For a "selfie," here’s your list of what you need: 1) Acetone (to clean the area, 2) Sterile disposable scalpel #10 “Medi-Cut by Dynarex” (can be ordered on-line. $7 for 10 blades), 3) 17% over-the-counter Salicylic acid, (e.g., Compound W) is fine, but you can order 40% salicylic acid on-line, 4) NexCare waterproof bandages (these are PERFECT to occlude/protect the area: THE BEST!!), Betadyne or Hibiclens: Over-the-counter to disinfect the area … pre- and post- procedure as needed: once you get to the bloody area. Use it at the finish of the procedure, or if you get the area really bloody. Note: the "freezing" OTC remedy is useless, and I think "fertilizes" the wart! Too small of an area is treated, and not cold enough (not as cold as liquid nitrogen). Procedure: Wipe down/super-clean with acetone (use a disposable towel). Apply Salicylic acid, allow it to dry, and occlude (cover) with NexCare bandage (these are perfectly sized). Once you get a mass (a couple days), cut the entire thing down with either a (new) razor blade, or a sterile #10 scalpel (curved blade is best). After cutting, clean "hard" with acetone (disposable towel) and apply more Salicylic and repeat this EVERY DAY! You may apply the acid twice per day (occlude with a new NexCare). I only use one scalpel for one procedure. Be sure to dispose of the scalpel (or razor blades) as "medical sharps," not in the regular trash. You can collect these implements and dispose of these "medical sharps" at your local hospital (or friendly physician). Hospitals must take these for disposal; no problem. Sadly, you are going to have to remove most of the (thick foot) epidermis right down to the (blood rich) dermis. It's at the junction of the (blood rich) dermis and (bloodless) epidermis where the wart "lives" and get nutrients. (The wart does not grow into the dermis; and thus the body does not recognize the virus and fight it off.) This "cutting" is unpleasant, but just “digging around” will get you nowhere! The virus is not killed by the acid. You have to get it ALL, and that means removing its "home" ... the SKIN itself! Finally, when you get the skin cut-down to the “bloody” layer … you again apply the salicylic acid. Usually, you can get to the dermis without bleeding. If there is some bleeding, just clean it (Hibiclens) and wait for it to coagulate. It might burn, but you have to do it! I do not find doing this unbearable at all ... maybe even pleasant since I know I'm at the end of this filthy mess! You know you are getting success when you see the disgustingly soft “Jello-like” lower wart filled with papilla-like blood vessels (sometimes called petechiae). The wart is "pulling-up" the blood vessels to feed itself (the bastard!). Cut it all off! Just go for it! I’m nearly finished up with my plantar warts (2 of them ... that got fertilized with the "freezing method"). It took me a few weeks to sort this all out; but now I get it! You have to be VERY aggressive because you are dealing with a VIRUS! Note: if you are having problems with the pain of cutting, you can get a topical over-the-counter anesthetic ... or a product such as EMLA or Ela-Max (in some States over-the-counter). Once you get the wart cut down to the lower skin, the anesthetic works extremely well. The topical will not work on intact thick foot epidermis.

Yeah acid doesn’t work on me either. The waters seem to disappear in 2-4 years on their own, but then keep spreading to another area. Argh!

Just soak your feet/foot in about one gallon warm/hot water with about 1/2 cup of household bleach and a squirt of dish soap for aprox 15 to 20 minutes. repeat next day. The wart will disappear with no side effects. trust me it works. Wart should be gone in aprox. one week. I had discovered this by accident, I had a planters wart on thumb and cleaned a large coffee urn at work with bleach, dish soap and hot water. A week later my planters wart on thumb was gone. then later had one on foot did mentioned treatment and gone a week later, no pain or discomfort or hole, just disappears.

I suggest testing for HPV. In most cases the plantar warts, verrucas were caused by the human papillomavirus. In many cases I have seen that the HPV vaccine (example Gedarsil 9 ) have cured plantar warts completely from 2nd dose, especially in young people. For women, girls it have also prevented cervical cancer. Maybe worth quering with doctors before carrying out procedures that can leave scars for life. Good luck everyone

I got rid of the little bastards in about 4- weeks. We have a beautiful community pool in Santa Barbara and, recently, the Recreation Department started allowing HOMELESS to shower with the regular swimmers (including college swim and waterpolo teams). The result was an outbreak of plantar warts. Who knows what other diseases these filthy beasts are unleashing on us? I will post my removal recommendations in the next comment. Good Luck!
