Yes, you can tell the difference in between firearms being fired. Rifles, handguns and shotguns make different sounds. Also, fun fact, U.S. Marshals do not answer to the DEA. U.S. Marshall’s do not answer to anyone when doing prisoner transport. That’s one of the main jobs of the Marshalls. I get it is a Seagal movie, so everything will be wrong 😆 Great video!!

I suppose if someone cared enough to attempt to pay attention and differentiate the sound of a handgun vs rifle vs shotgun, they probably could. Although he said he heard m4s....he might be able to hear a rifle but it would be nearly impossible to tell the type of rifle that is being shot in a closed corridor or room. Lol not to mention, unless I missed it, I didnt see a single bad guy with an m4. They all had subguns that looked like Uzis and AKMs. So he was wrong either way.

Different calibers have distinct reports. So while you cant tell the difference between an M4 and M16, you can between an M4 and ak47 or M14

@@szasstam204 maybe if they are shooting back to back, but this guy is in a parking garage. If he heard a rifle shot, its either going to be really muffled if its in a different part of the building or its going to be ridiculously loud by echoing and reverberating off the walls if its in the same room. If someone fired a single shot of a single gun, your not going to be able to tell if its 5.56 or 7.62.

Couple of things: imagine being one of the greatest MMA fighters in UFC history and played a frikin' MCU villain that could throw it down with Capt. America and having to shoot a ''fight scene'' like this with Sensei Seagal (or rather his body double). Seriously, that was pathetic even for Seagal standards, as far as fight scenes go.... I hope Georges St. Pierre got at least a good pay check, he seems like a chill dude in real life and definetely deserves better that this. On the subject of differentiating firearms from how they sound: yes, that is possible if you have lots of experience with guns. A pistol sounds very different from a military type rifle for example. You can theoretically even tell an AK apart from a M4/M16, because the AK has a slower rate of fire in full-auto but a higher caliber.(well, the classic AK-47/AKM ) Why is Luke Goss' character a ''Major'' if he's supposed to be an US Marshall?! The US Marshall Service is a civilian, law enforcement agency *NOT* part of the US Military. They have ranks like ''Deputy Marshall'' for example. They do protect high profile witnesses though and are in charge of the Witness Protection Program, that is correct and like to recruit former Military guys (specially from Special Forces) because they also do protection for US Diplomats & diplomatic missions, overseas. Their main ''job'' though, is to hunt down federal fugitives. (Remember Tommy Lee Jones, hunting Harrison Ford in ''The Fugitive''?) Also, the bad guy just gets away in the end and that's it?! That's how the movie ends, WTF?!

Guess I am late with this, yeah, you say that you don't know anything about guns, but you like chess so that's good enough. I mean, you know what a pump-action shotgun sounds like right? Well, there are lever actions and bolt actions too. Means you gotta pull and push stuff to load after firing and you can distinctly hear those things. Sure, you might not be able to tell some tiny differences, but prolly won't matter. If people are shooting at each other in the same room or large reception, you prolly won't tell the difference between an M4, AKM, Tavor, FAL etc, you'd prolly just go deaf. But you could tell the difference between a pistol that doesn't have an automatic fire setting, and if somebody has a pump shotgun. If that's what this guy in the movie meant, he was mostly right. If he meant that he can always tell the difference between an AK and an AR15 or a UMP and an MP5 or a Glock and a C96, yeah... yeah, I gotta see that. I really gotta.

You kinda can differentiate between the sounds of guns but there's a lots of ifs and buts. A pistol and a rifle's sound is fairly distinct, and you can "kinda" differentiate between an AK or an M4 by it’s report- I know that in US military they do emphasis on recognising on the sound of the weapon. However, in other places, like Indian military, this practice is looked down upon.

True. But hearing rifle fire, you're not gonna be able to pin down the rifle that specifically. An m4 sounds like an m16 sounds like an HK. Same with the AKs. If he just said "i think i heard rifles" or "i think i heard MGs" , it works.

I know you’re not a military guy (and neither am I, but I know a thing or two) and one of the annoying parts of the movie just from these clips, is just how obviously fake the body armor is, and how little effort they put into the costume design. The Body armor in the movie (and real life) is a bullet proof/resistant plate loaded into a vest, called a plate carrier. On the plate carriers, there’s MOLLE webbing, onto which you can attach various items depending on the mission. But throughout the movie, the plate carriers are just bare. You mean to tell me no one wanted to attach spare magazines/radio/handcuffs/flashlights/medical kits to their body armor for escorting this “high value target”? Also they just look boring, add some flair to their costume.

Realistically, you can make educated guesses on the type of gun… but it’s not that simple. Every caliber sounds a bit different, the length of the barrel on the gun can change the sound, and M4’s can have different Barrels. And for example you’d never be able to the difference between a 9mm Glock 19 or a 9mm Sig P320. Both 9mm handguns. So could’ve been any 5.56 rifle…

I know the firearm thing kinda got beat to death, but a neat anecdote about identifying weapon sounds: Back in the Vietnam war, special units of US/Allied personnel would use specially modified M16's that were shortened down with a special flash hider that modulated the sound to mimick the sound of an AK, to confuse enemy forces if they had to fight. So not only can firearms be distinctly identifiable, but we've had sound spoofing in warfare.
@RedEyeReviews
@RedEyeReviews 2 жыл бұрын
Oh now THATS cool. Was this to trick them into thinking they were fighting against a more "capable" gun?
@Taytayflan
@Taytayflan 2 жыл бұрын
@@RedEyeReviews Less whether the gun was more capable or not, more "are those friendly forces that are shooting?" So if one of these units got in a gunfight with an enemy, the enemy force might think they accidentally started shooting at friendlies, or a patrolling force wouldn't immediately know who to go engage. The thought would come up "why didn't they just use AK's? for that," but militaries have supply chains to manage and manuals-of-arms to train their soldiers. Modified M16's made more sense for these special units to field since it's a system they're familiar with and an ammunition supply chain they were already using, so the official gun was the XM177. Of note, these units are always outnumbered, doing very dangerous and government denied black ops in enemy territory. The helicopters that would bring them into their target areas would do 4 fake landings for every real one and shit like that. This is why Steven Seagal steals these guys stories. There's a bunch of weird, contextually cool stuff special ops has done since WWII.

I've been in the Army for some years and yes you can tell the difference between guns by gun fire. It is never an exact science but think of it like being able to tell the difference between string tunings on a guitar. A good example is different kinds of rifles use different caliber rounds, like an AK-47 (7.62 x 39mm) sounds a lot different a M4 carbine (5.56 x 45mm). Actually in field training the army teaches you to listen for certain kind of gun fire because that can help you understand what kind of fight force you are dealing with.

Just watch the movie Platoon. You can tell the difference between the sound of the AK-47''s, and the M-16's, so I would say there is a variation with the sounds with every gun. With the exception of a few. In the movie Jackie Brown with the scene with Chicks with Guns, you can tell a difference in sound on the different guns too, but the AK has a distinct pop.

Been binge watching your videos; get recommended Ralph's video of Cartel's last night, and then yours comes out today...the algorithm never sleeps (his was more focused on...'dissecting' Seagal and I appreciate that I actually can understand what happened in the movie with yours) As for the firearm noises, someone may disagree, but the "M4" kind of seems generic; at least compared to something like an AK (fires slower; the receiver makes a distinct 'ka-chunk' as it cycles). It may be giving the movie too much credit, but maybe you could tell from the rate of fire versus something like a pistol, shotgun or other rifle...maybe?

I'm not sure if through walls you'd be able to specifically tell an M4 apart from other NATO weapons, but some weapons are very unique in their sounds and cadence, specifically the AK47/AKM pattern rifles, they were so distinct, in Vietnam certain special forces units used devices to make their M16s sound like an AKM when operating behind enemy lines to not draw attention. But again, could you tell the difference between like an M4, Hk 416, or a G36? Probably not, they are 5.56, similar barrel length, similar muzzle devices, at a similar fire rate, then you get into the technicalities of say, an M16, M4, mark 18, bloc 2, SR 15, are all technically different military weapons, but all built on the base AR15 receiver type, same BCG, same gas system, etc.

In Vietnam our boy's had a type of muzzle device they put on their M-16's that made them sound like the AK's that charlie used. So they thought it was them shooting at American's,but it was us ambushing them.

Indoors is harder to tell what kind of report a gun makes. Sounds carry differently and the concussion can cause permanent hearing damage. In the field its easier to tell weapons apart so long as the enemie or friendlies are somewhat standardized in equipment. You won't be able to tell apart say the difference between a Vz58 and an AKM for example but the rate of fire could tell you that a weapon could be a general purpose machine gun like a PKM VS a DShK that is usually vehicle mounted.

Actually, the major difference between firearms sounds is their caliber. The bigger the bullet, the louder the bang. Barrel length can also change how loud a gun is. Shorter barreled guns tend to be louder as the bullet leaves the barrel while the powder combustion process is still ongoing. This usually happens on weapons equipped with a shorter barrel than the bullet they are firing was designed for.(Short barreled ARs or revolver) Some guns also have a mechanism that makes a very specific sound when cycling (M-60 machinegun) that you can actually still hear over the gunfire sound. Those kind of weapons could be identified just by listening to the sound they make yes. Semi or single shot weapon would be very hard to tell apart but when it comes to automatic weapons, because there is such a wide range of rates of fire, the very low or very high ones could be identified by sound since there are few weapons with a similar ROF and/or caliber.
