Very first dog I ever adopted turned out to be deaf.... didn't find this out until a few days after the adoption, but I didn't have the heart to take him back to the shelter so I kept him. He turned out to be one of the smartest dogs I ever adopted. He learned to sign language sit, lay down, come, stay, go to his kennel..... all within one week.

I have a deaf pittie who is the funniest, happiest most lovable dog I have ever had. I started teaching her sign language at 8 weeks. She learned very fast and now at 11 years minds better than my hearing dogs and still is eagerly learning new signs.

It's stories like these, that make it all worth while. I too have had some SPECIAL NEEDS dogs, so I tend to gravitate to them. Yes, I'm giving them a chance, but they're enriching my life even more so. In my book, the SPECIAL NEEDS dogs mean that they are there for their SPECIAL NEEDS PERSON. Who, probably needs them more and doesn't even know it. Animals like these are the GREATEST thing since sliced bread. A HUGE THANK YOU, to EVERYONE who makes things like this possible. My mother saved a King Charles cavalier puppy from being euthanised when I was little, & ‘presented’ him to me on my 4th birthday with a big blue bow around his tummy; he was born Deaf & the previous ‘owners’ (for lack of better wording) thought he wouldn’t ‘sell’ so it was best ‘to put him down’. When my mother heard she went MAD & raced over to save him. We named him Charlie & he became apart of our lives for 8 1/2 years until he sadly had to be put to sleep from cancer. Things like sign language weren’t really known when it came to dog training in 1990, not when we first got him, but we lived on a farm & we’d go for long walks over the fields, & I’d play with him for hours in our big garden. He was the most lovable, gentle soul you ever could meet, & I’ll always remember Charliebean for just not letting the fact he was deaf hold him back from doing what he wanted, if you’ve ever experienced owning a dog who is deaf / has any difficulties, you’ll know what I mean when I say that! They just have this amazing aura about them. I’m so glad JJ found her forever home, thank you to her foster mummy for being so patient, loving & kind with her when many would’ve given up on her. Much love & blessings to all; here’s to a long, happy & healthy life! ❤️ xx

omg, cav pups are something else, so I just know that ur CharlieBean was super spesh. My cuzn had a cav and boy, lemme tell you - he was a character & a half! Everyone that met him always had a story about him (like how they met or how they got on so well, how "cool" he was, etc.) it was unreal how he touched everyone he mets lives. To this day, they still go on about Duke, and he passed about 4 yrs ago! :( I guess we are all just lucky to have had these amazingly loyal friends, no matter how short the time was, it was all very special, nonetheless.

Harlow Jade Mermaid Right?! My family & the few school friends I still speak to STILL mention him 20+yrs on ! There’s something so endearing about spaniels, they just have this amazing personality & they’ll have you in stitches ! My family have mostly only ever had labradors (being farmers etc - not sure why labs are more common in farming families, but they usually are!) - so charliebean was quite special to us. We lost our very last lab just before lockdown in a very distressing way, she had a huge seizure & I had to call out the vet nurse to help my father get her in her car. I’d never witnessed a large dog have huge violent seizures before, I’m usually the calm, cool collected person in my furrbabies lives but I was hysterical; she was riddled with kidney cancer & showed no signs whatsoever. We lost her. My father had a heart attack the next day from shock. It’s really quite profound the effect they have on you, they really are another member of your family. I’m so sorry to hear about Duke 💕 May he be running free with Charliebean, Bonnie & all the other beautiful doggies. Thank you for sharing Dukes story with me 🥰 I’d love to think we’ll all meet again one day & how crazy that reunion will be !! ❤️ xx

I love that other rescue lady they showed towards the end of this video- I’ve seen her in action on a lot of other videos. She does amazing work with the doggies !! Like when she said before sure she falls In love with each one she helps but she can’t keep them all cuz then she wouldn’t be able to help OTHER doggies in need. Brilliant!!!

My wife rescued our baby boy Tucker, who is deaf. My wife has taught him American Sign Language. The people (🤬) she got him from were going to put him down because he was deaf. I’m happy they didn’t want him. Because we really needed him in our lives. We had to put down our Gracie May a couple of years before and it was really hard on the whole family.

I so admire those of you who can do this work!! I would want to keep all of them. I have 6 dogs and if the wife would let me I would have 100ds. I cook for my dogs every day I’m their personal chef and caregiver. My wife loves them to. It is 20.00 a day to cook but they get good food and variety you can’t buy. I cook for the family but they wait till the kids are fed. After all the family can cook their own food.
