It is often said that the US is a country where the uniqueness of each individual is respected, because the country consists of immigrants with different cultural backgrounds. That’s actually a lie! there are so much racism and stereotypes in the US that enforce us to stick to the invisible rules of the society. Jill also said this but introverts with poor communication skills such as Eastern Asians are often seen as outcasts, and they are often bullied or made fun of. Jill stood up to this cultural enforcement of having to present ourselves as an “extrovert” and ensured us by saying it’s okay to be who we are. I think it’s very powerful and I hope her insight will save a lot of introverts in the US who struggle to accept who they are. Eastern Asians are not seen as leaders but as “good supporters.” For example, the president will always be a white man, and Asians can be their secretary. Jill changed this model by becoming a leader of the eastern Asian community, by taking a leadership in her “introverted” way. Bravo!! I hope to see more fellow eastern Asian introverts become successful not by changing themselves for who they are but in their own unique ways.
