The only inaccurate part is that the British, Dutch, and Portuguese never fought at Dresden, it was the Russians, the Prussians, and the Austrians who fought the French at Dresden and also the French also won the actual battle. But other than that, the video is pretty cool and well played out 10/10 Edit: The only Spaniards who fought at Dresden were the soldiers of the Joseph Napoleon Regiment which was a regiment of Spaniards loyal to Napoleon. The regiment was named after Napoleon’s older brother Joseph Bonaparte who at the time lost his title as King of Spain after his terrible defeat at Vitoria. These guys were part of General Jamin’s 1st Brigade, General Lagrange’s 21st Division, which was part of Marshal Marmont’s VI Corps

Some of the uniforms aren’t accurate either. Many of the French are wearing the 1805 regulation dress (long tailed coats, bicorne, etc.) while by Dresden the uniforms were of the Bardin regulations (short tailed Habit veste, shako, etc.)

If this is historically accurate it would be 2.5 VS 4 as the French have 120k troops VS 200k Allied troops and yet Napoleon won dealing almost 40k losses to the enemy while only losing 10k.

4:25 Completely agree man! its frustrating seeing the franchise you like go in a different direction than you were hoping, and having no other game that fills that void (besides a a few overhaul mods). I can't blame CA when Warhammer is just so successful, but I was hoping they would focus on immersion with historical while doing arcade and over the top with fantasy.

I agree, and this is part of what kept me from trying warhammer for a while. But when I got around to it, I really started to love the setting and the spectacle of the insanely different races and units at play. It's got a lot of issues, but it's quite fun in its own right.

for me i dont have issue with either setting, i just want the features it had back, like for starter i absolutely need ability to move any units anywhere i want, without a general. Playing older games there are chances for so many smaller battles/ skirmishes etc. i need that back, not only big general lead armies. It also changes dynamic of siege battles because you can increase and decrease number of defenders on your own will, needing to raise a new army if you just want to have few more units in city for defense is just plain horrible.

That instance around 24:00 where the French units were just standing at the ready and not firing was most likely due to the common Imperial/French side (whatever you call it in NTW3) musket bug. It happens quite frequently on NTW3, but is almost always happening to French units. The severity of it can be dependent on lag, if someone is spam clicking orders for a particular unit, etc.

I absolutely love the urban combat/tactics playing out. NTW3/DarthMod on Napoleon TW may low-key be my favorite TW. People hate on Rome 2 and Warhammer TW but I also love them both, modded nicely. There’s just something I love in the pacing of linear warfare and I’m fortunate there are plenty of folks who enjoy that, too. I'd say that French army, that charged early on, was trying to cover his allies flank who was covering the river bed. While his army did route so did many of the British army. Anyways, whether or not the french player wanted to commit so early on or not is up for debate but I'd argue that he was trying to buy time for his ally

This is a normal reality in the NTW3 mod, however it’s more consistant and sometimes accurate but most of the time it’s large armies fighting for hours

If anyone is looking for a great game like this but maybe even better, buy Ultimate General: Civil War. One of my favorite games of all time. You control an army and go from mi or battles to famous ones. Sometimes like Gettysburg they can take hours. You do things like probing, positioning, fall back, taking important parts of battlefield. Totally epic game

nah man from a defensive standpoint when you are outnumbered and surrounded on all fronts, charging like that and exposing your teammates flanks is a selfish and a blunder{(no offense to the player at all thats what would happen irl still a bad play tho)

Having been playing Napoleon Darthmod again recently I know exactly what you mean about the 5 minute battles of recent Total War titles. Napoleon just hit a sweet spot in strategy and game play that hasn't been seen as of late.

The constricted and rapid approach to warhammer total war battles will always be to me a huge detriment to the game and what made it great. Total War battles shouldn’t last half as long as a team death match on modern warfare 2

I’ve been super curious what Warhammer and Rome 2 TW games would feel like if the melee had the pacing of the linear warfare in NTW. R2:DEI + the slower battles sub-mod makes it possible to back an exhausted fighting unit off your front line (when backed up by a reserve unit) without taking massive casualties. All TW games need a fighting retreat/fallback function like in the Ultimate General series so that keeping units fresh and in reserve is more beneficial. Maybe also make it so units break faster, but rally more frequently and more quickly, unless there is massive routing? Also, maybe give routing units the ability to individually fight/defend against pursuers (I believe this was a thing in one of the earlier TW games) but at like -80% performance? I feel like these changes would make battles longer but more dynamic as the line pushes back and forth, and require less micro and more decision-making-do I press and pursue a routing unit, knowing I’ll take a few casualties in the chase and give up position, or do I let my unit rest so that they can be fresh to re-engage the diminished enemy when they rally and return to the line?
