Joshua Powell Broken dreams so grand, sing of his final stand, long live Carolus Brought by soldiers hand, back to the fatherland, long live Carolus Rex I agree That's a pretty sad song, but nowhere near this level. The 30 years war, some casualties range the death toll up to 14 million which was something like 3% o fthe worlds population. The only thing that would even come close to this was ww1 some 400 years later which claimed 17 million lives and this lasted 30 years. and Germany was completely wrecked to the core, and it wouldn't be this badly destroyed again until ww2. The Swedish army alone destroyed 2000 castes, 18,000 villages and 1,500 towns in Germany, one-third of all German towns. and in the end, what did it achieve? Nothing! No one really won it. After immense suffering and loss, things were much the same at the end of the war as they had been at the beginning. It did establish that Protestantism would survive in Germany, and that Germany would not be pulled together as a single modern kingdom until the 19th century. As i said earlier, much like ww1 it served no real purpose, They could have ended as a small brawl between two small nations but thanks to foreign interventions broke out to be the biggest conflict the world had ever seen. In ww1 Austria had even made it clear that they were not after lands in all of this, and just wanted to punish Serbia for assassinating their emperor, they wanted to take the Capital, call it a victory and march home, Germany, Russia and Britain made it into a world war. world war two is not nearly as sad in my opinion that served a fundamental purpose as too stop the spread of fascism and Germany's expansions.

Sabaton has made a few songs with the anti war sentiment like Price of a Mile. But this one encapsulates not just the horror of war, but the sheer weight of war and the fallout of such violence. This song may highlight the European Thirty Years War, but it can apply to any war with its message of the true damage. My favorite part of the song is towards the end when the different voices speak, “When they face death they’re all alike. No right or wrong, rich or poor, no matter who they served before. Good or bad, they’re all the same. Rest side by side now...” This truly exemplary of the human aspect of war. No matter how far we advance, so long as people end up dead, wars will always be fought by people... on both sides...

When i hear refrain i literally see this: Swedish soldiers slowly come from the mist, wounded, with stripped clothes and broken armor. They barely walk, making step by step. There are only few of them, and they are walking straight to rising sun. Mist starts to blow away, uncovering a trail of blood and death, fallen Swedes and their enemies, resting side by side. Few remaining soldiers stand in sunlight, looking up at the sun, covering their eyes. Ahead of them stay their foes, exually tired and decimated. two groups walk to each other and soldiers of both sides drop their guns, hug each other, crying. They sit in the grass, mourning their fallen comrades and looking around thinking "who could let this happen?" Sorry i had to write this.

Alexis A. True enough... still, violence exist, because it is in the human nature to be violent. We have always wanted more, because more food, more land, more weapons, more muscles once meant (and, in some way, still means) higher chances of surviving. This mentality only manifests itself in our behaviour when we are put into extreme situations ( street fights, hunger, extended abuse). And the problem is that society puts us in a lot of extreme situations. From the very beginning we are stoped from pursuing what we really want, in order to learn how to behave in society. We are taken away from our pleasure sources and forced to face reality. And the ways society does this is by destroying any oposition." You don't want a boring job inside a cubical? Good for you, then go on the streets and die." "You don't want to go to college to learn to organize yourself to become a "perfect citizen? Good for you, then good luck geting employed. ". "Society thinks this. Oh, you think otherwise? Well, i am sorry, but i will have to arrest you". We are forced to think that our ideas are bad, and that the ideas of society are good, because thinking otherwise can have traumatic consequences. And then, to make matters worse, we start convincing ourselves that our ideas were bad, so that we won't have to deal with the idea that our freedom is destroyed and risk to rise up in a moment of fury, only to get stomped on. But, these ideas are gone only from the concious mind, as they remain active in the subconcious. This is why the concious will get in conflict with the subconcious and we will start developing an unrelenting fury.... a fury directed to the system, but because we cannot target the sistem, we choose to target something else. That's why humans are so violent in this era. And violence doesn't necesarely mean to hit somebody in the face, and break their nose; it can also mean to exploit the weak, to destroy somebody's life just for a little mistake, to harm a little animal or freaking out for a good for nothing reason.... and, if the system is persuasive enough to make you think that some of the problems you have are caused by a foreign country, you will immediately direct your fury to that country, to try to stop the conflict in your mind, and also to make the system happy, so that you will not get harmed. Society is build to make us all neurotic.

Andrei Dragutanu It also has a lot to do with the way government has evolved. Since I am from the US, I will use that government for my example. When the English colonies won independence from England the idea for the US government, at that time, was for it to be system in which all citizens had voice and was allowed to speak their mind (I know that people back then owned slaves and slaves had no rights, but I'm talking about the idea behind the government's creation so I'm not going to include the slave info in my comment). As the US government evolved it became more inclusive in the aspect of which citizens had a voice in it (i.e. eventually African Americans won the right to vote, then women). However, as the government became more inclusive it also became more restrictive in the aspect that people were no longer allowed to speak their minds if it went against those who were in power. During the "Red Scare" people were mistreated, among other things, just because either believed or it was thought that they believed that a socialist/communist (I don't remember which one of those two it was exactly) government was better than a capitalist government (what the US government is) and so because these people spoke their mind they treated as criminals because the people in power did not agree with their ideas/beliefs. *Side note: during the "Red Scare" there was a war with Russia going on which led to the "Red Scare."* Now people are not allowed to speak their mind freely. History books play the US as the big hero during WWII, but most history books don't mention what the US government did to its OWN citizens just because they were Japanese during WWII and the US was fighting Japan who allied with Germany during the war. The US government put the citizens of Japanese descent into camps just like the Nazi's put the Jews into camps (I don't know what living conditions were like in the camps that the US put the Japanese into), but history books tend to leave that out so they can brainwash people at young age into thinking that the US is this perfect place that always saves the day for everyone else. People, specifically people from the US, are always ready to talk about how bad other countries are and how great the US is and how the US should be in charge of everything because it's so perfect, but the only reason the US appears so perfect is because all of the terrible things that the US government has done is, for the most part, kept secret. The US government has created a society in which most of the people are just blind sheep following a false shepherd (the US government). Most people in the US believe whatever the government tells them even if it's complete bullshit these people think: "it's the government they wouldn't lie to me." Most people in the US are too stupid to think for themselves, but that's the way the government wants society to be so that they can get away with committing virtually any crime and its citizens are too dumb to even notice. If a US soldier tries to reveal crimes committed by the military on behalf of the US government they will be treated as a criminal for not only trying to speak their mind, but also for trying to speak the truth. The US government has devolved into nothing more than a business in which people have to be voted into. People in the US government do not give a shit about the citizens of this country, the only thing they care about is stealing as much money as possible from the citizens of this country even though they are supposed to help them. There was time in the US's history when voting actually meant something, when the people in power actually tried to make the US a better place, but now the only reason for voting is to decide who you want to be robbed by. Honestly I don't even waste my time voting because no matter who I vote for nothing will be accomplished and the government is just going to continue to fuck me in the ass. This is pretty much how every government is, not just the US government, but since I live in the US I know how the US government is, which is why I used it as an example. The worst part about the US government is that they claim your voice matters, that everyone is equal, but its a bunch of bullshit. In the US those who have money have power, and if you have enough money you can basically do whatever you want. Key example of this: the mom of one of my friends was caught with a small amount of pot by a cop and as result she's in prison, is considered an "unfit" parent and is no longer the legal guardian of her own son (my friend), he now lives with his grandparents (my friend comes from an average income family); while Lindsay Lohan has been arrested multiple times for multiple drug/alcohol related reasons, has broken her parole/probation and has not served even close to half of the actual jail time that someone who isn't rich would have served. Yep in the US everyone is equal, unless you have enough money to pay the government/justice system to look the other way. I'm not saying the US is a terrible place to live, its just the US government is a lying piece shit that can't be trusted; for that matter no government can be trusted, they're all lying pieces of shit. Please correct me if there are any factual errors in what I have written, assuming that you have read to the end of my rant.

"Has man gone insane" Well with the fact that Spain broke my alliance and rivaled me (the Red France) yea i'd say so. Also with the fact that in another game where I am Germany and have Prussia as a PU who owns all of Poland, Lithunia and a bit of Russia along with France under a PU also I think i'm a little insane.

This song perfectly describes that feeling you get when you're writing a lab report, it's 340 AM, and you've finished two sections but still have three more to go.

I've always been considered a stoic person, whenever I'm watching emotional movies with family and/or friends, they'll be bawling they're eyes out and I'll just be sitting there with minimal visible emotion. It's not even something I try to do, I just don't cry, in fact, I can list the works of fiction I've cried for on a single hand, but this song drove me to tears..

This is a generation that has never really known "Peace".
@deffdefying48036 жыл бұрын
Humanity as a species has never known peace. In fact, nothing in the world has known peace, except plants and other nonsentient life, simply because they are nonsentient.
@noaha.b.81976 жыл бұрын
deffdefying not even plants. Every living being is a product of the endless war named evolution and every single living being fights for survival on a daily basis. Btw plants are not that stupid. They can call in allies, know how to warn other members of their species and they can even evolve tactics how to use their nature given weapons in the most effective way individuelly.
@deffdefying48036 жыл бұрын
I meant in relation to sentient animals and especially humans. When we say "peace" we mean no blood being spilled for the sake of spilling blood, and we can just live our lives. However, as you suggest, there is always that constant selection pressure on every living thing, so "peace" isn't really "peace" until we're dead
