Brings back old memories to me….. My Dad, God bless him, was a mechanic, old school, didn’t have his own shop, more like a “mobile” mechanic. But most the time he would work around our home. I still remember all these acts working on valves and all kind of mechanic work, anything in a car, from A to Z. He didn’t have laths or other machining devices, just the basic tools, his strength and his brain (not particularly in that order). He always repeated that tools are the most important, they work for you. It’s like a gift from heaven to get a new tool, particularly the specialized ones. He grew up orphan and illiterate. I was helping him after school, weekend and summer holidays. And I would read for him automotive repair guides for some newer car models. Then to make things easy for him he would ask me to write down a single letter for some parts and put next to it the value for the torquing amount needed. Mainly for Pistons and 3 or 4 other majors parts. I know some people will criticize about the environmental and safety parts of this video but it is what it is and these guys are gaining honest income. Cleaning was with “petrol” then for some parts with “diesel” followed with water jetting, it helps a quicker drying and I’m guessing it’s like using a surfactant and repelling water. Thank you for sharing this.

I am not a professional mechanic, but do have decades of experience. It looks like these guys broke about every natural law of basic auto repairs imaginable. Some broken numerous times. For starters, using a steel brush at high revolutions to clean intake and exhaust valves along with the mating surface. Just a dang shame. They are probably thinking, "Oh, but hey! Look how clean it is"!😂 Still, it is fun to watch. 😊

I used to bang valve springs off like that doing valve seals in Hyundai excels in the 90’s lol …Clamp a pair of vice grips onto a 13/16 spark plug socket , put bearing grease in the Socket . Pressurize the cylinder you’re working on with an adapter from your compression gauge hooked up to shop air to keep the valves closed , then hold the socket on the top of the spring then smack it with the hammer , the grease catches the keepers lol

I'd like the videos with the boys helping out. It reminds me on when I was their age and worked with my father and my uncles and cousins. They were in the construction business and every weekend all the boys had to go with her father and part of the summer we would have to help out. These boys are learning a very good skill. I don't care if you have $1,000 car or truck or a million dollar car or truck. They all have one thing in common and that is they have cylinder heads. I know some people on here have negative things to say about the young kids. People are even saying they are forced to do this work. I have never seen it in any other videos I always saw the boys smiling and laughing. And one video they were racing each other one who could get their cylinder head done first. As always I enjoyed this video and of course I gave it a big old thumbs up. You can only subscribe once and that has been taken care of at the beginning of your series. I love watching just kind of work. I think if I was a young man again I believe I would work in a machine shop. I love all the different machines and what they do. I look forward to the next video. I hope everyone has a very Happy New Year.

These videos are nostalgic and fascinating to me. There is a certain kind of zen to doing this work. I used to work in my dad's machine shop and this is how we would do it. All of his equipment was older stuff, he ran the shop from 1985 to 2015. With all of the heads I've taken apart, I never saw the valve seats get pulled and replaced. I was scratching my head when I saw them do that. We also had a bench for cutting the valve seats and never did the lapping process seen here with the paste. Also had a big acid cooker and would throw the parts in for a few minutes to get them degreased and cleaner to avoid the manual scrubbing seen here.

I was skeptical at first, but I have to admit that was a pretty legit rebuild. My only criticism is the lack of clean work surface. And if they're going to reuse the springs, they should do a compression force vs length test to make sure the springs are good. Otherwise, valve float can occur at higher engine RPM. These guys can really benefit from an air compressor, I would love to buy them one. Cheers from Canada!
@dard6555
@dard6555 Жыл бұрын
Any idea of when you get to valve float on a tractor engine?
@Rayden440
@Rayden440 Жыл бұрын
@@dard6555 In large diesel engines, valve float usually only happens when the engine has been severely over-revved (like more than 3000 rpm). An inexperienced driver going down a steep grade in the wrong gear can quickly overspeed the engine. A lot can go wrong at such high engine RPM like the turbo can blow up or connecting rod(s) may exit the engine block. My original comment is that if the valve springs are weaker than manufacturer's specification (I didn't see them testing the springs), then the valves can float during normal engine operating speed rather than at extremely high RPM.

Besides, school today are pure propaganda centers (at least here in the west) where children get indoctrinated and dumbed down to the absolute lowers denominator. It's no longer about learning, but activism, that, and teaching children what to think rather than HOW to think. The only school for a man worthy of his time is trade school.
