On today's episode of Wild Kingdom by Mutual of Omaha... The first brave butterfly emerges from its chrysalis seeking the nectar of spring blooms, unaware of the danger it faces. Felis silvestris catus, in his natural habitat, lies in wait... ready to strike, with its superior agility! 😂😂😂 You built it, and they have definitely come, Laura! 😂 I absolutely LOVE how the moss looks against the helllebores! Do you mind if I ask when your last frost date is and when you start planting cool crops if you do a spring garden? I am trying to figure out some stuff like peas and brassicas but the going advice of 60 days before has failed so far and I think it is possibly because the channels are further south and winter is just different. We aren't in blizzard conditions right now, but it has snowed a bit 3 days this week.
@hannahzachmann
@hannahzachmann 2 ай бұрын
@@GoingGreenMom my average last frost date is may 22. Every year is so different! I did winter sowing last year and put them out when I planted the rest of the garden (usually the 2nd to last week in may) so they had a head start and my cool crops did really good!

I know this is a gardening channel but I have a feeling that most everyone watching would LOVE to see your home being remodeled. You might even get an entire new audience of people that enjoy home remodeling videos! Btw I’m sure you don’t need my input or anyone else’s for that matter but I thought I’d join in on the fun!😊

I love Blue Star Creeper! When I moved into my home 7 years ago the front yard was a wasteland of mole hills. I tried to drive them away with various home remedies, not wanting to use poisons or traps as I had lots of neighborhood cats. I finally gave up, took the whole yard out & planted Blue Star Creeper to replace the yard, adding some each spring. It is so beautiful with it's tiny blooms. I walk on it frequently too & it never fazes it. I live in SW Oregon, the summers now & then get pretty hot & at first I lost some, when it gets into the 90s F I water it every day. There is also a dark blue creeper & a white so I've worked some of those in too. It also doesn't get high enough to give cover to snakes which was important to me.

Heads up! I love watching and learning from you. Ive noticed the sped up sections of some videos seem to be sped up even more recently and may not be as teachable for newer viewers. I understand the need to get through the repetitive parts and it’s ok, but now it may be at the expense of learning for some less experienced, wannabe gardeners. For one example, I knew Biotone was being spread but a new viewer may not have, and I know your desire is to keep us loyal viewers inspired as well as gain others through instruction. I often recommend your channel to others and I just don’t want the speeded up sections to be so fast that they don’t serve your purpose of also being instructive. If I’m feeling this way, there may be others and I only want the best for you and your viewers. Maybe take it down a notch to the prior speed. I appreciate you all. Continued blessings…

I've noticed myself recently that the sped-up parts have gotten SUPER sped up and have wished they'd slow them down JUST A TAD so I can see Laura actually do what she's just explained she's going to do so I can learn. Of course we all love their channel and appreciate everything they do! Peace to all!

Our lows are in the 20’s for a few nights this week with highs in the low forties. Had some snow flurries yesterday, at least no snow on the ground. We do have big buds on most of the blooming trees, hoping the freezing temperatures at night don’t kill the buds. The trees are too big to cover the buds. Next week looks better with highs in the 50’s and lows in the 30’s and 40’s. I live in Northern Indiana. Looking forward too warmer temperatures. Thanks for sharing Laura. I’ve been slowly adding ground covers in my garden too. I look forward to watching you work in the garden, while I have to wait a little while longer.

Question! Speaking of irrigation, I would love to see you plant more areas without drip - would you consider designing an area with more heat-tolerant plants and shrubs somewhere on your newer property? Maybe using natives or close relatives of native plants that you don’t have to supplement water? I think that would be such a fun experiment to see what thrives in your specific area! I am always interested in seeing the differences in climate, ecology, and geology in new places, and how that changes which plants thrive 😊

Laura, if you want more of the lungwort and you can't find them, how about dividing the ones you have? It's not ideal, but it is a solution.

My Mother used to call lungwort ‘boy and girl’ because they had both pink and blue blossoms at the same time! I have a leather leaf type of lungwort that seems to want to just take over. It seeds itself and I have given many ‘babies’ away. Need to investigate that auger ! 😊

thank you for the great ideas for groundcover....i was struggling for some great groundcover ideas and these look fun + fantastic! Ashamed to say but separating one plant into 4 was something I had never even considered or known was doable until this! ☀☀☀☀☀☀

I can not wait to get out into the garden, Its in the 30's f here today. I am having foot surgery in a few weeks so I won't have much of a gardening season either. Ugh, Vermont needs to get its act together and warm up soon. I got so much to do!

* Let's find Douglas a new home. Being Attacked in your own yard...is not funny. > There are many.... of your subscribers that would give him a new home. (Please reach out to Laura to re-home Douglas) I can't imagine going out into my yard to garden and never knowing when you (or the kids or your other cats) will be Attacked by a stray cat. He will also be better off....as a 'Only' cat. (A home With no children)
