Selection to cursor only works if the origin of the object is aligned with the base, since it snaps the object origin to the cursor
@timothygooding9544
@timothygooding9544 2 ай бұрын
luckily you can shift the origin on an object easily When in object mode with the move tool (4 arrows) go to the options drop down on the top right of the editor window and check effect only: origins It lets you freely move the origins instead of the parts, making snapping or making centers of rotation easier I used blender way too long without knowing that. It also works fine with the vertex/line/face snap tools

How does Blender know that you want to align *the bottom* of those spire objects though? This seems like it might be missing an initial step, where you first set the pivot point for the object you want to move, and *then* do what the video shows, no? I'm a Blender noob, but I know that's what I had to consider in 3DS Max years ago.
@BlenderVitals
@BlenderVitals 2 ай бұрын
You can set the origin of the object where necessary based on how you want the object to be placed. If you want it to align with the base of your object, you’ll have to move the origin point there. You can do that by either moving the object in edit mode and aligning the origin with the base. Or use a similar method to what I’ve shown in the video by going into edit mode, select where you want the origin to be, move cursor to selection, then in object mode, right click with you object selected and set origin to 3D cursor. Hope this helps.
