I made these yesterday and used jackfruit a little extra vegan vege and chicken stock- absolutely delicious. Hubby wants me to add curry to next batch. All Jill’s recipes are winners.

I just made this. The pastry is amazing. I didnt have sweet potato so i used the normal kind of potato. Delicious. I love the alternative to gluten. Jill you are incredible THANK YOU

Thanks for your recipes. I am diabetic and its good for me, eating plant based foods. I hope that you can post a plant based crepe and a plant based custard flan (or leche flan in Spanish). I wish that we have plant based salad dressings as well.

I used to love those cheap frozen pot pies. Always burned my mouth with the first bite. It has been a long time since I have made them from scratch. Fun recipe!

Jill, do you suppose you could freeze these pot pies after being cooked and then defrost and reheat in the oven? Just wondering if you have ever done that and If the consistency would be the same. It's just myself and my hubby so It would be a great way to have an extra meal in the freezer for the other two. I can't wait to make these!

Will regular chopped up (firm) tofu work the same as those soy curls...with reduced liquid? Can you use 2 cups of oat flour instead of almond?

Yes, you can use tofu. Just add the spices to the vegetables without the 1 1/2 cup of broth. If you only use oats for the crust it will be a bit tough and kind of bland but it does work.

In Whole Foods plant based (WFPB) diet, oil is not considered a whole food.

Many people do use oil, I certainly do. I think the ones that don't, do it for health reasons.

We cook without refined oil because it is not needed, is not health promoting, and adds extra calories.

You will see oil avoidance amongst health oriented plant based chefs. The primary reason is avoiding unnecessary calories and unnecessary saturated fat. One of the founding fathers of the plant-based approach to health, Dr Caldwell Esselstyn, was adamant that his cardiology patients should have a very low fat diet and strictly no oil. All of the patients in his studies, who complied with his recommended diet survived many years avoiding the open heart surgery with which they would otherwise been treated. So for those patients it was worth the effort! Other health-oriented vegans adopt a “low oil” rather than “no oil” approach for those of us who have not been diagnosed with heart disease. Personally I use a hot air fryer in place of deep fat frying, but when it comes to sauté-ing veg I would allow a little spray on oil to guarantee the non-stickiness of the pan. If I am frying an omelet or crepe I would spray the pan and then wipe it with a piece of kitchen paper.

It added a lot of calories so if you are trying to watch your weight then consider eating less or non. One tbsp of oil is 120 calories. And fat is 9 calories per gram where as protein and carbohydrates are 4 calories per gram. So the oil calories can add up easy and quick. Me? Hope this helps!
