I can't think of a better way to celebrate the 10th iteration of the Pixel than Google announcing a fully fledged ecosystem at the event. They really are tired of being the underdogs. I respect it.

I completely agree, google is trying to merge chrome os into android so it doesn't have to sell it off, and exactly around the same time coincidentally the pixel tablet got canceled while a rumor a pixel PC leaks started

Even if Google had to sell off Chrome, they wouldn't have to sell off Chrome OS. Totally different thing.

This is a great theory. It would be cool to see the pixel tablet go directly at the iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard and MS Surface. Both are lacking in their own ways. iPadOS is still very limited from a productivity standpoint and Windows doesn’t really support mobile apps.

I have made my way back to Android, although I am using a Pixel 9 Pro Fold and a Samsung Galaxy Tab 9 Ultra along with a Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra. I wish that Google made a Pixel Tablet that could compete with the Galaxy Tab as well as a watch, but they don't seem to be addressing my use case. I came from a iPhone 16 Pro Max and an iPad 13" Pro with 5G, which of course plays well within their walled garden, but I really got bored with it. That being said, I don't see them replacing my Macbook Pro. It is the M1 and still works great, and does everything I need in a laptop/desktop situation. One more quick rant - why can't Samsung offer a 5G version of the S10 Ultra in the US? They have it overseas, and they have the plus variant with 5G, but not the Ultra.
@ruben79nyc21 күн бұрын
It makes sense to me also and I'm hoping you are right about Google wanting to compete with more than what the Pixel Tablet has to offer now.
@Perpn10121 күн бұрын
I think google sees the potential in AI / Gemini to spark interest in consumers judging by the market share increase with the pixel 9 series, they are hoping the same formula will help increase marketshare for tablets and laptops to compete against Apple. They just need a New OS to implement those changes.

According to newer leaks I think google cancelled only because of software experience, or the SoC wasn't good enough to allow them sell at a higher price. Last year google bundled speaker dock to sell the tablet. Tbh, just the display is not enough for to sell the product at a higher price range. They also working on keyboard which means probably SoC or software is the reason for the cancellation because they're already working on tablet 3. They may have realized that tablet 2 is not upto their standard for competing with the ipads. They're working on desktop mode, multi window for that

I don't think that Google really had a true vision about what they wanted to do with this tablet to begin with. It's not a bad device, but I felt there's nothing really compelling about it to even consider purchasing it. Google, I feel sent a mixed message about this being a replacement for their assistant device with the LCD that sells for a lot less, almost as if this was an upgrade to that device. Perhaps they are simply pulling back to see if they should reevaluate their strategy and perhaps come out with something more premium that has a keyboard option and other accessories and will release another tablet in the future.
@philsaitta882019 күн бұрын
Here’s my thought…with some, you have iPhone, iPad, MacBook. Each has a distinctive price range and power range. Android would have pixel phone, tablet and laptop that do not have a distinctive price and power range. To me that makes either the tablet or the laptop redundant. In order to remain (become) efficient, one needs to go. Reality, Google needs to stop thinking about Apple. It should build a system to stand on its own. If it’s good, people will come. Google does lots of good things. My qualms are too many things are half baked…things that ate important to ’me’. Each of us have our own list of important things. Until Google completes the circle, i may not consider Google products seriously
@hilmyakatsuki166521 күн бұрын
Another theory can be due to DOJ forcing to sell the chrome they will have to use Android as OS from now on. So if they want to do that then they have to come with a good hardware of their own. Otherwise they won't able to get the market with a random low performance hardware. This may cause android for tablet/desktop value to be go down from the very beginning. Pixel tablet maybe won't able to compete with even chromeOS powered hardwares. I really wonder if they're going to use tensor 4 or make something more powerful or even opt to use Qualcomm. Hopefully we will see a Microsoft, apple desktop OS competitor. After tablet they will likely to touch desktop segment now as play store also have to be separated as provided as a user installable store rather than from OEMs.
@shanecraigtech21 күн бұрын
Chrome and Chrome OS are not the same thing. Even if Google had to sell off Chrome, he could continue using Chrome OS, perhaps under a different name.
@hilmyakatsuki166520 күн бұрын
@scaryifliteral yes chrome OS is different but chrome OS uses a lot of Chrome browser. It even uses the same graphics stack and other things. If Google has to sell chrome they will rewrite a lot of stuff. Most of the chrome OS is web apps including the chrome OS settings app running inside the web engine. They invested a lot for PWAs. If google was blocked from working on chrome then maintaining chromium is a loss for google. They will have to rewrite the underlying architecture of the whole OS. Hence they will likely stop working on that, rather use Android which is a lot different than chrome OS architecture. Android is more like traditional OSs where the browser engine is not a necessary part of the OS, instead an added extension for the OS to browse the web.

Next year Pixel will switch to 3 nm TSMC chip which will be more powerfull and energy efficient. More powerful chip will allow Chrome OS to function better. It is ridiculous to see Chromebooks with Intel and Celeron chips which create fan noise. Pixel tablets can compete with iPads if they have desktop Chrome browser.

It is all interesting. I keep hoping Samsung will double down on Dex and make it a true desktop. But it is limited by Android.
