R9 only made 56 appearances between 1998 to the end of the 2002 season for Inter Milan as he was injured for most of that time. So the argument for R9s peak being before that would be his ONE season at Barcelona and TWO at PSV. After 2002 he won the Golden boot at the 2002 world cup whilst scoring both goals in the final, signed for Real Madrid and scored 68 La Liga goals in his first 3 seasons. Also think Thomas Muller deserves a shout - probably not as talented as other Midfielders but is the only midfielder to have over 250 goals for his club and over 290 assists (only behind Messi in all time stats) - Also best player at the 2014 World Cup with the golden boot. Arguably along with CR7 is the player who has achieved the most with their available talent. Still wouldn't have him in my team (unless he won a 3rd treble) but would take him as the CAM/second striker if were putting a proper midfield together rather than putting three 8's in.
