I agree with the idea that diversity can only start through education, but Prof. Narita is also right in saying that education, especially higher education, is probably the slowest to change and accept diversity in Japan. I think of myself as representing diversity in Japan, but I am told too many times that I am a foreigner here (i.e. I don't understand the culture) and, therefore, I should shut up and conform to the rules. It's exhausting especially since I've lived here over 20 years. I DO understand the rules, I just disagree with many of them 🙂

In order to foster diversification, foreign perspectives are inevitably needed. Unfortunately, however, Japan has developed its economy in such a bad way that it has become so complete domestically. As a result, many citizens do not have a foreign perspective nor are they interested in it. As Japan declines economically and people begin to migrate abroad, their perspective will naturally broaden.

Cause that’s what happens in all English speaking countries except USA. And the reason why diversity is useless is because world works with a very limited set of principles and systems. Outside that system most things fail. So if you want to diversify, try at your own risk.
