Plasticity 1.3 is coming out in a few weeks. There will be a bunch of exciting features, including the Blender bridge.
With Plasticity 1.3 the price of the Indie license will increase from $99 to $150. This will help make Plasticity more sustainable as a business. In addition, the Indie license will include 12 months of free updates, rather than be limited to 1.x updates as it is today. If you want to get the lowest price possible, you still have a couple weeks to buy Plasticity at $99. If you want the 12 months of free upgrades, wait to buy Plasticity at $150 when version 1.3 comes out, which will be in early October.

I am actually really satisfied with you changing the pricing model. I definitely wanted those 12 month of Updates and that was the only thing holding me back from buying in (I was mindblown by my 30 day free trial). 150€ seems to be such a fair price for a piece of software that just works, no troubles, beautiful and easy to learn Interface and functions. I might have to get a part time job in between my school but that would totally be worth it.

speaking of the pricing,I think its totally fair, its worth 150 dollars or even more anyways! Speaking of the funcionalities added, this is amazing! Plasticity is the perfect app for those who: 1: study alias in university/ on their own and need another app to escape the 5000 dollars a year problem. (by having 98% of what alias offers) 2: are starting 3d modeling, and they either buy shapr 3d or plasticity ( shapr3d having 40% of the features of plasticity and costing way more) 3: need to do precise and scaled models (like architecture) and need an app that can let you double check for measures. (I personally just completed an internship with an erchitecture studio where I made complicated models using plasticity. Went as smooth as oil) this app will be a pillar of future 3d modeling softwares. I always try to promote it to whoever asks me about 3d modeling.

Plasticity is so interesting and fun to build with. Nick is an amazing developer and deserves our support! This software is worth that and so much more = The product is fantastic and evolving at such a rapid and impressive rate. I have been so upset by shady Unity changes and Zbrush getting vandalized by Maxon and corporate greed ruining creative, healthy ecosystems. I spent close to $1,000USD for a copy of Zbrush in 2021 and now it is locked and deactivated unless I update - lame ...And now he makes a blender bridge? - Dood! Nick - you are killing it!! Bravo!!! Independent software like Plasticity give me hope and I am thankful there are people like Nick who so passionately is building something that is so powerful and fun to use!. Thanks Nick!

What do you mean locked and deactivated? You should still have access to your perpetual license if you bought one. I don't like what Maxon is doing with ZBrush, but ZBrush's old business model was also highly unsustainable. I bought ZBrush for 700$ and had free upgrades year after year with significant, innovative updates - this is not sustainable software development.

Not sure if you're just a random troll coming here to stir the pot, because if you have genuinely been using the program and using it since its early builds, you would have seen that this program is pretty solid 95% of the time. I have had fewer problems with this program than ones that cost hundreds in subscription. Any bugs or faults it might have had I have personally brought forward to Nick on the Discord, and he would have them fixed within the week. I agree with most that raising the price to $150 is not significant, the more you give people an unprecedented chance to buy at the old price, But please, a huge request, make a proper measure system and additional units setup, so that users can make at least some drawings and see all the necessary dimensions in front of their eyes. It seems to me that against the background of the huge amount of work that has already been done - this is a small thing, but a lot of people will appreciate it, and this is something that people will be willing to pay $50 without hesitation

Love the idea of $150 for 12 months of both minor and major updates, seems like a great alternative to subscription models that I hadn't considered before. Even better than a per version perpetual license imo. It's like the best of both worlds with both the ongoing updates you get with subscription services and the ability to use the last software version you update to in perpetuity. Gives you the freedom to hold on to your current version if you wish or go for another 12 months in case a major update that you want rolls around.

@Workbenchtv
@Workbenchtv Жыл бұрын
@@blendersarelikevegansI'm not an idiot. I'm sure it does phone home, what I meant is the sort that some software companies have done that it does so even while you're rendering and you come back to failed renders or that even when you're online you get logged out while you're working. Second, a subscription is a specific thing in which you have a software for a time period and after that you lose access completely. That's not what he's doing, as you keep that copy when it's done. It's basically a traditional perpetual license. Third, I'm sure he's going to develop new things to keep people re-investing. That's kind of the point. But at 8:32 he said you get 12 months with Indie, the same as studio, regardless of minor/major version. That's one of the big changes for the extra $60. He said the "Version 1.x updates included" policy from before didn't make sense. No one is pretending, unless you're trying to say that what Nick is doing is equivalent to any of the larger companies because it's not and you're mistaken about what he even said in this video.
@TAH1712
@TAH1712 Жыл бұрын
@@blendersarelikevegans Any work by anyone usually costs, especially if you have to pay wages out. I wonder how many of the early adopters will go to ver 2. I think a third or more will immediately pay again, 1/3 will wait a little time ( perhaps upto a year) and a 1/3 ( but hopefully less for Plasticity's sake) will stick at v1.4 - however, perhaps 2 ~3 x will now buy it as it's clearly getting developed fast and so the revenues grow... Any business must distance themselves from users that only want free or next to free unless there's some other payback and development funding model. As long as there's demonstrable evolution, you have to pay for the best if you have high standards or are in a professional role. I can see the price staying 150 usd for the next 2 years based on an increasing active user base, moving then to 200 usd - still incredibly cheap. I used to pay over 1500 usd per annum for software support and updates over twenty years ago now - go off support and to get the latest, you had to pay all the back maintenance up! Thankfully it's different now.

You should consider keeping the price at $99 (or possibly lowering it) while offering a perpetual license for version 1.0. Then, when version 2.0 is available, you can charge a fee, for example $30, to upgrade from the 1.0 perpetual license to 2.0 perpetual license. In addition, you can set up a $5/month subscription plan to provide access to minor updates. For example, one person might purchase a $99 perpetual license for version 1.0, which allows him or her to use the software indefinitely, but without receiving further updates. Another person could also purchase the 1.0 license for $99, but the following year, choose to pay for the 2.0 license upgrade to gain access to the new features, but without the futur minor updates. Another option is to purchase the 1.0 license and subscribe to monthly minor updates. When version 2.0 is released, the user must purchase the upgrade license to continue using the new features, as his subscription would end, returning his version to the perpetual 1.0 license.

If any company offers to buy you out, turn them down. I understand the need for a price increase, and support it, i'm glad it's not too steep, i've been holding off on purchasing the indie license (been waiting for the 1.3 release), but now i know that is coming, i'll pick it up soon. Sadly my skills with blender are less than good (i mainly use maya indie, which i may drop soon), but if i do most of my modeling in plasticity, it shouldn't really be an issue unless i'm doing something organic (unless you plan to add metaballs to plasticity at some point, they're already in blender). The only real issue i have with blender as a maya user is editing the pivot of an object, in maya, all you have to do is hit the D key, move the pivot, and hit the D key a second time, in blender, it's a bit more involved.

It had me thinking to one of the first modeling packages I ever learned, Hash Inc’s Animation Master program where you used a spline based patch modeler. I’ve always wondered why surfacing couldn’t be that simple like that very old program I learned so long ago. Plasticity for me has been beyond useful, and even though I'm on a tight budget I would gladly purchase a major version for $150. If this is the cost of keeping your project independent and not "corrupted" by big companies than I'm willing to pay the price for that. Thank you for making this!

I Dont mind the price increase but for us who bought it earlier can there be an option just to pay the difference (rather than the full amount)? I got the indie license in June, and it just feels a little soon to pay another $150.

The blender addon is open source, MIT license, and I've tried to write it in a style that would be easy to port to another program. But someone else will have to do the work.

Love what coming (especially Blender Bridge), you know Shapr3D is paying for ads to appear on this vide? They also have a permanent ad under the video too. Not sure if this is on purpose or they are targeting anything with a "cad" or "3d" tag.

So if we own Plasticity currently (at $99), we will get 1.3, correct? Will there be an upgrade price if we already paid $99 when it came out? Either way it's a great price, I just wanted to be clear... thanks for all you have done!

Totally support the pricing for this feature set. Just tried it out for the first time and must say I'm a bit disappointed regarding its performance. Laggy response time on Macbook M1 (and what's with the "rubber band orbit"?). Shapr3D is much faster, but lacks some of the nice features you have. Also, curve tool is almost unusable, I think most people expect quad curves. Will follow and hope to purchase when basics are more optimized.

I agree that $99 is a bargain. I'm in the first week of my demo but I'm already convinced that Plasticity is a game changer for my hard surface modeling workflow. I will try to wait until after the price hike to purchase my individual license. edit: The blender bridge is a big deal to me.

150 USD still very, very low...totally agree about the pace of features etc. Asking for more money always is difficult but in this case I think everyone seeing the development has been expecting it. So if buying now before the increase, you get 1.3 and maybe a very minor 1.4, but that's it. Doesn't it make a lot more sense to wait until 1.3 is released for 1 year minimum upgrades... How software products are purchased and then latterly updated appears not a very straightforward buying or selling situation - value for money is the key.

$50 more for the Indie version is no big deal Nick. You are one man (soon to be another, yay!) pouring his heart and soul into this. You have always shown yourself as being a down-to-earth, honest, passionate person when it comes to realistic pricing and allowing people to have access to your work. You and your team's labor value should be recognized and those that can't be mature enough to see that aren't going to support you in the first place. In a year alone, you have written a program to a level of capability that the entire industry of trillions of dollars has still failed to produce. Was about to buy the Indie version at the current price, but will certainly wait for the 1.3 release, and gladly pay the $150 if it means long-term confidence in the company :)

please don't remove the perpetual license, it's for the people that are just hobbyist and love the program like me. It's ok to do a subscription base . but IMO I love owning the software. I never imagine the software that I'm dreaming of will come true a very simple yet powerful. my imagination doing modelling fast and easy. I've been learning some 3d software but for some reason I aways hard for me unlike plasticity I enjoyed just purely design to your hearts content. Thanks bro!!!!.

hello nick, thank you for the update, is it possible in the future that you'll be adding things like maintenance extension periods that people with licenses can buy? I got my indie license a month or 2 back and I wonder if in the future I'll be able to buy extensions so I can get the feature that improves my workflow without having to buy a second license, so I've been having a blast using the software and it's my first ever nurbs experience yet it came so naturally, thank you for the amazing software and thoughtful design, cheers ✨
