It doesn't matter who does it or not. The task doesn't pick the only specific person to do it. She only ask the person to stay on the mat is probably already hard since they need to go up to the hill. She need to lessen the burden for a random stranger to able to help. Less hassle more high chance on helping. Yea I know it's just 1 exercise ball but it's less hassle if you holding it or not right?

@@alexrsps141 You only have to deflate them just a bit to decrease their surface tension allowing you to grip two in one hand, the other can stay inflated. It would take no more than a couple dozen seconds or so to re inflate the small amount you let out.

Why are people confused by the validity of Richard's interpretation?And my word, there are native speakers amongst them! 'On the hill' can be either a prepositional phrase (indicating position) or a relative clause (defining a noun). As a relative clause, it would most correctly be 'that/which/who is on the hill', but we often omit relative pronouns anyway (that, which, who etc.). In 'Place the balls on the yoga mat (which/that is) on the hill', it can be understood as either a prepositional phrase or a relative clause. 1) The balls are on the yoga mat. Place them on the hill. 2) The yoga mat is on the hill. Place the balls on it. (relative clause) 3) The balls and the yoga mat have somehow been provided. Place the latter on the former whilst being on the hill. All three are equally correct interpretations, but the first can be ruled out in this case because it contradicts observation. Nothing in the card makes either of the remaining two exclusively correct. For Richard's interpretation to have been wrong, this task should have read: 'Take the balls up the hill and place them on the yoga mat (which is) there'.

Put together I interpret it as up on the hill and on the mat. Had the phrase been "on the mat that is on top of the hill" the first condition remains the same but the second part "that is on top of the hill" this is now a description as to where the mat can be found. Not a requirement for where the mat must be when the balls are placed on it. This is ofc just how I'd interpret it.
