This is SKILL ,plain and simple.I've used a lathe on hardened steel and i've repaired cars during my lifetime.And as a well rounded all around FIXER,this guy is way up there in the job he does.He may not have learned the BOOK way on heat treating and steel PROPERTIES,and it looks like they only use E6013 rod,but i have to hand-it to this channel they show what can be REPAIRED to get a truck back on the road.great video guys

Ive seen a time or two could've used this type work done. The edges of the gears sure can wear after much use. Great work, saved the day once again.

It’s nice watching folks do so much, with what we have been taught is, “so little”
One heavy gear change and the weld shears of unscrews the gear and eats the gearbox!

I wouldn't have welded it because it can ruin hardening. Instead use two or three pins to lock the threads and just hammer press them so the ends won't let them get out. Hardening is saved and otherwise the work would be the same. Though I must say, they didn't directly weld the teeth so maybe it isn't that much of a concern, but still...

Never mind how long this might last, why would you ever weld next to gear teeth and a bearing surface without protecting them from welding splatter.

@sergeyguryn38764 ай бұрын
@sergeyguryn38764 ай бұрын

Maybe he's a one man shop, but leaving the key in the chuck and walking away will get you fired in a shop. Threads are not accurate enough to maintain concentricity, he should have machined a mating shoulder to join the parts. The shoulder should be on the shaft side, as this is the 1st motion gear and the force would tend to unthread the gear toward the shaft side.

That will last about 10 minutes unless it’s in some old tractor idling around a paddock at 1000 rpm . If that’s a truck input shaft it will vibrate to bits
