I love Blue Star Creeper! When I moved into my home 7 years ago the front yard was a wasteland of mole hills. I tried to drive them away with various home remedies, not wanting to use poisons or traps as I had lots of neighborhood cats. I finally gave up, took the whole yard out & planted Blue Star Creeper to replace the yard, adding some each spring. It is so beautiful with it's tiny blooms. I walk on it frequently too & it never fazes it. I live in SW Oregon, the summers now & then get pretty hot & at first I lost some, when it gets into the 90s F I water it every day. There is also a dark blue creeper & a white so I've worked some of those in too. It also doesn't get high enough to give cover to snakes which was important to me.

Do you mind if I ask when your last frost date is and when you start planting cool crops if you do a spring garden? I am trying to figure out some stuff like peas and brassicas but the going advice of 60 days before has failed so far and I think it is possibly because the channels are further south and winter is just different. We aren't in blizzard conditions right now, but it has snowed a bit 3 days this week.
@hannahzachmann10 ай бұрын
@@GoingGreenMom my average last frost date is may 22. Every year is so different! I did winter sowing last year and put them out when I planted the rest of the garden (usually the 2nd to last week in may) so they had a head start and my cool crops did really good!

Our lows are in the 20’s for a few nights this week with highs in the low forties. Had some snow flurries yesterday, at least no snow on the ground. We do have big buds on most of the blooming trees, hoping the freezing temperatures at night don’t kill the buds. The trees are too big to cover the buds. Next week looks better with highs in the 50’s and lows in the 30’s and 40’s. I live in Northern Indiana. Looking forward too warmer temperatures. Thanks for sharing Laura. Heads up! I love watching and learning from you. Ive noticed the sped up sections of some videos seem to be sped up even more recently and may not be as teachable for newer viewers. I understand the need to get through the repetitive parts and it’s ok, but now it may be at the expense of learning for some less experienced, wannabe gardeners. For one example, I knew Biotone was being spread but a new viewer may not have, and I know your desire is to keep us loyal viewers inspired as well as gain others through instruction. I often recommend your channel to others and I just don’t want the speeded up sections to be so fast that they don’t serve your purpose of also being instructive. If I’m feeling this way, there may be others and I only want the best for you and your viewers. Maybe take it down a notch to the prior speed. I appreciate you all. Continued blessings…

Question! Speaking of irrigation, I would love to see you plant more areas without drip - would you consider designing an area with more heat-tolerant plants and shrubs somewhere on your newer property? Maybe using natives or close relatives of native plants that you don’t have to supplement water? I think that would be such a fun experiment to see what thrives in your specific area! I am always interested in seeing the differences in climate, ecology, and geology in new places, and how that changes which plants thrive 😊
