Bro so true. A one handed unit can get two or three hits on a two handed wielder before the two hander can charge up an attack. I love how little bugs like that can turn into strategy. If a two handed attack hits though that can trip up the attacker for a finisher. Those are my favorites.

Agreed 👍 there is some historical precedent for it too :) The Roman's favored the gladius short sword for its speed and lethal stabbing motion while most of their enemies favored larger, more fearsome weapons 👍

That was a very fast moving 3v3, they can often take a long while but I suppose with the amount of arty on the field it really pushed everyone to get stuck in quickly without much skirmishing.

Regarding archers in wide formation I don't know about concentration of fire but the engine's pathfinding does tend to suffer from it. They are extremely hard to maneuver and it feels like they take a bit too long to fire and spend too much time reforming , similar to arquebus units. Also if you are bringing quite a few of them wide formation makes it even harder to properly protect them and enemy cav finds it easier to engage the corners. Now combine clunky pathfinding with the wide formation and falling back sometimes takes way longer than expected which results in a few of them getting caught before infantry can move up to support them.

I hate to say it, but you're wrong about heavy billmen or billmen in general. They effectively act as pikemen, but they have a bonus against armor and can peirce it, thus making them effective against most infantry units as well, you also cant flank them as easily as regular pikes and the heavy billmen armor is actually better than fudal knights have. They are the perfect all round multi purpose unit and are relatively cheap to recruit for their overall effectiveness.

Medieval 2's battles are still so great. We don't need a medieval 3. Where Medieval 2 is mostly lacking compared to more modern games is the campaign map. If we could get a good proper remaster with better camera controls and a reworked campaign map with maybe some more factions and better depicitions of Spain and HRE, M2TW could go toe to toe with modern games.
