Hey Joey, loving your channel. Just wanted to add some other reasons why people might not be losing weight on a plant based diet. Nuts are very high in calories so it is best to avoid or limit these when losing weight, many condiments such as vegan mayonnaise and sauces (such as cranberry sauce) are high in calories; also need to be careful of calories in juices and smoothies; and snacking on excessive fruits. Joey like you I am almost 56 - my birthday is also in October! I went Vegan 14 years ago (I know you said you went vegetarian 14 years ago). My 5 kids (because of their love for animals) wanted to follow a Vegan diet and after doing some research my husband and I discovered that this was the best diet for all of us. At the time our kids were aged between 4 and 13 years old. At the beginning of this year I started following a Whole Food Plant based - following mostly the Starch Solution guidelines. I have easily lost 12 kg! All the best :)

Just love this question and answer video today I got to learn a lot more about you and especially why you became a vegetarian and then a vegan from eating meat and reading that PETA pamphlet. I like you are definitely an animal lover I think it’s very important that we all help out our local animal shelters. And I definitely agree vegetarians and vegans have plenty of choices for natural protein. Awesome video

So appreciate what you are doing and modeling. There are too few 50+ folks showing how this is possible. I *do* still miss cheese as a transitioning vegetarian. (Have tried the cheese sauce. Growing on me.) Got a lot to learn. Thank you for being an inspiration and being a teacher for me.

J, it took me a while to get off cheese but now there are so many options it just isn't an issue. Lately I have been trying to get off cashew cheese because its full of fat and I am doing this low fat diet, and THAT has been tough. I am having a much tougher time getting off cashew cheese than I was getting off dairy cheese. Crazy huh? Thanks so much for watching.

Plant Based Dads I don’t know whether or not you watch Physician’s Committee. In their yesterday’s livestream they talked about a woman who’s 96 years old and she recently turned vegan and reversed her health issues and is now meds free! Nothing is ever too late. As long as you are alive and breathing, you’re young. Stay blessed.

I have never heard of this but I am going to check it out. That sounds amazing. I personally am not on any meds and my checkups always go really well. All my friends who are meat eaters are all on a regiment of pills and continue to eat what they want because they think the pills are curing the problem instead of trying to control it. So crazy. Change the way you eat and you will change your life. Sometimes you just cant get through to people and they have to learn it themselves.

Hi Skippy. My dad grew up in Park Slope. He spend our whole childhood and years after that saying he was moving to AZ, like it was the old west in a John Wayne movie. He eventually moved here, which is how I got here also. He loves it. I think that when you grow up in Brooklyn, you have this romance with the old west because of what you see on TV. I love the weather here in Phoenix but its not for everyone. Thanks so much for watching.

@@PlantBasedDads That's what I like about your videos, straight to the point. I can't do those long videos especially with too much talking🤷♀️. I'm a New Yorker, we have to move fast,😁. My weight not coming down so I have to come to terms about portion control. I think because it's plants I can eat non stop but nope. I liked that you talked about it. Because most videos talk about plant base but not many say one still has to control portions. I know is common sense but some of us need reminders to stay on track. I watch these videos to stay focus on healthy choices so I don't slip back to the junk food(mind set). Not always easy. Maybe some videos with sample meals on a plate other than potatoes and broccoli? Easy meals to take to work?Peace✌

I can totally relate too having a vegan partner but wearing your weight completely differently. Jamie and I are pretty much the same height and the same weight but we do not wear it the same, at all 🤨 they’re rockin’ my dream physique and I’m over here like, I gained five pounds from that one burger for 7 days before I got back to the weight I was before that burger! Unfair! But, for the most part Jamie is completely compliant to the starch solution, they’re very health focused but mainly to support me achieving my goals. Otherwise they would have ordered in every now and then but they’re holding off in solidarity. So I’ve got that going haha -sorry 😂

@ArtyAntics4 жыл бұрын
Plant Based Dads well I was specifically referring to the example of potatoes and broccoli, which didn’t have chickpeas or legumes in them. I have only watched a couple of your videos so far so maybe I don’t have a fair representation of your meals yet. I am not a nutritionist, I have had chronic pain and fatigue for the last 5years to the point I didn’t get out of bed very often. So I researched alot to regain my health, Just over 2 years ago I went vegan and lost about 20lbs, I ate high starch but my weight loss plateaued for a year and I didn’t know why and my muscles had wasted from years in bed. Recently I found Nutritionfacts and downloaded Dr Gregors daily dozen app. He and his team peer review hundreds of studies and condense all of that info into a daily dozen checklist. That’s where I got the portions from. Since following that I’ve started to loose weight again and I’m more mobile, I can now walk about a mile a day when before I struggled to get to the bathroom. If you like the starch solution you could totally keep doing it but have 1/4 of the plate is protein as legumes are starchy and then the other 1/4 whole grains then keep the 1/2 non starchy. I made this change a month ago and I’ve now lost 35lbs. Protein is so important because all of our vital organs are muscles! As a lot of my pain is muscular I also swapped my main grain to quinoa as it’s the highest protein grain that I know of. The other thing I was concerned about is lack of fats, we need fats to absorb the most nutrients from our foods. I don’t do oils as they are calorie dense and seed oils are toxic to the body, whole food fats are the best. I choose nuts as they also give me the protein I need for my health issues but avocados are good too. One other fat I always take is 1tbsp of flaxseed every day to ensure my omega 3 to omega 6 ratio is healthy (should be 1:4 to avoid high homocysteine levels which can cause heart attacks) flaxseed plus no oil is how I personally manage mine as my dad died aged 50 of a heart attack. If you get the app it has links to all the info to explain why but if you want sources for the things I’ve said just let me know and I will try to find them again.
@PlantBasedDads4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, you just sounded like one more person who is a meat eater worried about vegans and protein while they dont pay any attention to their own fiber or gut microbiome. I see now that is not the case with you. Yes, I follow Dr. Gregor also. If you go back and watch the What I Eat In A Day videos, you will see that I am eating plenty of meals with protein. I have beans every day. Chickpeas, pinto beans, lentils, etc. I get enough protein from all of that plus whatever is in the potatoes and veggies. I also run about 3 miles a day. Yes we do need healthy fats, but I have over eaten cashews, avocado all that for years now. So much that I gained 50lbs from it. The Starch Solution limits those fats and for a very good reason. While people take it too far and start doing zero fat, that is not what I am doing. I still have fats daily usually from flax seeds in smoothies and cashew based foods I make here like cashew cheese. But I have to keep it to a minimum or the extra weight will never come off. I personally don't have the digestion issues that you are describing, although I have heard of others dealing with that. That sounds frustrating. Thanks so much for responding with all that. It gives me a much better idea of who you are and where you are coming from.
