The point I think Driftor is missing (and other similarly minded pro-choice people) that Taylor should have made is that what separates Taylor and Driftor isn’t the desire to avoid raising children in shit circumstances. The socioeconomic circumstances are irrelevant to the question of is abortion murder and should therefore being outlawed. If abortion isn’t murder, then a middle class married woman who gets an abortion after getting pregnant due to contraception failure, is not any more immoral than a poor woman who does the same thing. If someone were to ask Driftor if he thinks it should be legal for a homeless woman who has just given birth to ask a doctor to euthanize that newborn, he would probably say no of course not, and it wouldn’t be logically coherent to come back with saying “well then you would rather have thousands of women like that not euthanize and have thousands of crack babies like this because the exception of a baby growing up fine is not the norm”, even though it is probably true most babies like that will grow up to follow the pattern of their parents as adults. And then the question is why is this not acceptable to someone like Driftor, but abortion is, and his answer would be getting at what the core of the abortion issue, whether or not killing a fetus is like killing a person (something he would contest) or whether abortion is only killing a potential person. Debates where both sides are coming at this with different premises are not productive if neither side acknowledges them. While he is certainly not the worst, and I ultimately agree with his position, Taylor doesn’t do that great of a job of defending anti-abortion laws. The best abortion debate I have seen is between Trent Horn and Destiny. Edit: I would also add that Taylor shouldn’t have stayed away or conceded a point about aborting a severely deformed baby that will die shortly after birth. Abortion is not a passive action. It is not equivalent to hospice care and removing medical treatment to allow nature to take its course. All modern abortion procedures involve directly killing the fetus. It is illegal for a doctor to inject a newborn baby that was born prematurely at 25 weeks with digoxin to kill it, even if the baby is severely deformed, and many pro-choicers would be against making that legal and would only support allowing option palliative non invasive medical care to reduce suffering. However, the pro-choice side largely believes (and some prolifers) it should be legal to perform an abortion on a fatally deformed 25 week fetus, which is essentially the same procedure. That is inconsistent.

Personally, i wouldnt want women harming themselves seeking out illegal abortions , but in my experiences talking to women who've had them, it's a procedure with a physical impact and fairly massive emotional impact. I dont think ive any right to tell someone not to get one, so i think it should remain legal. That being said, i do think it should be discouraged except as a last resort option vs absitinence, using contraception , raising or rehoming the baby after its born.

One thing that's never made sense to me about the abortion argument is why it's "ok" to have elective abortions. If the mother doesn't want the child and the father does, she can kill it because it's "her body". However if the father doesn't want the child and the mother does, the father can't leave because it's "a child." Imo if someone supports "my body, my choice," they should also support "not my body, not my problem." If women can get elective abortions, I see no reason that *ANY* father should have to pay child support or have any attachment to that child if they leave during the window where abortion is legal. Unfortunately it's almost never OK to have an abortion because of convenience it's tragic in every circumstance but realistically my parents were broke and poor and didn't have a good relationship and now I'm making very good money - 150k a year and I'm supporting my mum and building a better future for my bloodline in the end if I was aborted my mums life would've been alot worse because she never had those aspirations.
