One consideration is packing O2 for pilot above 10,000 feet keeps you more alert. Cool sim for flight. Planning requires arrival with enough fuel to arrive at the alternate. You might getting the book, Proficient Pilot by Barry Schiff. Paper charts are required as iPad or electronic have habit of failure when critical. Then, dead reckoning is required.

Hi guys. I'm an air traffic controller at LA Center / ZLA. If you ever have questions about restricted/MOA's, drop me a line. You'll be flying north of where my airspace ends, but if you ever head down towards PSP one day, I could work your aircraft.

Watching this video, I conclude, Yes owning and flying a plane is cool, but is is definitely not practical and not worth it. That being said if you are passionate and having a plane makes you happy and safe, then finances and practicality comes second to that!

Even with all the new wiz-bang electronic devices for flight planning and flying I still prefer the paper charts, as they give you the "Big picture" as well as the necessary details instead of just the current window of where you are in the moment in a moving map. And like Jesse said no batteries required.

Jess, you’ve been well taught, and would teach well, yourself. I’m an old educator and you’ve taught a cogent, at-level (beginners, ok) lesson. Nicely done, Capt. I imagine Civil Air Patrol could use your particular method of instruction useful to young men and women. My best friend was a CAP member, soloed and got his “wings” at 16. Then flew 16’s in the G-war I. Now a retiring Capt. at a big airline. CAP can make life happen.

It's hard to see waterbombers flying into and out of the smoke and avoid mid-air collisions with them, so the FAA tells other pilots to avoid these areas, hence the term "temporary flight restrictions".

I don't know if you know about "Aviation 101" He goes through the things you talk about. He also has some great vidios. He made a flight from Florida to California with video of much of the flight. air video of the Grand Canyon, and many other things. One of the things I like about his videos is that he is not afraid to point out the things he does wrong! He also went to Alaska and took lessons with float plane, and did a lot of video of things in Alaska! He is a CFII that pushes always learning more!

i forget the regs for altitude and oxygen weather its 12 or 14 thou for have to be on but i do recall a recommendation for use of o2 @10 000 for more than 30 min ..personally with allergies and frequently clogged eustation tubes i prefer under 5000 as the pain is tolerable and dosnt last as long . oxyemia is not supposed to be easy to detect with the further downside of adding to the probability of making poor decisions and imparing reactions. so many factors to choosing a route made even harder with the knowledge you cant pull over @10 000 to retie the tarp over the luggage rack lol but also so much safer because you cant and maintence says it should be mechanically reliable under normal operation. and as always thanks for the video

When planning a drive, you still have to mind weight. Overload a car, and you're asking for trouble. Fuel economy goes out the tailpipe. A crash that might result in a broken bone would instead end far worse. Stopping distance increases. So, if you're planning to laminate your living room floor, don't pick up a living room's worth of laminate all at once, unless your vehicle is designed to handle the load.
