For the pipeline, it's because oil sands are incredibly inefficient. It takes 1 barrel of oil to produce/refine 1.5 barrels of oil from tar sands, whereas oil from texas/saudi 1 barrel has an output of around 1000 barrels of oil.

Thats exaggerated. Its more like: 2.9-5:1 barrels tar sands oil (depending) 18:1 barrels crude And we are talking about eroi here. But your point stands. If you take out transpo costs (or limit them to the energy to turn the pumps) it is more profitable. There is significantly more risk of environmental issues with pipelines, though, I believe. As if theres a spill, its not just 1 truck. Its like a hose. It doesnt stop until you turn it off. Also, arent they just "taking" the land? Which is the larger issue, I thought. They do it to americans all the time "eminent domain," but its especially f*ed up when we do it to a tribe that weve already pushed into a tiny section of land, by way of "eminent domain" a couple times. 🤣

I almost died wile listening to this episode. I was sitting at a red light, listening to all the candy being ranked and drinking my coffee on my way to work. The light turns green and I don’t notice right away because I was enjoying the banter. I hit the gas and almost make it half way through the intersection. A black jeep appears to my left and cuts across the front of my car. (left to right) The Jeep had to almost do a 90degree turn to avoid my car. He would of hit my (driver side) door if he didn’t do this extreme maneuver. That Jeep lost control and fish tailed down the road almost crashing into oncoming traffic, and I continued on to work with an insane adrenaline rush. Thanks for distracting me.

hey idk if any of the hosts are gonna read this but i think danny's issues with the mic and discord might be due to his interface to power his shure sm7b. some audio interfaces dont play nice with windows apps depending on whether wdm or mme drivers are being used. in discord if you go to voice settings and scroll down to audio subsystem if hes on standard then switching to legacy might help his microphone issue. someone suggested that to me and it fixed my issues.

I started at the beginning of the show and have been working my way through episodes the past few years so I know commenting now won’t be seen by many. I was listening to this episode on my phone through podcasts. Wow, hearing Kevin Randleman being mentioned took me back to being a kid. Idk if Woody would see this but he might get a kick out of it being into MMA. When I was a kid he trained with my dad at the gym my dad used to fight for in Columbus Ohio. It no longer exists but it was Black Dragon Jiujitsu. I didn’t know he was “famous” at the time or even a UFC fighter. We were at some event waiting in line, I want to say maybe the Arnold Classic and he showed up. To me he was one of the dojo guys I knew but to others he was a star, I said hi to him and chased him around and play fought with him. I remember a couple of guys shouting “kick his a** kid” not knowing they knew who he was too. That’s a memory I’ll never forget. RIP Kevin!
