We have to become better at seeing the relationships between our highly technical movements like snatching and running, and our less technical movements like burpees and planks.
If we cant' or don't identify time/rep reinforced positions, postures, and habits of compensation in our athletes during our conditioning sessions, then we are part of the athletic movement problem. We are teaching and reinforcing positions that do not scale or transfer to higher loads or intensities when we inadvertently create competing positions and patterns between skill development and conditioning.

Solid explanations, do you apply the same thinking to side planks and headstands (forarm/elbows+head tripod base)?

Broke a bone in my wrist recently, used fists and finger tips instead for push ups (but not planks).

Took the bait. But wait! I can burpee from the elbows. It was always an issue for me with a shortened posterior chain, so I've worked on the range of motion, the psoas, front kicks, and it is possible. But point taken. Probably better to just add a box for your planks, and use your fists or finger tips. Thus using palms is the same concept (cheating), no?
