Wow! Timely video! Just got my 03 mach back from the shop because those prongs on the fork were so bad it took all my might to put it in gear and knew something was wrong that wasnt the cable or clutch.. New fork and pivot ball and it feels great! Great video!

I may be pulling the trans in the near future to replace the rear main, so I'm replacing the clutch while I'm in there. May as well replace these too. Unless it's badly worn, I probably wouldn't have given this much thought, thanks for the tip!

Thanks Danny. I just put my 97 gt convertible back on the road. It has a vibration issue. It vibrates in neutral and throughout the rpm band standing still or driving. I wonder if this could be the problem. I changed the harmonic balancer today and it didn’t fix any vibration. I looked though the clutch cable hole and saw and noticed vibration. My clutch also chatters. I wonder if a new clutch pivot ball etc will fix my problem.

What size socket do you use to remove this? I've tried a 22mm wrench and mine is on so tight I can't get it. So I bought a 22mm deep well socket and it's not deep enough.

@@dannyjohnsonsgarage Yeah I recently replaced the clutch in my 03 Mustang GT. Mechanic told me one of the prongs was completely torn off on the clutch fork. I have no idea how I was still able to change gear at all haha.

Would this cause an issue of vibration when slipping the clutch taking off in 1st gear. It doesn’t vibrate in any other gear
@dannyjohnsonsgarage3 жыл бұрын
I would say that would be more from clutch chatter as a new clutch is breaking in or if it’s at the end of its life. This will cause the pedal to vibrate while cruising around
@sto1asgoetia60015 сағат бұрын
So can these worn pivot stud and fork cause a t5 to shift poorly and break gears?
@dannyjohnsonsgarage9 сағат бұрын
It’s possible, more likely the throwout bearing is bad and getting stuck, not applying sufficient pressure on the diaphragm fingers to release the clutch and it’s dragging sincros

Good video’s and helpful so thanks. Could you let me know where to buy those parts ? Also, do you know if it’s true that the throw-out bearing is always in contact with the fingers of the pressure plate ?
@dannyjohnsonsgarage4 жыл бұрын
Late model restoration.com and yes, the throwout bearing is designed to LIGHTLY contact the diaphragm fingers (preload). Too much contact will burn it up and too little will jolt it on impact and reduce the life

Is it possible for the fork to come off the stud while changing the clutch cable? Went to place the dust cover back on and it didn’t fit. I was able to push the fork in to the trans and it slide right in then was able to put the dust cover. Wanna say about half an inch.
@dannyjohnsonsgarage Жыл бұрын
Yes. It can slide off the pivot ball stud and a lot of times with worn parts it’s only the cable that’s holding it up and on the pivot ball stud

It’s common with the dual clutch setups to use the adjustable. But before you do all that, it can sometimes be resolved with the right clutch quadrant and firewall adjuster. Sometimes it can’t be within spec without the adjustable pivot ball stud

What would make the clutch fork vibrate while the throwout bearing is resting against the pressure plate.
@dannyjohnsonsgarage Жыл бұрын
Not enough pressure on the diaphragm fingers if the clutch pressure plate, a bad pivot ball stud, a bad clutch fork (where it attaches to the pivot ball stud), or a combination of all these things

So i think i have these parts worn out on my ‘03 v6, when i’m in neutral i hear a chirping/squeaking but when i press in the clutch it goes away
@dannyjohnsonsgarage3 жыл бұрын
That’s the throwout bearing itself. The chirping is the bearing lightly contacting the clutch. You can adjust it so it’s touching slightly more firmly until the chirping goes away (known as preload) but it requires the adjuster kit. You can do that first but it’s likely on its way out kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoa1aa2Nfbqrftk
