I think anywhere from Sydney to Brisbane is a humid subtropical climate,since I live near Newcastle,they class my area as that & the U.S. plant hardiness zone says it's 10 on the map but on more of an interactive map it says I'm living in between a 10b-11a zone. Darwin is zone 11 for example,so it's interesting to see what grows in my area where most people wouldn't plant that more tropical stuff !

You can plant a few Pampas grass in 3 gallon pots and place them around the Papaya during Winter.

Just a thought, since they seem to die every winter, maybe planting alongside a sacrificial nitrogen fixing species like Tagasaste or Acacia will help to provide protection in winter as well as lots of fertilizer to keep it happy, or a thick amount of straw mulch even.

It seems that I'm trying the same thing every year, but each time I've made small adjustments. Thanks for the tips!

Are these papaya trees fruiting now? Where would you get those trees? Thanks Mate!

@@RealLifeFruitopia Thanks for your prompt reply, we live in werribee and just wondering if we could grow some papaya trees in our backyard but as you said that, they wouldn't be fruiting and hard to survive so we may not be wasting our time on it. Thanks again for the advise.

when i watch videos from tropical places growing papay i noticed it was plain soil, no mulch to be seen, and on hills of soil, i just presumed this was unsustainable single crop commercial farming but its possible it might be neccesary but now i just remembered the people in florida growing them in pots of compost lol even tho the plants were falling over in the pots and leaning sideways and the pots were falling ocver cause compost is 2 light weight to be a good ancor

havnt been able to keep up with my subscriptions but had to watch this one haha i have papaya from seed experiment going in all different soils and i swear they pretty much all just started dying, at this point im thinking they need moving air at all times cause ive tried everything, got 1 near a foot high but got lucky somehow there lol id say they just hate water but even the ones in peat pellets that dry right out its the same deal

Hi, I really love your fruit garden.. 👌 I just have started gardening.. your garden videos inspired me a lot.. Thank you 😊 May I know where can I buy white guava tree & Panama berry here in Melbourne?
@RealLifeFruitopia
@RealLifeFruitopia 3 жыл бұрын
Wonderful to hear! You can but White Guava at many nurseries around Melbourne, sometimes from Bunnings also. Panama Berry is very cold sensitive, you can buy from Daleys nursery online.

Just came across your video. I have just managed to get some seedlings from seed. It is now march 2022, and I intend to plant out now. I think I will have to protect them for the next 6 months, or so with a small house, to keep out the cold. I will follow your progress to see your outcome. I am in Rowville (3178), regards.

Definitely grow in a greenhouse, they won't survive in the ground over winter.
