufacturer? For example I want to put road 6s on my 390 adv but it wears 100/90 r19-130/80 r17 stock sizes, and Michelin offers 110/80 r19-140/70 r17. Do you think I can email them to ask for an approval document for the latter sizes?
@justthewayitis Жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, when I made that video Pirelli did not have the EU approval document saying it (GT2) has been tested and approved for my multistrada. In the standard size. I called them (Pirelli) in Germany and they said there had been a delay in receiving the paperwork but the actual testing had been completed and passed. I was asked to wait a few weeks and call back, which I did and was then sent the appropriate pdf with type approval. Which we are required to carry with us here in Germany and I then ordered and fitted the GT2 on my bike. No you can’t as you mentioned fit different size tyres unless it’s approved and the tyre size is added to our owners bike paperwork. I hope you find a nice tyre for your 390 adventure, they are great bikes. Best wishes Carl

@@justthewayitis I understand, thank you for the rapid and detailed reply! I thought that perhaps you could get an approval document for a different tyre size from the manufacturer but it turns out I misunderstood the rigid German legislation.

No problem ! But it’s worth ringing Michelin and talking to them about the tyre options for your bike, they are (certainly in the uk) extremely friendly and helpful Tony Charlton is the technical manager for 2 wheel products and he can give you great advice. Say hello from me ✌️ Regards Carl

@justthewayitis2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, probably the GT2 in both cases, its just that the Scorpion offers a great deal of feel on the edge of the tyre which I really enjoy. Both are very good. In the wet the GT2 is simply incredible. Best wishes Carl

Hi Ian it really depends on the type of riding you do, if your taking your Triumph on an occasional green lane or gravel road, then probably the ST2, but if its 100% on road, then the GT2 is a great tyre. Carl

Basicaly the shape of tyre and tread pattern and compound. Pirelli have a good web site with lots of information about the difference between all their tyres and which ones to choose. Maybe go and have look and read. Lots of information there. Carl

Angel GT2 is quite slippy at the edge, also the profile is too flat, totally unlike the sharper profile of Rosso Corsas. Center is wearing like iron, shoulder is getting pretty ate up already.

A few hints: You change subject lines fast and furious. Try slowing down your speech and stick to one subject line for a longer discussion. Don’t mix ride stories with technical discussion. You talk too fast, slow down your speech. Your garage has a strong echo, install some sound absorption panels to stop the echoing.
@justthewayitis2 жыл бұрын
Hello Michael thank you for your feedback. Yes I will try to slow down, but I have been told my videos are already to long....smile. I mixed technical with a biking story to help viewers understand just how capable the Angel GT II is in the rain. As for the slight echo in my garage, I am trying my best to work with what I have available. Please remember I dont get paid or earn anything from making these videos, this is just a hobby for me... a way to help other riders and owners. Perhaps this might change in a few years if the channel grows and we get a sponsor... then I could invest in improving production. Best wishes Carl and have a great weekend.
