It's not automatically the dog's fault as you presume. It's worth a visit and check out some of these dogs. I adopted a small senior dog and she never ever chewed anything, never soils into the house and is even cat friendly. It took her about 2 weeks to trust me and the rest is history. 5 years still going strong.

No, not everyone should. Owning a dog is a lot of responsibility, time and money. It's furthermore a commitment for 20 years or something to stand up every day and feed him, walk him... Owning a dog is only for a certain kind of lifestyle and I hope everyone who adopts a dog thinks long and hard about it and are aware of the commitment it is and the sacrifices they'll have to make. Telling everyone to just go out and adopt is terrible advise.

Much more than prayer is needed. Positive actions and proper education/ethics need to be exhibited by older generations to teach younger ones to properly care for all animals.
