Plasti Dip is a blessing and a curse; easy to change the color of your wheels, but often difficult to peel off. In this video I test 9 different products to see which ones are the best at easily removing the plasti dip that has been on this wheel for over 2 years.
The products include:
Brake Cleaner: amzn.to/3rZCqoI
PB Blaster: amzn.to/38EtBt1
Goo Gone: amzn.to/3cwO581
Paint Thinner: amzn.to/3bLAPx8
Rubbing Alcohol: amzn.to/3vnOfHB
Goof Off: amzn.to/3vnJoWK
Wax & Grease Remover: amzn.to/3cnZk2w
a new coat of Custom Wrap: amzn.to/3cubRlb
and good old gasoline.
I also try pressure washing.
If you know of a product that works well, please post it below!

i bought this because you recommended it... dude did you read the label? it contains lye, caustic lye, it will melt rubber. this stuff cannot go anywhere near car tires, youre going to get someone killed. i would delete this comment before you get sued because someone put caustic lye on their tires, which caused them to fail and they crash their car and now you are at fault for recommending people follow your example....

How easy it is to peel is not based on how long it stays on but how thin or thick it's sprayed on. Yes, time and weather can effect things like the elasticity he mentions but if you spray it on thick enough, thick as it is recommended on dipyourcars YT channel, then it will peel off fine even years later. I kept mine on my Q50 for several years before I peeled it off. The places that came off in small pieces were the places that I sprayed thin like under the rocker panels where it was difficult to hit with the sprayer. Everywhere else came off in big sheets. If you think you can cheap out and only spray 2 gallons because technically it covers the whole car then you'll be paying for it later when you have small pieces chipping off and it's a PITA to peel. That's when you have people online complaining how awful the product is. That's how you know that person can't follow instructions and likely did an awful job.

@@lucasp9553 I can't remember the exact brand, but I first bought a small bottle from Walmart for like $5. I poured some on the hood first and let it sit for a minute or so, then I started rubbing it with a microfiber pad until I saw it breaking. Then I whipped out the pressure washer and got to work. Also, I got a lot of mineral spirits when I found out it worked for me. I actually poured it in one of the foam car wash sprayers and covered the car.

Of course some of them weren't letting it peel completely, it only affects where you're applying it. If you would have sprayed the brake clean on liberally and over a larger area it would have come off way easier.

Ive tried Acrysol, thinner, brake spray and decal remover. Acrysol works but you have to get it off befor the chemical gets dry. Thinner doesnt work that good on layers. It only works for little missed thin areas. Brake spray sort of works. You nust have to wipe it within second because it evaporates and dries. Decal remover worked the best for me. Sprayed it on and it melted into a nasty goo and i just washed it off. Im guessing its probably the same as googone?

@6thGearGarage
@6thGearGarage 5 жыл бұрын
I would probably try soaking it in gas first, then setting it on fire. Kidding but you have a lot of work to do for a whole car. Really I would only try that goo gone in a small area first. I found it just made the plasti dip too gooey. If you find the power washer isn't strong enough to spray it off, you'll have to end up wiping it off with towels and that smears into every little crack and space in the trim if you're not careful. If the small area sprays off, then I'd do the whole car.

Take them to the car wash, coat them in either the thinner you mentioned or dip dissolver, wait 10 minutes or so for them to soak. Spray down with the pressure washer at the car wash. You'll prob still have a few bits you'll want to scrub off with a microfiber towel, but it'll be much, much easier than if you hadn't used a dissolver at all

What worked for me was paint thinner, sprayed my rims with it. PlastiDip will start to melt down, I didn't had a pressure washer but it wasn't needed, took a toothbrush and a normal hose and it peeled off easily. It did a mess on the floor though, all that melted PlastiDip was gross but it was flushed with no issues with water.
@KingTen91
@KingTen91 3 жыл бұрын
@@LOV2XRL8RL nice. That's why I suggest the car wash so you can use their pressure hose and just leave the mess there, which most of it gets so dissolved and diluted it's not an issue anyway. But glad you found something that worked for you

Do people not understand how a dissolver works? It doesn't just make the material disappear, it changes the structure of it. They're supposed to be used on thin surfaces. When you have a thick surface it will still dissolve it but it's so thick it's just more of a mess. You have to use your brain and deductive reasoning to figure out when you should do what.

This was a bit infuriating to watch. From what I've seen you're supposed to pressure wash almost immediately after soaking. Once the dip gets mushy and is able to come off with a little finger pressure it is time to pressure wash it off. Brake cleaner can work, but you need to keep it wet for a solid minute or so and that means using a ton of the stuff. From what I can tell from your video half these products would work well with a soak+power wash. I don't think any product exists that will make old dip easily peelable again.
