I've gotten into a thing where for several months now I actively search reviews of Steven Segal movies. Grew up with 80's action and his movies always bothered me with his air of invincibility. I actually got a "Seagal gave some decent acting" out of you in this review so I am satisfied. I really enjoyed the plot points they added in(like Seagal being a borderline alcoholic and obsessively lousy gambler although it didn't add much to the overall story) it helped give his character a little more realism instead of just being the always on payroll cop who is an unstoppable ass kicking machine. *Pistol Whipped" humanized Seagal a bit. And the scene where he puts his daughter to bed on the couch and sits down at his kitchen table and opens up a bottle of liquor about to take a drink but then he suddenly looks at his precious daughter sleeping and makes a conscientious decision to pour out the entire bottle..It's scenes like that that really set *Pistol Whipped* apart from your typical Seagal film.
@RedEyeReviews3 жыл бұрын
Oh I TOTALLY agree. There are some really good moments. I felt so bad for him when he was trying to be funny knocking on the car window and his daughter just ignores him. It was so awkward and sad, and you really feel for him. I loved how he wasn't some extreme unstoppable badass. He had faults and made mistakes. So I eat my words haha. You were right, this movie was very watchable

@@RedEyeReviews Trust me I am not going to lead you down a wrong path/opinion when it comes to Seagal's work. I am obviously a huge fan but my opinions on his films are not biased. Some are legitimate crap the man himself has admitted it. I had the honor to have met him once in Little Rock Arkansas in 2006 and as a Martial Arts practitioner myself he has inspired me since childhood. I know he gets a lot of crap these days but there was a legitimate time when everyone respected him. I miss those days.

@@djcease1996 Yeah his original movies were legit badass. And then he let alot of other vices and things get in his way, and I feel he has been chasing that high of his 80's movies ever since. Wish he’d done more of these self-depreciating characters, was more interesting than the usual ex-CIA shtick. Enjoyed the moment he takes his sunglasses off in the graveyard and then a moment later, they’re back on his face. Even Stevie the seagull was putting in more effort than usual with movies like this which seem to go a little outside this comfort zone of being an invincible one man army and the onion movie where he allows himself to appear briefly for the sake of comedy. 0:58 All Christians are Catholic. Totally in keeping with the trope. Fits better in this movie than that other one due to the urban setting. 1:02 What does he gamble with? Some portion of his welfare check? Not that I have anything against people who make use of welfare. It's there for a reason. It's just THAT's not the reason it's there. It's right to call someone out for using other people's money for one's own vices, gambling or otherwise. 1:21 Why one out of 20? Why not one out of 15 or 30? That way it's an average of once or twice a month. 2:06 Southpaw shooters, represent! A lot of us are mix-handed or cross-dominant rather than being definitively left-handed (eye dominance is more important when it comes to mastering any discipline pertaining to hitting targets). Jimi Hendrix was cognitively left-handed, but wrote with his right hand because he was "programmed" that way. 2:45 Now he's using his right hand. Maybe he's ambidextrous. Do they actually explore that with his character? That would make it kinda like a Terminator in terms of dexterity. I'm guessing they don't even bring it up. Also, kinda makes me wonder if ambidextrous people can switch eye dominance at will. 2:51 Reminiscent of Nick Chindlund's character from 'Ultraviolet'. Except he fired his pistol left-handed in that scene while sipping tea (if I recall). 2:57 Left-handed again. 3:18 "Carrott?" Is that a "special fancy" breed of carrot? Like the ones that come in different colors. And where are the carrots?! I don't see any carrots! One dollar for two pounds?! And people say they can't afford to eat healthfully. Yeah, they were saying that even back in 2008. Generally speaking, most of us Westerners don't eat enough roots. 3:25 Still don't see any carrots. 3:56 We don't talk about Bruno. 4:49 Meanwhile, Willem Dafoe is a genuine-article turbo-Chad, but he doesn't feel the need to advertise it. 6:01 Wait, is Seagal left-handed? His watch is on his right wrist just like Bruce Willis in Die Hard and Bruce is left-handed (and so is Bruce Campbell). 10:01 In Germany, they drink beer with every meal, even breakfast, and they don't get drunk. 13:59 That almost made me spew my kombucha! XD 15:18 Check that chicken-wing, greenhorn! 19:12 Fun fact: High heels were an invention of a poncy French king, remained a feudalistic men's fashion for some time, and were pretty much relegated to the oppressor class. 19:32 Does he team up with Mark Hamill as "The Cock Knocker?"
