I lived in Crawley for most of my life but emigrated to Perth Australia 20 years ago as my wife is Australian. But I miss Crawley so much and will probably move back there when I retire if that surprises people it shouldn't living in Australia and emigrating isn't all it is cracked up to be homesickness is terrible I would move back to Crawley in a heartbeat.

I was born in Crawley, and watching this video has brought back some happy memories. It does not look really any different to the 60s I remember. More modern definitely but clean and the shops might have new owners, but the layout is just as it was. Queens Square has been updated, the memorial gardens are no different really. The bus station has moved, and new building has appeared, with a new road layout. The neighbourhoods are as they were, and I doubt the people of Crawley are much different. Attitude makes a town, and I think people should be grateful and take care of their surroundings.

I was a Policeman here between 1983 and 2003 when I went to the Metropolitan Police to finish my career. What a great place to work and live,I was happy there and my two children were born there. The powers that be though,wanted to move me to Burgess Hill stating that with twenty five years service,I should be putting my feet up.. I couldn’t do that so I had to forsake my lovely town and go to London. I was to be very happy in Central London but I never forgot Crawley. A lot of my dearest and nearest friends were there and I saw a great deal in my work. I miss all the people that I knew and loved. In 2017 however,I went back to Crawley,having retired and moved away. I had split from my wife and decided to live once more in the town. I’m sorry to say that the whole town has changed and nothing was the same. I found that the young people I got to know,were ignorant,opinionated and extremely rough. It was a far cry from my old town. I’m sure that there are more descent people living in Crawley than there are rough and to those,I will say,good luck. Look after this priceless town

I grew up in Crawley, 1956-75, and absolutely loved. Breaks my heart whenever I visit now. Too much of the Green Belt land surrounding Crawley has been built on and the town centre of my youth has been totally destroyed with ghastly developments.

If you see signs for Crawley keep going. I was born in Crawley, and lived here all my life. It's full of piss and crackheads. All the nice place's like Tilgate use be nice, however the Council don't care about maintenance. The Queens Square was a flip wasted so much money. I'm looking to get out soon.

Home of the mighty #CTFC ! What more do you need to know? Look, it ain't perfect, but there are a lot worse places to live. Lived here 20 years now and happy enough. Brighton 20 mins away, London 50 mins by train. Some decent schools, lovely parks and National Trust places nearby.

This is the comment I was looking for! Looking strongly towards Crawley, myself my wife and daughter, how is the quality of life for commuters/workers in crawley? Is it always this quiet as it is I'm this video? We live in Central London (5 mins away from London Bridge Station) and were just sick of all the people?

@@tonyr9487 It's nothing like London. I used to live in London and wouldn't again. County Mall is a decent shopping place; but the great thing about Crawley, apart from the mighty #CTFC (did I mention them?) is that although it is quite built up and looks a bit bland, you are literally surrounded by countryside and great parks all around. It's generally a peaceful place. I've never had too much trouble.

Yea looks alright, but I've been living here for 17 years since I was born, VERY rough, the college had to go lockdown because gun shots were heard and someone was carrying a knife, smells like piss everywhere you go, they have public toilets which NO ONE goes into for a reason, all the roads have holes in them, see police every time I go to town, not a nice place, building flats everywhere which will probably be hella expensive, better living up north, avoid this place!

Lived in Broadfield, then Furnace Green in 1986, then moved to Horley where I lived until 1994! Living in Buckingham now! Not been back to Crawley since, but as friend is now Crawley Town manager will be returning very soon for a visit!

I bought my first Rollerskates from a sports shop (now Coral) in Crawley... Use to Rollerskate at the weekends in Queens Square and at the Roller disco at the Felbridge Hotel, East Grinstead in the mid 70s. We may have literally bumped into each other 😏

That bandstand used to be in The Square, free jazz performances from time to time. I recall Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen there when I was a kid. Prefer The Cure though

This video looks like it was taken about 5.30 in the morning. There is literally no other people in the memorial gardens - which is usually packed with youths of various ethnic backgrounds hanging around to smoke weed. The town doesnt look too bad when you are up early as the dodgier part of the population are still in bed.

@@earthexplorer579 I know what you mean since I've lived in Canada before. But not all Canadians are bad, you have to get away from very big cities like Vancouver/Toronto. Northern and central British Columbia are clean and fairly decent, though maybe economically a little depressed. You see a similar pattern in the UK, where Londoners don't have a great reputation for friendliness (but London is a great city TBF).

@@xpert0705 Thomas Bennet was ALWAYS crap! I went there between 1966 and 1971 and hated the school and it's tiresome teachers. We had so many knobheads it was hard to find decent people to make friends with (although I did after a while). Crawley USED to be a decent place to live. I was born there in 1954 and lived there until I emigrated around 1983. I've been back a few times but crikey, it looks so damn depressing in this video (no fault of the videographer of course) and nothing in the world would entice me back to it's gloomy way of life.

Nilanjana Taraphder Yes by and large it is - but there are places you should not go as a man or woman in the nighttime and some places I would generally avoid during any time! Basically; -Avoid Bewbush and Broadfield - you never need to go to these two parts of Crawley for any reason. -Avoid Goffs park at night, in fact you should avoid any park at night

Crawley is not a good place to live. No one pays attention. Last month saw two girls litreally crying as they were being obviously stalked and no one was helping in town center also saw two old ladys having panic attacks. Too busy with life to care about others its disgusting
