Planting Caladium Bulbs - Let's get a head start :)

Caladiums are a wonderful plant to grow in a part shade area. The coloured leaves really add a lot of interest to the garden. Starting them a little early indoors in the spring gives them that jump start they need to really knock everything out of the park :)
They grow well in containers as well as directly in the garden.

Did they end up sprouting ? Need an update video please. How often do you water ?

They did sprout... they would have been shown in the garden tour videos around that time. as for watering... while waiting for them to sprout... you want to let the soil dry out almost completely between waterings. this reduce the chance of rot... once they start to produce leaves you can keep them evenly moist (not soggy)

An all purpose potting soil with added perlite works well for me... maybe 2 parts soil to 1 part perlite... they like a free draining soil that's evenly moist but not soggy

I planted elephant ears in my garden in socket pots, I had planted them before but didnt know you had to dig them for the winter so....they be dead lol But always can replant

OH NO! lol... it happens :) maybe you'll be lucky and they survived. I hear a few peoples stories of them coming back year after year in our climate.

+JamCanGurl when growing them indoors they might want to go dormant but it might not be once a year... it might be every other year... you will notice the growth slow and the leaves will start yellowing... when you see this slow then stop watering ... you don't want to rot the bulbs... after a month or 3 rest you can started giving it some water again... just be sure not to overwater in the beginning.

if they are in the ground year round... they will go dormant when they are ready. either a frost will force them dormant... or prolonged dry periods

They were really puny bulbs! I've been ordering from caladium growers in FL for years & have never received any that small. I strongly suggest you go to those growers & get the large bulbs as they will florish faster & better- I know bc 1 year, I got order in late & couldn't order the largest size- they were so very slow to be seen above the ground, it was frustrating. Avoid such packaged bulbs in my suggestion. Our faves in red are Postman Joyner & Candidum or White Christmas for green veins & white otherwise & they're ok in any sun situation.
