In fairness the end result didn't look too bad. Ive had mixed results with plasterers and it's a minefield trying to get a decent one that doesn't want trip you off. One even walked off the job as he had underestimated the work and wanted paid half the cost. Had to get someone in to finish it

I always leave pva to dry completely. Usually do a pissy coat then a 50/50 or neat coat. Have switched to sbr now
@Happytruth
@Happytruth Жыл бұрын
SBR doesn’t emulsify so if it dry it won’t be tacky when you apply the skim, ripples as it slides on the surface, PVA grabs and doesn’t slide around IMO SBR has its uses but it’s not as good as PVA.
@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot
@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot Жыл бұрын
@@Happytruth I’ve literally never had finish ripple on sbr. I have however had it slide around in big patches over pva that was tacky. If the client provides pva I’ll use it but when I’m providing materials I always use sbr

SBR all day.. might be more expensive than PVA.. SBR never had a problem with holds back brilliant whatever the bsckground and drys within 20 mins.. the problem with pva is you could be waiting all morning to dry out 1 coat on high suction is never enough so you have lost your morning. Again pva iif you start your hit and its tacky your plaster is gonna take longer to go off or to tacky your gear can end up not taking sliding around. Fucking agg. Sbr is the governor your never go back to pva. Made my life alot easy the change. Fuck pva. Regards

Hi sam, I never start my plaster in the top left corner, I start bottom left and spread up the wall,

Why ?
@paulgodwin85
@paulgodwin85 Жыл бұрын
I would say practice and speed, being tall, helps as well. I was never taught to start in the top corner, but I have tried just to test the difference, I find it slower, and you don't get the feel of the wall you are plastering.

I hear what your saying but there are standards and procedures and also guide lines especially if you want to make the top 1%, some choose to stay average and earn enough to buy food beer n pay rent others have ambitions to do more and have pride in what they do.

@@dampsam Ive got quote for 2 3 x 3 rooms next to each other.. Quote came in at £1850 for 2 days work. Needless to say I didn't bother. Some trades are pricing themselves out the market.
@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot
@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot Жыл бұрын
@@cabottaxi Jesus Christ. Fit me that would be 3/4 days max depending on prep. 1 day prep for example, then couple of days plastering (I don’t kill myself doing whole rooms in a hit). So let’s say 4 days max that’s £1000 labour plus materials so 1200 all in max
@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot
@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot Жыл бұрын
Even that may be a lot for some, but I prep properly, if there’s movement between the wall and skirting or architraves for example, I dig it out and foam so it doesn’t come back, same with cills or it it’s a plasterboard ceiling with hard walls, they usually crack because if movement so I always foam around the edge to prevent that. Ott for most but I do things properly

At end of day all us spreads are trying to achieve same thing, good work and earn money before our bodies give up. This guy seems to slate every other plasterer yet watch his videos, he slates the size of this guys hawk.... yes mate you got huge hawk but then you proceed to put 2 small scoops on it at a time, what's point in having huge hawk? He goes on about cleanliness, yet goes into customers houses damp proofing and theres not 1 dust sheet in site!!!! Even concrete floors or floorboards, its someones house!!! Then hes floating walls and not 1 rule or straight edge in site!!!! Could you not fit them on your horse? Rather than slate every other spread just concentrate on being best you can be....

@@dampsam you wont be seeing videos my end, havent got the time or energy.... or the faintest idea how to edit etc. But, was just stating that we all go to work for same reason, yes there are some that have, it seems, no standards I get that. But to criticise a young lad who's grafting to better himself.... I once worked with guy doing screeding, theres me all nice kit, lazers, rules etc.... he had 3 bits of old skirting...... that old boy put me to shame effortlessly, and was best floor I'd ever seen. Tradesmen can be so judgemental and bitchy, why not encourage or help others especially young lads to become better spreads, not slate them.

It’s a good point but if someone has no respect for his tools you find they generally have none for keeping the work space clean and customers will not like that

When you say no respect for tools because hes got a bit of build up, in one of your videos you show what trowels you use and you then literally drop your marshall town trowel on floor to crack on. If my lad done that to my trowel he be gone, another example of pot kettle black.... again.
